Watching Cena vs AJ made me think about how AEW could never, ever pull off something like that because the entire company has no history. It's never produced memorable characters. It's never produced a real storyline. 99% of the matches in AEW have no story at all. Tony can't make any callbacks to iconic AEW moments because there aren't any. The consequence of building a promotion around bangerinos with little to no story is a total lack of history. AEW is a nothingburger.

Most AEW match story are "remember that match we had 2001? Let's do that again, except worse in every possible way". I have said this a million times, but AEW would probably improve a ton if Tony wasn't a complete retard and hired someone to do creative, even Vince who was experienced beyond belief had an army of writers proposing storylines. Since AEW started it relied on things that happened OUTSIDE of it as the core of the story, it made sense at the start since the members who started it had a long story going in Japan, but 6 years later and he is still doing the same thing, and it keeps getting worse by the way. I am sure the 20th reset will work.

The shit Cena did was just the reheated nachos of the 4 pillars match where they all did other people's moves. And it was gay when they did it too.

A full reset, new name, new roster, publicly announce Tony's involvement is limited to money. Take at least a year off running untelevised shows and training camps to get the roster TV ready. When back on the air focus on a group of guys who win their matches decisively and cut promos to connect to the audience. No more of this week on week off bullshit the lazy as fuck adam page shit.

Maybe, but it is extremely hard and a long term process and results may never materialize, obviously hire a competent booker (the hardest part since all the experienced ones are signed by WWE or hate Tony so much that they would never do it no matter how much money they are payed), hire some writers to write original coherent storylines, and you go from there. as >>19026634 said, you would think Tony would have realized that what he is doing is clearly not working by now, the fact that he hasn't means it's very unlikely to be salvaged, unless he is willing to go zombie mode extremely long term like TNA and hope fortunes will turn 20 years from now.

6 years should be plenty of time to establish some kind of history but AEW has completely failed to. AEW is just a bunch of matches that all blur together peppered with the occasional poorly executed, unsubstantial, forgettable storyline.

Cena did have historic feuds. A number of them were historic for the wrong reasons but they were still historic. Look at how the entire stadium erupted and instantly lit up in unison when he hit the Sister Abigail. AEW can never produce something like that, not because they've only existed for 6 years, but because Tony has no idea how to create history.
