Are people actually serious when they say they preferred singlet-workrate Scott Steiner over Big Puppa Pump or are they just posting it to gain smark clout? I feel like most of them never watched a Steiner Brothers match but all the Poppa Pump compilations but will claim they preferred Steiner Brothers Scott.

Well that Scott was way better in the ring. He had some really solid performances in 99-01 but he was a shell of himself by then. He also had some shockingly good TNA matches. Steiner Bros Scott was a total freak with how fast and athletic he was despite his size.

Big Pappa Pump had some funny promos but if you didn't like singlet Steiner you might have a testosterone deficiency.

He was 3rd for reader's favorite wrestler (after Flair and Liger) in the 1990 Observer awards, but also 4th in the kayfabe PWI mag for most popular in 1991 and 6th in the first PWI 500 that year. Impossible nowadays for a tag team wrestler. A lot of that has to do with how teams are booked now, but also Scott was innovative for his time.

Isnt it amazing how scott steiner has universal appeal ?
I see him as succesor to hogan
If wrestling had 10 big poppa pumps spread over the world and promotions post 2002 it would be in far better shape

I watched this last night, too bad about the ending, they probably felt like it was great booking.

Really hard reading your post. I see the good intentions but grappling with so many grammatical and spelling errors became too exhaustive.

Patterson and Prichard wanted Steiner to debut as a singles wrestler in late 92 and win the 1993 Royal Rumble, but Vince was set on Yokozuna.

Never watched a full Gorilla-commented match until now and holy shit it's so pleasant having someone call the match naturally without sounding like they just did some adderall before the show and also pointing out the mistakes in execution and wrestling strategy when they occur rather than constantly showering one or both wrestlers with complements. Also the FIRST tag partner save only comes 21 minutes into the bout.

The Steiner Brothers were one of the best tag teams during the two best periods of WCW, the best year of ECW, and the best era of New Japan.
I'd say it just comes down to whether you prefer a sustained run with a lot of good and innovative work happening in good places versus a legendary gimmick worked in fairly shitty places.
Personally I just think it's worth celebrating that he had that kind of range throughout his career. One of a kind, and definitely deserves more serious consideration when talking about all time greats

Never forget that Dave spent years burying Monsoon in his newsletter and convincing his followers to vote Monsoon worst commentator for years in the Observer awards. He big gripe was Gorilla pointing out when a guy wasn't going for a cover or applying a move wrong. No shit, he's an analyst calling it from the perspective of a former wrestler.

WTF is wrong with him. That's part of what makes the match realistic. I'm not saying to he should have went full Didn't-Get-All-Of-It during obvious botches but when a wrestler is being sloppy when going for the pin or submission it deserves to be called out and helps new viewers understand how a match SHOULD be conducted.

The Apter mags bashed him also. He only seems like a great commentator today because the commentators and style has devolved so much.

Was it really? He knew all the names of the moves, which was highly unusual for a wrestler of that time. Must have been a giga mark.
