How the fuck does Suzuki look better than Sakuraba? Saku looks like he should be in a wheelchair next to Takayama.
Anonymous No.18747737 [Report]
>>18747502
Sakuraba stuck around MMA too long. He tried to block some heavy shots with his face a few too many times. Suzuki was in mostly worked shoots, but for the sake of argument, we'll pretend Pancrase was legit... even then he bowed out while he was still in fairly decent shape. Suzuki is going to be like Fujiwara... just sticking around the wrestling biz decades past most other guys.

to add more context to this, now that the show is done (was pretty nice, hirata is dodging everyone who are trying to challenge him kek) seems like before joining DDT Iino rejected a offer to join a team to pursue wrestling so I'm glad that he managed to do this right now.
During the short Q&A they also said DDT welcomed this opportunity also thinking in the possibility to scout players.

>Former NJPW stars Tetsuya Naito (43) and BUSHI (42) have been announced to appear for Germany’s wXw on September 27 (Japan time 28).

>Naito and BUSHI, who left NJPW this past May, have restarted as “Los Tranquilos de Japon.” They made their return in July, wrestling twice for Revolution Pro Wrestling in the UK.

>However, since then their activities have been hampered, such as scheduled US matches being canceled due to visa issues. In an interview on August 30, Naito revealed, “Due to various circumstances, it’s recently become clear that obtaining a US visa within this year will be difficult. Until now I’d been considering things in conjunction with my US plans, but for the rest of this year I expect to prioritize offers from Europe.”

>And now, wXw officially announced on its X account that the two would appear at its September 27 Oberhausen event. “Naito is one of the most influential wrestlers of the modern era. At his side is his longtime tag partner, BUSHI,” the promotion introduced.

>In response, Naito also posted on X: “September 27, Germany. And more will be added.” He hinted that more appearances are on the way.

Very tragic. Feel sorry for the family and fans.
But when read they mentioned police and touring bus I thought the accident happened during working hours. AFAIK before today it was only said that it was a bus, not a touring bus.
So I went to check on 5ch and they are saying the same thing, even pointing out that the first announcement was him being absent for an "injury"

I didn't think about that because Anzai could had been MIA for different reasons, but a bunch of anons in the ズンドコプロレス thread said the same
But if was their own bus it would be pretty bad, if happened here things would get really really bad for the company but Japan is weird when it's about this kind of things

A lot of people in comments on the articles being written about this are calling out AJPW for not being honest and hiding details. I don't think they're just gonna be able to move on from this without issue
Anonymous No.18763317 [Report]
>>18763290
I mean, this is not about being a schizo.
But the guy was a rookie, no? (don't follow AJPW sorry) so he probably got injured while unloading the touring bus or else, they called it "injury" saying he would be absent but things were way worse than they imaged and rushed him to the hospital.
The fact the police got involved for "further investigation" it means it wasn't just an accident.
And assuming Nago wasn't alone before the accident they might have witnesses.

>On the 7th, AJPW announced the passing of wrestler Nagao Taishin. He was 21 years old.

>Nagao was rushed to a hospital in Kanagawa Prefecture on May 31 after suffering traumatic shock from abdominal compression in an accident involving a touring bus. Despite receiving intensive care, he passed away on this day. Funeral and memorial service arrangements have not yet been decided.

>On May 31, AJPW announced Nagao would miss the 6/1 Sendai show due to “injury.”

>Later, on 6/7, the promotion revealed that “on May 31 he was involved in contact with a bus, was immediately transported to the hospital, and is currently receiving treatment.”

>On the 21st, they clarified that the bus was in fact a “touring bus,” and stated, “Due to traumatic shock from abdominal compression caused by the accident, he is currently receiving treatment in the intensive care unit under critical circumstances.”

>Today, AJPW stated regarding the cause of death: “We have entrusted the body to the police for investigation, and we will report once details are known.” They continued, “This sudden incident has caused great concern and inconvenience to everyone involved, and we deeply apologize. At the same time, we express our gratitude for all the support and encouragement Nagao Taishin has received, and humbly notify you of his passing. We deeply pray for the repose of Nagao Taishin’s soul. Future matters will be announced in consultation with his parents.”

>Nagao was born September 13, 2003, in Kushiro City, Hokkaido. He played ice hockey in elementary and junior high school, and judo in high school. In December 2023, he passed an open tryout at Shinkiba 1st RING. He officially joined on April 1, 2024, and debuted against Inoue Ryo at Korakuen Hall on October 22 of the same year. Though small at 164 cm and 75 kg, he used his dropkick as a weapon and displayed a spirited fight style, with high hopes for his future.

So between the G1, N1, and Champion Carnival which will be the best one this year?
Anonymous No.18768315 [Report]
>>18768216
G1 was a mess this year, lots of potential but most of it wasted. Had a few excellent matches but it was dead days before the finale. Poor choice for winner.

Champions Carnival was less volatile than the G1, no matches better than a B+ but no abysmal failures like G1. Poor choice for winner.

It's really N-1's year to win if they're just decent, and promote a fresh champ. If they can't do better than New Japan and All Japan despite the abundance of talent it'll really be a classic "snatch defeat from the jaws of victory" booking that NOAH excels in.

>A shocking start. NOAH’s “N-1 VICTORY” opened at Korakuen Hall, where in a B Block official match, OZAWA (28) faced Naomichi Marufuji (45) and suffered an unsatisfying loss due to an accident and injury. With suspicion of a fractured left ankle, the worst-case scenario could see him sidelined. What will become of OZAWA, who has been a key pillar supporting the promotion’s surge forward?

>In his first singles bout with Marufuji, OZAWA immediately rolled outside at the bell to toy with the veteran. When Marufuji followed him down, OZAWA slipped back inside, mocking and provoking him further. He even tried to pull off the forbidden Shiranui.

>Angered by these usual antics, Marufuji unleashed a furious assault at ringside, hurling OZAWA into the guardrail and chopping him down. Still, back in the ring, OZAWA countered with a moonsault attack over the guardrail, using the top rope for momentum against Marufuji on the floor—seemingly turning the tide.

>But on landing, he appeared to injure himself, clutching his left leg in agony and unable to stand. The ringside count continued, and OZAWA was declared the loser by ring-out. The anticlimactic result left the venue buzzing. Still holding his leg, OZAWA was stretchered out without comment. Marufuji, unsettled, could only remark, “Nothing… nothing. Go gain some experience.”
Anonymous No.18776087 [Report]
>>18776074
>Afterward, trainer Kento Nagahama indicated a possible fracture of the left ankle, and OZAWA was scheduled for a hospital exam on the 9th. NOAH overseer and CyberFight director Takeda Arihiro lamented, “This is an emergency…” If the man who sparked the “OZAWA Shock” with his spectacular debut in January and has supported the promotion’s strong run is seriously hurt, “Damage to the company? It’s huge,” he admitted.

>With the league spanning not only Tokyo but also regional cities, Takeda added gravely, “The local fans want to see OZAWA too…” Future participation will depend on the hospital results, and for now, “All we can do is pray it’s not a serious injury.”

>A shocking accident befalls the tournament’s top favorite right at the opening match. If OZAWA must withdraw, chaos is inevitable—but how will it all play out?

>In the A Block official match of NOAH’s singles league “N-1 VICTORY” opening round (8th, Korakuen Hall), “The Beast” Kazuyuki Fujita (54) defeated Sasaki Ulka (35), starting off with a victory.

>In a pre-match interview, Fujita had expressed caution about Sasaki, noting “he’s fast.” The battle between two fighters with MMA backgrounds saw fierce grappling exchanges from the outset. When Ulka attempted a triangle choke from the bottom, Fujita lifted him high and slammed him down, then lifted him again to unleash a Beast Bomb, scoring the three count.

>Backstage, Fujita offered only enigmatic words: “There is only one thought. Rather than pursue questions, pursue answers. That’s all.”

One theory among Japanese fans is that he was given the job of guiding the bus to park and it somehow backed up into him. your answer to that is in the "Brother YASSHI insulted a former PM" it's more likely that things like that become a scandal because involve outsiders.
But for now, since AJPW was vague on how the incident happened and the trainee died, no one can't really point fingers are AJPW.
I'm 100% sure that this incident involved other wrestlers, bullying and other things you'd hear everyone talk about it.

>On the 10th, All Japan Pro Wrestling announced that it will hold a press conference on the 12th in Tokyo regarding the accident involving Taishin Nagao and the touring bus.

>Nagao passed away on the 7th at the hospital where he had been receiving treatment. He was 21 years old. Up to now, AJPW has only explained that “on May 31 he was involved in contact with a touring bus, and due to traumatic shock from abdominal compression he continued receiving treatment in the ICU. The cause of death is under investigation, with the body entrusted to the police, and will be reported later.” At the press conference, more detailed information about the day’s events is expected to be given by President Takenori Fukuda and others.

>Nagao, a native of Kushiro City, Hokkaido, played ice hockey through junior high school. To pursue a career in pro wrestling, he practiced judo in high school. In December 2023, he passed the AJPW open tryout held at Shinkiba 1st RING. On October 22, 2024, at Korakuen Hall—the promotion’s anniversary show—he debuted against Ryo Inoue.

OZAWA inexplicably became NOAH's top draw kind of by happenstance.

NOAH's Ace situation is weird. They've blown through so many Ace's that nobody can ever agree on the real one. There's not really like this Tanahashi or Okada figure that you can point to as the guy definitively.

OZAWA is the top heel, but he's also their top draw. At least in Korakuen Hall. See >>18778498

Kaito's still there, but he's had so much bad booking over the years that he's pretty much done. Being cucked by Okada and Mutoh. Reverting to a young boy at one point as the fucking Ace. He's only 29 and he already feels capped at a certain level. I've also seen some Japanese fans say he's bad on the mic, but I can't really confirm that. He sounds fine to me, but maybe it's different if you actually speak the language. He's the GHC Champion and he's acting like some sort of starstruck kid around Mutoh, and constantly gets his ass beat by him too in matches.

Shiozaki, Sugiura, KENTA, Marufuji, Morishima and so many others. There hasn't been a genuine longstanding Ace figure since like Kobashi. Not even like All Japan where you can easily point to Suwama and Kento. I guess Sugiura is probably the closest one.

Kaito was getting bad booking before, and got bad booking after. Maybe they assumed that his youth would make everything after not matter as much, as he would have plenty of time. I do think that was Kazu's real feelings though considering he had the same attitude in New Japan about younger guys.

NOAH has been barely clinging to life since 2017 or so. I think they simply recognize their position in the hierarchy. They're fine with being the dog to get kicked around so long as they may get crumbs from whatever arrangement there is. It's not like this isn't evne the first time it happened with New Japan.

bruh
Anonymous No.18788959 [Report]
>>18788929
there was some banter between them last month, gives the impression Suwama vs Nakajima is where this is all leading:

>“The Rampaging President” Suwama (48), leader of Pro-Wrestling Evolution, made his first appearance in GLEAT and caused a stir.

>On August 21st, Suwama stormed into GLEAT’s Gotanda show alongside his ally Shuji Ishikawa (49). Sharing his impression of the promotion, he said, “It’s the group my teacher Hayashi (Kaz Hayashi) is running, right? My image of it? It gives off a refined impression.” But when asked about Katsuhiko Nakajima (37), who holds both the G-REX and LIDET UWF World titles, Suwama gave a cold response to his old verbal sparring rival: “Nakajima…? Who’s that? I don’t know him. Anyway, I’m off to look for the mastermind now, so can we end this interview?”

>In the match, he and Ishikawa faced T-Hawk & Ryo Aitaka. From the start Suwama went into rampage mode, running wild all over the compact venue. In the end, he crushed Aitaka with a devastating Rock Drop and scored the three-count, then grabbed the mic in true domineering style: “Hey! Isn’t there anyone more interesting around here?”

>Afterward, at T-Hawk’s request, a showdown was set for GLEAT’s September 18 show at Tokyo City Hall & Gallery Gotanda. Suwama barked, “I haven’t rampaged enough yet! Doesn’t GLEAT have anything more exciting?” He went further, declaring, “I’ll take all of GLEAT’s fans over to Evolution!” Ishikawa hyped him up with, “That’s our president!” leaving Suwama pleased.

>What kind of chemical reaction will GLEAT undergo with the rampaging man now in the mix…?

Alright, I paid Marufji his shekels to see what his blog actually says. Wasn't really worth it but whatever:
>The first time I met him was at Korakuen Hall. He was introduced as a young man who said he wanted to join NOAH. I heard he had once joined another promotion (I’ll refrain from naming it) as a trainee but was let go. Still, because he wanted to become a pro wrestler, he wanted to join NOAH. When I saw him, his eyes were the real deal, and his physique (height and build) was also good. And he was young.
>To be honest, he was exactly the kind of talent NOAH “wanted,” so I thought “definitely,” while also telling him—though I’m not sure if he remembers—“Do this with the determination to prove wrong the promotion that cut you loose.” And then he moved into the dorms. First of all, he was very athletic. NOAH’s training was probably different from that of the promotion he left, so there must have been many things that didn’t go as smoothly as he hoped. At that time, the way dojo training worked was that it was passed down from one senior to another, so unlike now, I hardly ever showed my face there. When he talks about the “dark side of the dojo,” is he referring to that period?
>There’s also the issue of how, after his debut, he wasn’t given many matches. I don’t really want to talk too much about backstage matters, but the matchmaker who booked matches back then was different from the one now. In any case, the “world” that the matchmaker at that time was trying to create probably didn’t align with his own vision or wishes. Regarding this, it’s not something I intend to write more about on Note, so I’m sorry, but I won’t go into further detail.
>Also, some people might wonder, “Even though you were the vice president, why didn’t you step in?” But that was that person’s role and responsibility. I did give my opinions to some extent, but the final decision-making power wasn’t mine.
Anonymous No.18789337 [Report] >>18789344
>>18789331
>I’m sure he must have been frustrated that, even though he wanted to wrestle, he wasn’t being booked for matches. This turns into a story about myself, but when I debuted, it wasn’t as if I had matches every day either. The much bigger Morishima-san was booked almost constantly, while it felt like either Hashi-san or I would be added to the card. Since I was still young, there was a time when I wondered, “Are smaller wrestlers just not expected to amount to much?”
>Now then—before the match, he also made one of his trademark sharp-tongued remarks toward me. He’s 28 years old, three years into his career. Despite a few minor injuries, his condition is good, and he’s at a stage where he’s highly motivated. And here I am, turning 46 this year, entering my 28th year in wrestling—getting called “Grandpa” by him… I’m honestly not a grandpa yet, but at the same time, I have to admit those words lit a fire under me. His style, and his attitude of wanting to surpass his seniors, reminded me a bit of my younger self.
>So, what kind of match should I give him? Since he said he’d “finish it quickly,” maybe I should go for a lightning-fast win instead. Or should I take my time and draw things out? Should I test him with straight wrestling? Should I suddenly burst into action? Make it a fun match? …No, maybe I should give him a taste of fear… Just thinking about things like this is what makes pro wrestling so enjoyable. And the number of opponents who can make you feel that way is limited. That’s also what I meant in the post I made on X when I said, “You can have a conversation through pro wrestling.”
>At Korakuen Hall, with the N-1 matches being the main focus of the card, the opening bout had already been filled with intense action and back-and-forth exchanges. So I decided I would start the match by syncing with his rhythm, taking it in and savoring it as we went along. Yes—psychological warfare outside of just moves and techniques.
Anonymous No.18789344 [Report] >>18789350 >>18789594
>>18789337
>For a wrestler with only about three years of experience to be able to pull that off—that’s already pretty amazing. (But since he’s a heel, I won’t go out of my way to praise him like this on social media or in public.) It takes both match experience and natural talent. You need quick thinking and sharp instincts. (Again, something I wouldn’t openly say.) That’s an area I consider one of my strengths as well, so I thought I’d enjoy leaning into it. And I figured many fans would also enjoy that kind of subtle battle. I imagine even TAJIRI-san, who’s a big fan of OZAWA, probably enjoys that part too (lol).
>Normally, I don’t think too much in advance about specific moves during a match, but there was one thing I definitely wanted to try. It was this: to take his high missile kick, counter it by sliding sideways, and turn it into something like a backdrop hold. You see lots of wrestlers counter a missile kick or dropkick by turning it into something like a powerbomb, but I’ve never seen anyone counter with a backdrop—and from there, maybe even bridge straight into a hold. I’d never actually practiced this before—not even once. As I was weaving things like that into the match, he suddenly launched his own surprise attack. I had predicted he might go for a Shiranui or even the Shiranui Kai. But what he pulled out instead was a La Quebrada over the guardrail.
>Some of you may know this, but back in the day, in my match against KENTA, when I used that move, I smashed my throat against the fence and was rushed to the hospital afterward. The diagnosis was something I had never heard before: “throat contusion.” The doctor told me, “If you had hit your Adam’s apple, it would’ve cracked, air would’ve leaked out, and you would’ve died.” That stuck with me. To be honest, it’s a trauma. It was even featured once on Nippon TV’s Shinsoi Hanashi (“Deep Stories”) program (though I don’t think the footage exists anymore. Someday, I’ll write about that too).
Anonymous No.18789350 [Report]
>>18789344
>And that’s exactly what he aimed for. It rattled me even more than if he had gone for a Shiranui.
>Opponent or not, I never want to injure someone. In that situation, I thought, “I have no choice but to take it,” but then something unexpected happened. His jump covered more distance than I imagined, drifting several dozen centimeters off to the side. Even though I instinctively reached out, I think he was headed straight for the floor with full force. And more than anything, it looked like he landed awkwardly—on his ankle? His foot? I used to do La Quebradas myself many times. Of course, distance matters, but my mindset was always to land it rather than to just attack with it. Looking back at the footage, this one wasn’t based on landing at all—the trajectory, the arc, looked like a full-on attack. The curve and force were almost like Mutoh-san’s moonsault. If I had managed to catch him cleanly, maybe it wouldn’t have ended this way. Thinking that way honestly weighs on me, even if he is a heel.
>As I’ve also written elsewhere, there’s nothing enjoyable about your opponent getting hurt. My expression after the match—that was my real, raw emotion. I wanted to fight more. I wanted to “talk” more through pro wrestling. But instead, it ended with a referee stoppage—a frustrating, bittersweet result. A storm of emotions ran through me, and anger at myself welled up too. When it comes to matches with him, I’m confident I can entertain the fans even more.
>He went to the UK because he wanted to change himself. That experience, his ambition, and even the jealousy he carried transformed his confidence by the time he returned. I’ll write more about that next time…
>Oh, right—there’s still one thing I can say for sure that I’ve beaten him at. And that’s this: while he’s never managed to break the “10,000 slot machine payout wall,” I’ve crossed it many times.

>President Takenori Fukuda and Director Toeda Toshiki attended the press conference. A progress report was distributed to the press ahead of the conference. According to the report, Nagao's condition suddenly worsened in the early hours of the 6th of this month, and he died of sepsis on the 7th. His body was cremated in Yokohama on the 10th. His funeral is scheduled to be held in his hometown of Kushiro, Hokkaido. The cause of the accident was "under investigation by the police," the company said.
>At the press conference, President Fukuda revealed that the accident occurred when "the wrestler was directing a tour bus on a street near the dojo and collided with another vehicle," and that the wrestler immediately called an ambulance and was rushed to a hospital in Yokohama. The wrestler's representative reportedly contacted Director Toeda about the accident. The wrestler, who was in the ambulance, contacted Nagao's family, who live in Kushiro, and his parents rushed to the hospital on May 31st. Toeda later revealed that "his liver and other organs were damaged, and he underwent open surgery."
>The driver who committed the crime had been in charge of driving for All Japan Pro Wrestling for the past two years. Regarding the driver's health management, Toeda said, "He had not reported feeling unwell, so we had judged that there were no health problems," and added that the police are currently "questioning him repeatedly."
>The organization has responded sincerely to Nagao's family since the accident and will continue to hold discussions with them. On the other hand, Toeda said, "I think there is a possibility that the parents will file a lawsuit over the accident."

>At the press conference that day, President Fukuda explained that despite being aware of the accident, the reason for his absence was announced on May 31st as "due to injury," and that "I didn't think it was serious because I didn't know how long his hospitalization would last." Nothing too spectacular from the N1 so far.

With WWE making a Japan tour soon, I wonder if there'll be NOAH representation. I hate the partnership, but it feels inevitable that WWE buys one of the big 3 eventually. Even with Japanese xenophobia autism.

The only thing wrong ajpw said is that he is injured instead of saying he got in an accident.

It's an accident but it's tricky since it happened in the workplace

Do ya think they'll ever move away from Heavyweight and Jr. Heavyweight stuff? Or are all the fanbases too set in their ways? The Jr's seem to be more popular than the Heavy's in most of the promotions anyway. And some may be promoted as Heavy's but come on. They weren't sticking OZAWA in there with Stan Hansen or Terry Gordy. The Lucha guys used to always get slotted in the Jr. division but now someone like Galeno looks like a monster.

I don’t think it will ever change. The problem is that most promotion don’t have enough real heavyweights. People like Ulka and Kenoh would be juniors if the pool was deeper

I keep seeing this lukewarm take on here, and it's retarded every time. One of the bigger problems with Japanese wrestling in particular, but western wrestling as well, is that everybody has to get shoehorned onto every card, so you end up with piles of heatless multi-man matches... and your solution is to further smash the roster together into an even more worthless lump of gray?

The junior/heavyweight division is a far cry from what it once was but it gives the roster the opportunity to breath. A super popular wrestler can challenge for the top belt of his division while another top wrestler can challenge for the top title of THEIR division. Nobody is seen as settling for a midcard title like your various TV/IC/NEVER/National titles and the card can feature multiple feuds. It's a win/win.

The alternative is everybody either getting into a queue for the singular top title or settling for a midcard title. Great... and that's good... why?

I'd rather see guys like Kushida, Hiromu, Yo-Hey, etc. treated like stars of their division than being challenger #12 in the heavyweight scene.

There are two days in Sapporo, is he gonna survive?
Anyway, don't expect much from this matchup because is something we already saw and last interesting Yoshihiko match was against Suzuki Minoru and I don't think Hirata can top that one.
No idea if on /puro/ anyone commented on this year WPP, I liked but like many other japanese I felt a bit uncomfortable at the way they decided to end, not because of Hirata got the belt (deserved imo after many years of doing what he does consistently etc etc) but constantly making Ueno suffer, still making him struggle after several years of being one of the top players, is starting to wary me down, don't hate it because I completely get why they doing it (and why he's letting that happen lol) but still
Right now I'm more curious to see how DDT is going to handle the others belts, the Universal and the 6 man tag team.
