In reality Ultimo winning the WCW championship legitimized the other 8 nothing belts, the WCW championship was much more important then and that NWA Middleweight belt was also there.
Sasha at least beat someone for each of her belts that's slightly more impressive than a tournament win to me, she just needs one of the top belts, that's what Ultimo had that she doesn't, the WCW title was the top belt for cruiserweights at the time even over the J-Crown.

Poor Great Sasuke gets forgotten in this conversation when he's the actual first J Crown Champion. Because of that, people forget that the 8 belts were literally fought for in a tournament with the 7 best Jrs in Japan along with Negro Casas from Mexico (no disrespect, he's based he's just not Japanese) leading to the finals with every belt on the line between 2 men. Ultimo was already the man when he added the other 2.

There's no comparison between that and Mercedes hopping around to indies with promotions, champions and championships nobody has heard of to wrestle 1 match and dip with their belt to do fuckall with. If I understand the story correctly, there was an attempt to make a lightheavyweight division of sorts in the 80s to entice more Japanese wrestlers to the WWF, but they literally cared so little about it that they lost the belt. Like, literally misplaced it. However, it actually ended up on the independent circuit and eventually wound up in the hands of Ultimo Dragon. I think WWF requesting its return prior to re-kickstarting the lightheavyweight division in the 90s is what saw an end to the J-Crown.
