this is just my opinion, but I think the problem is that they have too many midcard titles. The IC title actually had some importance back when it was the sole midcard title in the WWF. This is why there should never be more than 1-2 midcard titles.

Too many titles is absolutely an issue and I do think that there was a time where the lower card titles did matter to some degree but I don't think that has been the case since the 90s. Even in a scripted setting, people want to see the best of the best, not the best of the average so no title other than the main titles matter.

The title bloat is due to the brand split, but the brand split is because of the bloated roster. The brief period where champions could appear on both shows had a good idea about how to book it, but travel arrangements and certain champions being lazy as fuck (Hunter) about working both shows torpedoed that.

The only way one midcard championship works (and another for the women, because you can't retire that now) is to massively cut the roster or unify some of the midcard titles with the NXT belts.

He didn't need to go over Gable. Gable could have had a short reign, dropped to Jey and naturally lead into Bron. Bron/Gable at Summerslam would have had way more high impact selling than Sami's "fumble in the corner and pull my hair like Foley to show I am desperate"
