It means that he still had to walk away and leave wrestling altogether which regardless of AEW or WWE he still did

I doubt this. During that ankle injury he was already visiting Raw and saying hi to people. He did that FS1 WWE show. The wheels had been in motion. Once his AEW contract was up he likely would've gone back to WWE regardless or at the very least tested the waters which he was already doing

Which was before AEW and Vince turned him down for a proper comeback. Him visiting RAW while at AEW was when all the drama and dirtsheet shit got to him.

I know. But he had already been back and around things in a WWE capacity. So he had already been feeling things out in some regard which was more my point with that part

Maybe. Maybe not. I can see it. Further I could also see it taking him going to AEW and being there a while for WWE to warm up to the idea of having him back as well. At the same time it's WWE. Bret came back. Warrior came back. Macho Man came back (even if it was just for some promotional stuff). That door is never fully closed and he was always going to return
