It became taboo for wrestling schools to take a percentage of their trainees first contact, mainly because they’d wait until the last minute to tell them that’s how they make their money or because they would demand way too much like career long compensation. So wrestling schools started charging significant fees for training.
Now if you’re a college athlete who blew out your knee you’re not necessarily thinking dropping a lump sum of 5k and then a couple hundred a week to train in something might but probably won’t get a job in. But if you’re 90 pounds soaking wet and your favorite thing is wrestling it seems like a small price to pay for the ultimate engagement with your hobby.
