a smark is a smart mark. in the classic definition, when a mark gets smart, it means they wise up to wrestling being fake and use backstage/insider terms casually. it has evolved (or devolved) to mean someone that prizes a much heavier emphasis ring work over anything else in wrestling, particularly on seeing physically impressive feats. smarks generally tend to like either high flyers or technicians though they can sometimes like powerhouses or brawlers too, like gunther or tomohiro ishii. smarks tend to be associated with non-WWE wrestling because WWE deemphasizes the in-ring aspect of wrestling.
antismarks evolved in response to smarks. they are a group of people that are not exactly marks in the traditional sense but prize the same things in wrestling that marks are stereotyped to like, the WWE style of wrestling that puts emphasis on anything but the wrestling. they watch for the entrances, the promos, the physiques of the wrestlers and the crowd reactions. antismarks tend to like powerhouses because they are big and impressive looking, though not all antismark favorites are powerhouses or even big, dominik mysterio is an example. it’s in the name, but antismarks are again not exactly marks but specifically anti/against/hostile to smarks and things they like or care about. smarks don’t care about promos they just want to see movez movez movez, antismarks don’t care about matches they just want to see big crowd pops. smarks don’t care about the company’s bottom line, antismarks judge a wrestler’s worth based on how much money he’s making and how big a draw he is.
