While I’m emotional knowing how much this championship meant to Sareee, I’m all the happier they got the proper time to have their moment in a match that felt like it didn’t get its proper time to have just that.

Four days notice for fans, who knows for the wrestlers. But what I do know is that Sareee and Syuri closed out their 2025 trilogy with a match they should be incredibly proud of. One that set the bar on a NJPW show that I wondered if they’d even get such time to do so.

I’m happy for Syuri. This is a wrestler who has made my experience as a fan all the better through the years. And I hope for her, she can get a great reign as she becomes the first two-time IWGP Women’s Champion.

They should both be incredibly proud of what they did, even if I believe they should’ve received more time to properly tell the story of their trilogy.

A championship that meant the world to Sareee, one that she had been talking about for a long time before she even challenged for the belt in the first place.

It may not be the exact reign that it very well could have been, I’d argue should have been, but it was simply special to just see Sareee win the IWGP Women’s Championship in the first place. To see her win the belt that she wanted and defend it in a NJPW ring to close out the reign. And doing so as a freelancer. She’s one of one.

I’m grateful to have covered any part of it, and even more so happy to have watched the journey to the belt from start to finish. What her and Syuri created this year was really special — a trilogy that started on a Sareee-ISM show in Shinjuku FACE and ended in a NJPW show at Ryogoku Sumo Hall. It’s pretty unbelievable to think when you look at it that way.

This is the best wrestler in the world, and I’m always ready to follow whatever Sareee does next. She deserves the world.

Congratulations on the reign, the match, and the moment. It’s all worth celebrating.
