There was nobody outside of a locker room that knew more than him from 1983 to at least like 1999. There was 20 different magazines with staffs and they would get a lot of info from him. There's a reason Frank Gefford chose Dave for the National and not Bill Apter or somebody. Only PWI mag, Dave and Wade Keller remain, though Dave switched to only digital for the newsletter. Twitter and to a lesser extent talking regularly on podcasts have not helped Dave's reputation, ruined his relationship with Cornette, etc.

It's a combination of AEW and his advancing years that have totally cooked what was left of his reputation. Like most autistic superfans, he always pretended that some pissant nonsense or other was better than WWE, but AEW is essentially Dave Meltzer: The Promotion, so he's given up any pretence of integrity. It's sad to see him getting shredded on twitter daily, as his new copes contradict his copes from just a few months ago.
