It's just how pro wrestling works, even 40 years ago you'd be hard pressed to find a world champ anywhere that wasn't at least in his mid 30s
Thing is for long title reigns, they need someone reliable, experienced, mature and with his head on his shoulders, cause back then he was defending the title all the goddamn time and had to uphold kayfabe like nobody else, and now the long term champs are basically PR representatives that have to interact with fans and media more than any other wrestler
