Tanahashi is probably fresher in the minds of a generation of fans than Muto plus Tanahashi's running his retirement through NJPW instead of NOAH which also probably helps. I imagine Muto's numbers would've been bigger if he let NJPW do his retirement but I get NOAH offered him a backstage gig and other stuff.
