A comet falls across the sky. Across the land, men, greenskins, and other Things look up at the sight, and point and wonder. Some are fearful. Some consult their wise men. And some get krumped. An emperor sits uneasy in his court. Amidst these days of ill omen, could this be another herald of doom? Elven seers clutch their heads, as they feel fate itself becoming warped. The Four pause their great game a moment, for there is a new piece on their board. Books are consulted, wise men harassed, but none have any answer for this sudden portent. And then more comets fall upon this world, streaks of red across a purple sky, and the people scream out in terror.

But they are all of them deceived.

For it is one of His Space Marines that has landed upon this forgotten world, a world unknown to the Imperium, a world that does not know His light. You are one of the last of your chapter, your battle barge breaking apart in the warp as it spat you out above this forgotten corner of the galaxy. Grabbing onto a piece of debris, you fell onto this world alone. You do not know if any of your brothers survived.

Who are you?

I've been good, thanks. Life's been doing it's thing. Finally felt the need to run a quest again. Still planning to go back to Republic and Heresy at some point, I realised that I was winging things too much and stressing out over the story, which lead to burnout. This should be much better planned, and easier for me to write. So hopefully after a thread or two of this the stories of Commander Sulla and Alpharius will continue!

Your battle barge held the last remnants of your chapter. Sent out amidst the madness breaking upon Cadia, they had met the foul forces of Chaos at every turn, each battle suffering losses there was no time to replace. Your chapter master fell at the gates of your Fortress-Monastery on Kronus IV, and there was no time to choose a successor when the world was engulfed by the forces of Chaos. Harried from one system to the next, the chapter suffered a thousand wounds until only one ship was left, and then the aged Gellar fields finally gave out in the warp, spitting out the broken ship above this distant world.

This is the end for your chapter. Even if there are other survivors, you would be too few to reform, and the last of your geneseed is almost certainly lost. But despite the bitterness of defeat, your memory still burns strong with pride. It is not your end time, not yet. You fought fierce and unwavering in the furnace of war, and so long as you live they will not be forgotten. Yes, you will always remember…

Maybe one day you will bring word of their fate to the rest of the Imperium, but until that day comes you will hold their memory close to you. >Company of Dreadnoughts

The Knights Celestial and their ancients were the terror of many a Xenos, Mutant, and Heretic. But alas, the once proud company, the second, was whittled down over the battles until it too was a shadow of its former self, only a handful of your oldest and fiercest left aboard your final journey into the warp. You would weep if you had the means to, but the act is far too human for one of His Angels.

But all of that is distant now. What rules your thoughts currently is pain. You feel it all throughout your body. After tumbling from orbit you had hit the ground, hard. You are thankful for that, for if you had fallen into an ocean you would have no doubt sunken to the bottom, and the chapter would be lost forever. But you are alive, and on solid ground. Your helmet display buzzes, error symbols flashing by, dark flecks of blood obscuring some of it, but it is still functioning. You gingerly try lifting your arm, and it obeys. It hurts, but by the Throne you can move it. Slowly, and painfully, you lift yourself up from the wreckage and examine yourself. You’re hurting all over, but so far as you can tell no bones have been broken, and your armour seems intact, if a little scorched. It is then that you remember. Your weapons. You had attached them to your armour as the ship was breaking apart, trusting that the mag-locks would hold. You look around and quickly see them, only a short way away, partly buried in the burnt dirt. They must have been dislodged from the impact. You are relieved. It will be what you rely upon in the coming days, for you have no other weapons, and you do not know if anything else may have survived the re-entry.
You reach over and grab…

>Your bolt pistol and chainsword. Versatile and balanced, you may use both at the same time with ease. Many a foe who has thought to escape the bite of your pistol by charging you has been cut down just as coldly up close.

You will be limited on ammo at first, but you will have the opportunity to get more from fallen debris. You will start with several magazines though. It's mostly so you don't solo everyone who doesn't have weapons that can pierce power armour Which is most regular opponents on this planet.

Ah, that sucks to here. Especially since if we want to avoid suffering from relying on an inccreasingly few debris falling towards Mallus as time goes on, and we don't really have the tools or ingrediants to try and cook up a Bolt shell diet version to serve as a replacement, we may as well just look into capturing some equipment that fell from orbit, before bring it up as a challenge to a master dwarf engineer and tell them to make a version, not the same because they will always make an inferior version no matter what they do, to serve as a ready replacement, especially since unless you can cast a magic enchanctment to help avoid dealing with the problems of ammo or plasma cell burnout from over use, which would also apply to other even more esoteric weapons if we were super lucky to get them, its just not worth the time or effort to get or look into keeping a ranged weapon until we find something that can very much pierce our power armour and so need to keep a distance, or as mentioned solve that ammo problem because Emperor knows we are going to burn through those magazines within 2 months while stuck on this deathworld of a planet. With that being the case, I would say we should keep playing to our strengths and pick a power weapon that is one of the best weapons we could possibly look for at the start and work from there until we can get it either improved somehow by ourselves, or have it further enchancted by a wizard of the colleges or elves, of we were willing to deal with xenos or witches I presume. Really hope we aren't just stuck picking a power sowrd and we can just pick different power weapons from the list above to choose from, because man power claws are great for melee combat.

A power sword is more than enough in melee for a space marine combat loadout, even if a plasma pistol might be given alongside it or a shield, if we have it we probably got honored for it after a campaign/deed.

In regard to industrial capabilities ... even if those are lacking, Space marines can be fairly smart in using their weapons. For example with ranged here, they would attempt to line up multiple enemies for headshots or fatal wounds and use it only when they feel they are under threat. Gurnemanz likely knows he isn't getting supplies from the Imperium anytime soon (if he had any time to see any analysis of the planet from above, it would be judged a feudal world if not feral in some places).

>>6267728
>debris
It sucks at first, but even if Gurnemanz is lucky and multiple debris fall down....would he be able to use everything he can find in them ? He is only one marine after all. What if he finds more wargear than he can use....

>we find something that can very much pierce our power armour
there are only certain things that fall in this category here. But beside the natives .... are we sure the ones that destroyed the Knight Celestials aren't checking the debris falling down ? just a thought.

>either improved somehow by ourselves, or have it further enchanted by a wizard of the colleges or elves
This depends entirely on two things : what kind of chapter the Knights Celestials are (philosophy, traditions, age of chapter founding, what kind of homeworld Kronus IV was, geneseed), and what kind of marine Gurnemanz is (experiences, defining traits, origin. He clearly respect the ex-leaders of his chapter, so thats already cemented).

>pick different power weapons from the list
i recon Aurebesh is going to mix whats inside the falling debris based on the choices ahead of us. A power greatsword if we have the geneseed of the Dark Angels, a power gladius if we have the one of Ultramarines etc... nevermind what chimeric or traitor geneseed could have. Just throwing a few examples, could be more, could be less. It could be all damaged when we find it or in perfect conditions.

I mean technically yes he could use up all of the ammo he gets every time debris falls, but realistically no. He will probably just start adding it to his gear load out until he probably would need to create a cache or depot to put everything somewhere safe where it wont be found and destroyed by either weather, natives, flora or fauna. Which, still won't solve the fact that each time he shoots a bolt pistol he will, until the next resupply point or gets into somehow creating a refinery and then workshop to make new bullets for his guns, be unable to use it once ammo runs out.

>are we sure the ones that destroyed the Knight Celestials aren't checking the debris falling down ?
Personally, I think it was just from how extensive the damage the chapter sustain after multiple non-stop campaigns against so many enemies, that it wasn't one singular that caused this, but overtime wear and tear with no repair in between, before either a warpstorm or a really bad gellarfield breaking caused the rest of the chapters fleet to be destroyed and lost, and us on the battle barge avoided suffering that same fate by hard activating emergency actions to jump out of the warp, location or consequences be damned. Which is why the ship is breaking down in mid orbit, and why Gurn has no idea who or how he got here nor what awaits for him on the planet below since his chapter couldn't scan it before the ships damaged Mandeville Point entry brought it too close to the planets orbit and caused it to breakdown and start coming down to the planets surface. Sorry for the really long explanation, but the explanation to me felt like it needed a really good idea of how we got here when we did, where we did, and why we did come here as we are.

>what kind of marine Gurnemanz.
We already had something of a glimpse into how that would work out, we had a choice between 2 perks in either being unable to cast magic if we choose hating the warp no matter what and hatred of alien-kind which would make us a better skilled fighter, but would forever make us enemies to any other non-human species on the planet no matter what, with maybe the exception of the dwarves, but thats not a really good odds of happening, especially with how Dwarves are with there history and beliefs of being something completely separate from humanity. Since we didn't take it, we seem to be on the table, but actually getting around to it, is going to take a lot more out of us, then Gurn feeling he should or could do this and it would be ok as both a marine in general and his chapter at large.

And for your last question, I think we just are going to be given a standard power sword weapon starting off, with no identity markers on our origin, before it becomes a loot box rolls every time we encounter a debris location and roll to see what's inside of it. Still going to pick the sword even if it isn't a powerclaw, since power sword is still a power weapon at the end of the day.

Power Sword
Power Sword
md5: c62c8d07403dbb571ba731be1d2f51da🔍
Your hand grasps the hilt of your power sword. It feels strong, familiar, like an extension of yourself. You activate the energy field and a blue shimmer appears, hazy and waving like a flame. Making some motions through the air it crackles and hums, and you know that it will serve you well, like it has many times before. Turning the field off, it is only then that you finally begin to look around. You are in a large crater, burnt and scorched from the impact of the debris behind you. The molten metal is already cooling, though parts of the ground are still burning and smoke from the impact is everywhere. Walking to the edge, you pull yourself over the packed dirt and onto a wide field on top of a hill.

It is evening, or early morning. You cannot tell. There is a town in the distance, walled, with hazy wafts of smoke drifting into the air. The walls are made from stone, and your eyes can pick out old scars that cross it, and sections where the stone has collapsed and been reinforced by wooden palisades. Fields stretch beyond it, wet, dreary fields, rolling hills, and forests. The corrosive stain of industry that marks so many worlds of the Imperium is absent. A feudal world then. That is not good. Unless technology is being hoarded by its rulers, which is possible, you will have no way to contact the wider Imperium. You shrug. You will have to teach them then, of the empire beyond the sky. It has been done before, it will be done again, Throne willing.

You can see two riders approaching on horseback, obviously dispatched from the local town. Your helmet display buzzes, and zooms in on them. They are clothed in colourful garments, a metal breastplate over their chests, and each holding a halberd at their side, topped off by an extravagant hat. Further beyond you can see that a company of men is assembling near the gates of the town, clothed in similar, if slightly less ornate dress, and armed similarly, but obviously undisciplined given the way they meander about.
It is as you feared. These men have no advanced technology on them. You will be lucky if they have discovered the existence of gunpowder.

[POV Shift]

As the two men approached the crater which held the comet that had fallen from the sky they wondered at what they might find. Strange tales had been said of things that fell from the sky. Tall tales which you heard at one of the inns in the big cities, or those along the road from travelers. But never had any such tale come from this land. Perhaps it would be something they could tell their children, to frighten them in years to come. Or maybe it would be something that would bring wealth to the town. Or maybe it would turn out to be some evil thing, and end up poisoning the baron, who would surely want to rub his avaricious hands all over it. The two men joked about these things to hide their unease as they drew closer to it.

But as they drew closer they heard a noise, and a Monster walked out of the smoke. No, not a monster, but a metal giant, as tall as two men, whose eyes were all aglow and face seemingly frozen in an angry snarl. It was shaped like a man but not a man, huge and swift like no man could be. The horses faltered, and the two men felt an overwhelming dread within their hearts that no living being on this planet had ever felt before. They knew not what this Thing was, but even they who had never known the sermons that spoke of His Angels knew deep within their bones that it was a Thing for killing. They would have turned and fled, screaming to their fellows, if they were not frozen from abject terror. They had taken leave of their senses, and it was only when the Thing itself commanded them, that they remembered the use of speech.

“Speak.”

“H-Halt! C-come no f-f-further!”

They lower their halberds and you are unimpressed. Their hands are shaking and you suspect that if you made any sudden movement they would drop the weapons and flee.

“S-Stay back!”

It is more of a plea than a command. In the distance the small troop is finally beginning to march, barely managing to keep itself in a column. Their leader suddenly slips in the mud, and his fellows have to pause while he gets pulled up and placed back at the head of the column. He has lost his sword however, and he spends some time searching for it in the mud until he finds it, and triumphally waving the now useless piece above his head resumes the march. You begin to laugh. What a ridiculous situation you find yourself in.

The two men in front of you, faces pale and clammy, shiver. One of them whispers, more to himself than anyone else.

“What are you?”

You raise yourself to your full height, and they involuntarily take a step back. Even upon their horses they barely reach eye level.

What do you say to them?

>A knight, sent from beyond, to guard mankind from evil through the slaughter of its enemies.

Best start off with a vague but not threatening gesture on who and what we are. At least by telling we are a knight, they will probably assume we are just an obsuredly large human in really good metal armour. Still going to need to gather our bearings, especially since we seem to have landed somewhere in the empire, but that does almost nothing for us until we find out where and, more importantly, WHEN we are in Mallus right now.

They might get scared because the only individuals similar to us are the feared warriors of chaos. Though we have no symbol of theirs so that helps.

Likely Empire, never seen somewhere else in a quest beside once a Border Prince quest. Though there is no mention of it, and the soldiers equipment can be find in other realms of the Old world.

You should not spook these people. They are human, and seemingly free of corruption. They speak some form of low gothic at least. And if they have no knowledge of the Imperium of Man, that mighty empire that spans the galaxy, you must introduce it to them gradually. So, attaching your power sword to your hip, you slowly raise your hands to your head, and take off your helmet. The two men gasp as they look upon your face, clearly human, but moulded by His hand and the countless wars among the stars. You look upon them impassively a moment, before speaking.

>I am a knight from beyond. I am here to guard mankind from evil through the slaughter of its enemies, a bulwark against the Terror, a Defender of Humanity. I have fallen from the stars and do not know this world, but do not be afraid, for I was born to slay the foes of mankind, and I will not harm you.

The men remain frozen a few moments, before one shivers and stands a little straighter in the saddle.

“W-we, uh, thank you, sir knight. Our, uh, captain is on his way. He’ll answer any questions you might have, um, m’lord.”

You nod, and after a moments hesitation, they turn their horses round and lead them down the hill. You follow, your heavy footsteps leaving impressions in the grass as you go. Already the troop of men you saw earlier is quickly marching towards you, and you soon make contact with their mud encrusted leader, the men behind him craning their necks out to get a glimpse of the metal giant.

“Willem! Gaspar! What have you got there?”

“He says ‘ees a knight, sir! From, ah, up there!” And he points above at the sky.

“Up there? Well! Let’s have a look at him.”

The man approaches you, quite unafraid. He is drenched in mud, but somehow pays it no mind, seemingly unaware of how ridiculous he looks. He walks around you, drinking in every detail, and scratching his head, before remembering that he’s just covering it in mud. After a few moments of staring at you, and your sword, he shakes his head.

“Nope. I don’t think I’ve seen anything like you before.”

>No, you have not.

You can hear the men behind him whisper among themselves, trying to keep it low, but they are unaware of how well you can hear.

“He don’t look like one of them from the West.”

“Shush!”

“That sword looks as big as I am…”

“Think he’s magic? What will the priests say?”

The man in front of your shrugs, then holds out his hand. “Captain Johann. Commander of the town guard.”

He pauses a moment, then quickly wipes the mud off his sleeve with his spare hand. It does little to clean it, but you gingerly shake his hand anyway. You don’t think any human has offered to shake your hand before.

>I am Gurnemanz. Gurnemanz Thule.

“Pleasure to meet you, Sir Thule. I’ll be honest, I don’t know what to do with you. What are you anyway?”

>As I told your men, I am what you might call a knight. Slayer of evil and protector of humanity.

He nods. Your idea of knights is very different from his, or anyone’s on this planet, but at least he understands the term.

“Alright then. You’re going to have your work cut out for you here, fair warning, Mr. Thule. There’s a lot of evil things that roam about this empire of ours. Greenskins, mutants, witches, the lot of them.”

>I will keep that in mind. But tell me, where am I? I am not from this planet, and have no knowledge of the people or rulers here.

“Oh of course, Sir Gurnemanz. The town over yonder is Hutzheim, ruled by Baron von Wenzel. Greedy fellow. But he and the rest of us all swear fealty to the realm of His Imperial Majesty, Karl Franz!”

WELCOME, one and all, not to Warhammer 40k, but as some of you have guessed, to Warhammer FANTASY. Here you will play as a lone Space Marine in the world of Warhammer, a miracle for the downtrodden people that inhabit this doomed world, perhaps doomed no longer. However, though you be one of His angels, made of iron will and steely muscle, you are but one man, and the forces arrayed against you are numerous and malign. How you face the Old World is up to you. Will you lead the Empire to a new age of supremacy? Will you call down the wrath of the heavens and bring it into the fold of the Imperium once again? Or will the corruption that besets this planet take hold, and seep into your very soul? So seize the dice and forget the promise of progress and understanding, for in the grim darkness of the far future there is only war. Welcome, to Warhammer: Fallen Brother (see what I did with those initials?)

You follow Johann into town, with the rest of his men following behind you. People are peering at you suspiciously from behind windows and doors, the twilight growing darker as night approaches. He leads you to the Baron’s Mansion, only a little bigger and cleaner than the rest of the houses here, and does not bother to wipe the mud off his clothes as he orders the men to return to their posts and walks inside. You follow him, having to stoop at every doorpost. The guards inside are suspicious, but a man covered in mud with an 8 foot tall armoured giant behind him has a way of rendering even the bravest men speechless, and you pass through to the Baron’s “Throneroom” without issue.

You can hear the baron arguing with someone as you draw closer.

“For the last time, I will not allow you to go until that idiot captain returns! It’s too dangerous!”

“Too dangerous for your cowardly backside more like! You’d run from a halfling with a butter knife, Wenzel!

“VON Wenzel!”

“Let me go and I’ll actually use your stupid honorific!”

It is then that you and Captain Johann enter the room. It is a large, rather extravagantly decorated chamber, with a roaring fireplace at one end. At the opposite side to the door is the Baron’s seat, the man himself sitting in it, grey haired and red faced, staring intently at a small, bearded… thing. The thing turns around at the wet slopping of Johann’s boots and practically jumps in the air.

“Grimnir’s beard, what is THAT?”

You could ask it the same question. It is small, and your first impression is of a bushy beard with arms and legs. You’ve never seen anything like it before. It seems to have the same features as a human, but squished. Or… you’ve heard of something similar. A species of abhuman. What were they called? Squats, that was it. What is one of them doing here?

You only have a moment to wonder before the Baron speaks.

“Johann? What in the name of Sigmar is that?”

What will you do?
>Introduce yourself to the Baron.
>Ask the squat what it is doing here.
>Let Johann do the talking.

Ah God, the Nostalgia is strong with that introduction, and I am ALL FOR IT! SUMMON THE ELECTOR COUNTS!

This is definetly going to be fun, hopefully we will be able to explore more of the lands around the old world, and look into helping out the empire of man and its allies against everyone and everything trying to destroy it as the End Times approach. Granted, I don't thik we want to turn this into a super competent force that destroys Archaon with 20th century WWI artillery, but maybe finally getting that Industrial revolution going, with what technology we can scavenge from our remaing lost brothers and broken ship, we can put them along the way before technologically before the end of the quest and a slow future epilogue on our future actions in turning Mallus into a galactic planet of its own because of our actions.

Besides all of that excitement, Im glad to see we are in deed in the Empire, presumably in Reikland because of the Recognition of both Franz's name, it being somewhat forested but not that badly, and there's just a random duke in the area governing a small town (really just a more sturdy Village) we probably landed in Reikland. Considering who we are next too, I wanna talk to the dwarf first, but since theres a duke right in front of us, and since I'm not entirely sure if the dwarf is a slayer or not, I'm sticking with introducing to the duke first, with a great emphasis on not being a spawn of evil from the stars sent to kill them all.
>Introduce yourself to the Baron. Emphasis your origin as a knight of the star sent to kill all that is evil and unnatural for the good of the galaxy.

You lean over to Johann.

>How should I refer to the baron and his companion?

“Oh, of course sir knight! This is Baron Joachim von Wenzel, and that’s Gnorri Ironhide, a trader from Karak Kadrin.”

You nod. You don’t know what Karak Kadrin is, but you assume it’s a place with more squats. Stepping forward, you bow to the baron, for though those of the Imperium know to respect one of His Angels, you are in a new land, and they have no idea of the horrors you have fought and slain. Perhaps you will introduce him to the Imperium and faith in the God-Emperor, but for now a simple introduction will do.

>I am Gurnemanz Thule, of the Knights Celestial. A warrior from lands beyond yours, I fell here from the sky, and landed just outside your town. I and my battle-brothers were born to defend humanity from all the evils that may beset it; the alien, mutant, and heretic. I am an angel of death, and it is my duty to exterminate the foes of mankind. Only in death does my duty end.

You step back, and the baron looks at you curiously, and, you think, a little greedily too. Ignoring the thought, you turn to the squat.

>And greetings to you, trader Ironhide. I have never met your kind before, so you are new to me.

He smiles, and strokes his beard. “I’ve never seen anything like you before either, Sir Gurnemanz. I know of several of my kin who would be fascinated to speak to you and examine your armour, if you don’t mind me saying. If you have time, you should make a journey to Zhufbar, one of my people’s holds, which is south of here.”

“How did you come here?” The suspicious voice of the baron rings out.

You turn to him, and explain, with some omissions, your landing on the planet as your ship broke up in the sky. Gnorri seems particularly interested by your tale. Careful to not reveal too much of the Imperium until you have some understanding of this world’s people and resources, you tell them of your journey, fighting the enemy ceaselessly with your battle-brothers, until they overwhelmed your Fortress-Monastery and you were forced to flee, eventually landing here, far away from all you know.

As you finish a man comes bursting into the room, but is struck dumb when he lays eyes on you. Everyone turns to look at him, and it takes him a few moments to realise he came here to deliver a message, instead of stare at the metal giant. He gulps, and kneels in front of the baron before launching into a rapid report, his eyes flicking over to you involuntarily as he speaks.

“Baron von Wenzel! We’ve got trouble! Peasants have just arrived from the road, seeking aid! The comets have provoked the greenskins and beastmen, and they’re pouring out of the forests! They can’t hold them back m’lord, they’re completely rabid! What are your commands?”

Johann is picking his nose, probably unwise given the amount of mud he’s covered in, but you’ve seen worse on hiveworlds. “We’ll have to send out the guard then. What villages are under attack?”

“Hutznord and Sudenhutz!”

Johann shakes his head. “Hmm. That’s no good. They’re on opposite sides of the river. We can’t defend both. Or…” And at this he looks at you with a glimmer in his eye. “We could get our friend here to help us out, given his noble mission. Yes, we-

“You’ll do no such thing!”

All eyes turn to the baron. You frown. You know that tone. It is the tone of a fool used to getting his way.

The messenger is shocked. “M’lord?”

“I said you will do no such thing! The guard will stay here. What if they attack us while they’re gone? No, they must keep this town safe at all costs! And if you disobey me, Johann, I will have your head!”

Johann grimaces and walks to the baron. “My lord…”

“Your head!”

The squat shakes his head. “Morr forsake you, Baron Wenzel, you’re the worst kind of coward.”

The baron retorts with a laugh. “But he does not have me yet, Gnorri. You would do well to remember that. And you.” He points at you. “You would do well to remain here. I don’t want that Johann getting any ideas. We’ll figure out what to do with you come morning, when the greenskins and beastmen return to their hovels.

You clench your firsts. You are beginning to hate this pathetic man. But, you think to yourself, he is only a man. You think that if Johann was backed up by a warrior like you, he could disobey this cowardly baron.

What shall you do?
>Obey. You should not anger the local authorities, not yet. You must learn all you can about this place first.

Orkz are a known factor to us and incredibly dangerous for humans to deal with at this tech-level. As for beastmen, Gurnemanz would likely think they're mutants, which are both more and less, but he couldn't be certain. Best to fight what we know, for now.

Besides, they are less dangerous then a warband of the more monstrous Beastmen, which technically as an Imperial Gurn might know a bit about since they do exist in 40k in chaos and some distant imperial guard abhuman regiments, but thats about it.

weird in how that xenocide question is put, but no worries Aurebesh, anything at all once per day is more then a great many quests on /qst/ can argue is something they can have in this day and age.

In regard to the locals faith, probably do the same thing all missionary's do, ask around and learn about the locale faiths, there creeds, there histories, and which ones are the easiest to incorporate as angels, or subordinate faiths to the one true God. Works every time before, and considering just how 1v1 you can argue Sigmar and the Emperor's position as God amongst God's of the cosmos, you can argue something like Sigmar was a servant of the Emperor sent from on down to fulfill the emperor's dream of all mankind, a world united against the forces of evil, ready to stand shoulder with his enemy against the greater evil, while pushing forwards the power of humanity in its ingenuity with alliances he made with the sq-AHEM, Dawi, to help bring Humanity out of the wilderness and into the graces of civilization and all of its wonderous ways in killing your foes and granting providence to your fellow humans. There's probably more that could be linked into trying to get into the missionary work on spreading the faith, but this is the first steps I would argue we should focus on so as to avoid making an incorrect judgement and having it come back and bite us in the ass as a result.

whoops

>plans
Probably we want to run right now toward the first village, and see if the orks are already on it. We are a marine so we can counter-attack with fury, or with whatever approach our chapter as for war.

If the orks are not yet there attacking the village, then we can rally and order the villagers first in the most protective building. I don't think they can leave fast enough the settlement. Never mind pass the river on their own. Then simply tell the man to get tools and form ranks while we attract the greenskins upon us, and force them on a chokepoint (between some village buildings probably). The reason mostly for avoid they kill humans.

>faith
Plans for faith are eh. It depends on our guy, it makes an hell of a difference knowing more about the Knights Celestial in this case. Different geneseeds and philosophies create different approaches. Not all chapters even think the emperor is a god, despite all this time, and there is the walking bomb of him actually understanding there are real gods here that are not chaos. That changes things, big relevation. Funniest thing is that he can't even say they are evil like chaos.

F8739J4B idea is probably a good way to go about it. Though Gurnemanz will probably want to get a grasp on the religions as a whole before starting his attempt to convert. Its a bit obvious for example, that other realms will go "nuh-uh our head of our pantheon is not sigmar but (insert Ursun, Lady, Myrmidia etc..)", so using Sigmar would only work for the Empire. The religious argument will need to be adapted.

And Gurnemanz might have other duties to attend too like bringing war to the foes of men. Perhaps starting a military group around him could be an idea, could be a way for him to indoctrinate some people as well.

Muskat’s whiskers twitched. The crater was not glowing. No no, it was not glowing, it was smoking. This was not good. He could not smell anything, except for burnt man-things, but they had done that, not the crater. His fellow clan-rats were walking about, pawing anything they could off the townspeople, anything that wasn’t burnt that is. They had seen the sky-thing come down, oh yes, but it had landed near man-things and they would take it, sell it, steal it away, no no no, cannot let them do that. Not supposed to come out, not yet, must wait, yes yes, but sky-thing could be witch-stone, tasty stone, cannot let man-things have it. And so they had poured out and attacked them.

Man-things had not fought too hard. A little too easy. Let the fire get out of control. They were supposed to fight it. But then the town burned down and all the man-things had died or fled. Many clan-rats dead too, but less than man-things. Exchanged for wyrdstone. But now there was no wydstone! Muskat was disappointed. Had wanted to taste it. But there was none, no no!

Only small bits of metal, and they tasted like metal too. Pah. Muskat was looking through the sky-metal and there was nothing. Nothing! Nothing but some boxes with an eagle thing on them. And what was in those boxes? More metal! Round-things. He had bit into those too. They did not taste nice.

There were lots of these round-things. They all looked the same too. Muskat wondered. He picked one up. Yes yes, the same as the other ones. But they all had rings attached to them, and metal prongs. Bumpy too. What did they do? Why were they all the same? Muskat tugged, and the ring came out. What was this? Was it a toy? He tried to put it back in.

Seconds later, Muskat, and the entire pallet of grenades that had fallen from the sky blew up, and the Skaven retreated to their hovels, cursing the sky-things that had tricked them. The story was told to other clan-rats, and then to other clans, and somewhere, Skaven began to listen and thought curiously about these things from the sky…

This man disgusts you. His positiongrants him the privilege of cowardice, and you have known far too many of the type through your long years of service. But this is not the Imperium, where insult to a planetary governor will call down the wrath of the Administratum or Inquisition. No, this is a place which has not known the moribund hierarchy of the Imperium, or felt the wrath of a Space Marine. What can this little man do to you?

Harming him would be too easy.

>Baron Wenzel, I think a demonstration is in order. Of what you may ask? Of the courage and strength of a member of the Knights Celestial. I feel that you do not understand what I am truly capable of.

You see hanging over the fireplace a shield, and crossed swords behind it. An heirloom perhaps, or a badge of office. It doesn’t matter. It is doubtless precious to the baron, not for any sentimental or historical reasons, but solely because it is his. You walk over to it and take the shield down, the baron protesting but not calling for his guards, not yet. You bite into the shield, crunching down on the polished metal, and leaving everyone in the room dumbstruck. And then you spit the piece of corroded metal to the floor, the smoking lump burning a hole in the sumptuous carpet. Baron Wenzel opens and closes his mouth like a fish, but no sound comes out. And then you put your helmet back on, the light hiss of the seals sliding into place the only sound in the room, other than the warm crackling of the fire. You look at Johann, and point to both him and the messenger.

”Come with me.”

And with Johann in tow, mud still dripping off him, you walk out of the room.

Where are the two villages under attack?

“Down opposite ways of the road, my lord. Sudenhutz down the left, Hutznord to the right.”

Johann is more muted now, more serious, now that there are people under attack. And maybe he too is in shock at the sight he just witnessed. You must admit, there are few reasons to demonstrate that particular ability of a Space Marine to mortals. You allow yourself to smile a little beneath your helmet. You turn to the messenger, his eyes wide as he follows this giant that fell from the sky.

”Which village are the greenskins attacking?”

“Sudenhutz, my lord.”

”Very well. I shall go there and exterminate them. Johann. Take your men to Hutznord and drive these beastmen away.”

Johann looks shocked. “My lord? The baron has forbidden me and-

”You will go and slay them. These people need protecting. If the baron thinks of harming you he will have me to answer to.”

And with that you begin to sprint off, exiting the walled town in only a few moments, taking the left road and drawing your sword. You blood is rushing as you feel the thrill of impending combat. The dark tress are a blur as you easily follow the road with your enhanced vision, the moon of this world hanging dimly over the horizon. In only a few minutes you cross kilometres, and you begin to hear the cry of men and foul orks upon the air. And then you see it, the village, parts of it already on fire and figures running to and fro as the orks rush at them with their guttural cries. The men of the village are barricaded behind some overturned carts, carrying sharp farming implements, one or two sporting a spear or a sword, while the orks try to clamber over. But these are little more than gretchins! You are almost disappointed. But there are several men already lying on the ground in widening pools of liquid reflecting the glow of the burning houses behind them, and the main defences seem like they will not hold against this rabble.

And then you see them. The orks. Proper ones, larger than a man, wielding crude and cruel instruments. The leaders of this raid. They are clearly feral, not a scrap of technology on them, but even those may be dangerous. Unfortunately for them, you have slain countless of their brethren on countless worlds, and they soon will feel the bite of your sword. They are standing back, not participating in the fight, merely laughing and pointing at the puny defence of the mortals.

You ignite the power sword, and a crackling, buzzing sound rings out through the night as your blade is covered in a hazy blue field. The orks hear it and some turn to you.

“IT’S A BIG GIT!”

Some of the smaller ones run off in fright, but more come running towards you, and you rush to slay them until a bolt of light rushes out of the night and hits you in the chest. It does not knock you over, but a normal man would have had his chest crushed. They have a weirdboy then. If only you had a ranged weapon to deal with this annoyance…

What shall you do?

You will hunt the weirdboy. Even in the best of circumstances psykers are dangerous, and with orks you must factor in their chaotic, unplanned nature into the equation. If that blast you were hit with was all it could do then you will have little to worry about, but you suspect it did not know what you were capable of; and now it will know you are a more dangerous foe than usual. If you had a bolter than it would be a simple matter, finding it and blowing its head off, but you must make do with what you have. However, an idea comes into your head, and you pick up one of the pitchforks lying by a corpse. Yes, this will do nicely.

So with your power sword in one hand and the pitchfork in another, you cut past the small gretchins that throw themselves at you and run into the darkness of the forest. The orks here are thick, scrambling over each other for a good fight. But the slaughter is easy, your blade easily slicing through the orkish horde, leaving their corpses sizzling on the ground. They do not yet realise that they cannot hope to penetrate your armour, what few weapons that do manage to land a hit bouncing uselessly off the battle-worn ceramite.

You do not know how the humans are holding out, and hope that they can hold on until you slay this weirdboy. It is hard hunting him. He flits through the darkness, throwing bolts of light at you, sometimes strange green feet that you easily dodge while it crushes orks and trees alike as more packs of orks jump on top of you, which are quickly dispatched by your sword or simply crushed beneath your boots, green gore starting to run up to your knees and running down your helmet. Some start to realise the futility of the conflict and run into the night, but many are still coming at you for a good scrappin’, yelling their species wide battle cry, WAAAAAGGH. You grin. This is too easy.

It's then that you see him. Or, the glow of the spell he is casting, bright green and writhing with energy around his hand as he raises a giant bone club into the air. You raise the pitchfork and throw it at the same time he releases the spell.

Roll 1d100+10 (+10 from the pitchfork) Bo3, DC 40.

Also feel free to come up with the Celestial Knight's colours, hearldry, and battle cry.

The pitchfork flies straight and true. It impales the weirdboy through the chest, the force of the makeshift spear carrying him along with it and pinning the ork to a tree. He howls out in pain, green lightning shooting from his fingertips and incinerating a few unlucky orks nearby, while the spell he cast your way explodes in a flash of green, leaving the orks who did not manage to dodge it covered in a plasticky green substance that keeps them frozen in place. You, however, are already cutting your way through to the weirdboy, your free hand now swinging into orkish skulls, sending xenos bone and viscera flying with each hit. Their howls are becoming more desperate and hurt than joyful, and they turn to outright fright when you swing your power sword and neatly decapitate a group of gretchins who thought they could gang up on you from behind.

The weirdboy is still alive when you reach him. Unlucky for him. He is trying desperately to pull the pitchfork from his chest, the green blood pouring from his wounds flowing quicker as he does. His eyes widen when your shadow looms over him, and they go blank when with a single brief cut you relieve his head from his body. The headless body contorts for a few moments more before going still, smoke sizzling from the neck. But the slaying does not stop, the orks and gretchins going mad at the death of their weirdboy, hurling themselves upon you and banging at your armour with their crude implements. But they cannot pierce your Mechanicus-crafted ceramite, and you wade through them, your sword crackling with energy as the handle runs slick with orkish blood, helmet working overtime to clean the gore from your lenses. You stomp on the smaller ones or send them flying with a kick, punching through ribcages and crushing heads with your fist.

[POV Shift]

Otto was on the barricade when the Giant came. Well, it was not a giant, they said they grew larger than a lord’s house, and that was very large, but the thing that came running from the road was smaller than that, but it still seemed like a giant to Otto. It was covered in metal plate, and its eyes glowed red, and it moved so quickly it was hard to keep track of. Otto and the rest of the men thought it was another monster come to kill them, but no, it had held a sword that glowed blue, and started slaughtering the orks, cutting through them like they were mere shadows in the night.

The ork shaman had thrown a bolt at it then, and they despaired, but it did nothing to the giant. The magic which had reduced Otto’s friends to pulp, thrown them against a tree where they did not get up had not harmed this thing, it had only enraged it! It had picked up poor Emil’s pitchfork, and rushed into the darkness of the trees. The orks still came at them, but as they fought them they could see the blue outline of the giant’s blade jumping and sweeping between the trees, and the howls of the goblins as they died. It moved so fast like it was magic, and they thought it must be, for the shaman was throwing bolt and flame at the giant, briefly illuminating the bulk of this armoured thing but never touching it. And then they saw the shaman building up his power for a spell that would surely obliterate it, but the armoured giant threw Emil’s pitchfork and got it through the chest just as it released all its energy. They cheered, and were encouraged, and all at once charged over the barricades at the greenskins, who had never seen the peasants do such a thing before. This was not a fair fight. The humies were fighting back! Bloody gits! Woz they thinkin? Deyz ain’t supposed to fight back!

The slaughter is in full swing when you hear the humans shouting, and for a moment you fear that they have been overwhelmed, your efforts in vain. But as more orks run past you in fear you realise that they have mounted a counter attack, and are somehow succeeding. In only a few short moments you have killed the orks around you, and the humans have pushed up to your position.

“Sigmar bless you, whatever you are! The greenskins are running, and the village is saved!”

There are corpses everywhere and several houses on fire, but you hold your tongue.

“We could not have done it without you! With their shaman dead they won’t sneak up on us again! Thank you! From where did you come from?”

“I came from Hutzheim. I… arrived there only recently, and left as soon as I heard the village was under attack.”

The villagers seem a little shocked at this, since you came so quickly, but they don’t question it.

“We have nothing to give you, sir, but you have our eternal gratitude!”

[+1 Renown!]

What shall you do next?

>Leave the villagers to rebuild and recover and return to Johann, he may need your help.
>Remain here to help the villagers save a few of their paltry homes. Maybe you can even teach them about the God-Emperor.
>The village will not be safe while the orks remain in the forest. Hunt down the rest of them and purge them.

Ah man, I missed out on a really nice discussion going on about the knights, personally im more for the proposed heraldry of >>6270529, as it really is a good set of what a Celestial armour with complementary colours while leaning into there complementary colour scheme. But im not against the Black and Gold idea, Im a sucker for that art style, and its a very good short battle cry, but i'm not entirely sure if the strength in Iron part makes much sense without some context to what chapter we hail from, either as a moment of signigiance to the chapter as a whole, or from the company we hailed from when shit went sideways and we crash landed on mars (yes companies can have seperate battle-crys from the chapter as a whole, its a battle-cry, nobody is going to shame you for shouting something that isn't terriably employed by either your chapter, or company as a whole, hell I remember a short story where a squad of exorcists had a battle-cry only for themselves when they charged into a pack of cultists of a space hulk.)

Moving on from that discussion, question Aurebesh but what exactly is Renown, how can we get more of it, is more of it good or bad, and what are some examples of what it represents at certain numbers, say a renown of 10 versus 20 or the like, and will we also have opportunities to lose it just as well as we have chances at gaining it? Im not very well aware of what renown as a game system is, so I'm curious to see if it is a benefit we would like to get whenever the opportunity presents itself or not.

“I must be going. There is another village under attack this night, from beastmen.”

The villagers pale at the word, and shudder. They are evidently familiar with these xenos, or what you assume are xenos. You will find out soon.

“You must burn the greenskin corpses. They reproduce through spores from their bodies.”

The villagers look queerly at you, but don’t question it. You evidently know more about the foul creatures than they. Though you doubt their fires will match the ferocity of holy promethium, it will be better than nothing.

“Very well Sir Knight. Sigmar’s blessings be with you!”

You will have to correct these people’s childish delusions about gods, but that must come later. For now, you bid farewell to the villagers of Sudenhutz and go running off to the North, back the way you came. Your helmet readout shows you at 60km/h, a good speed. You wish you had a bike, or even one of the vehicles that the Guard use, but you will have to make do with your armour. You soon pass the town of Hutzheim, a shout going up by the sentries at the gate, but you ignore them. You doubt they have ever seen anything move so fast.

Soon you come to the river, not even a bridge crossing it, but it is shallow, and you are soon on the other side. You run onwards, following the road, little better than a path, and then you are in hilly country with rolling fields illuminated by the pale moonlight, and smoke on the horizon. You can see the glow of fire when you come across them. A small band of inhuman things, which have arms and legs and a head, and there the resemblance with humanity ends. They are covered in fur, or leathery skin, and wear all manner of crude implements upon their wretched hides. Their snouts are elongated like animals, and several have thick horns protruding from their heads. They see you coming, and scream and bay out words in what must be some forsaken tongue, spit and sweat flying through the air, waving weapons only slightly more intelligent in design than the orks. The Beastmen.

There are about 50 of them, and you barrel into the first without slowing down. His corpse lands several meters away, and the others behind him are crushed beneath your boots. And then your sword is humming, weaving through the beasts like thunder. They do not cower from you like the orks, nor are they as desperate. They come at you like a pack, moving on instinct and striking when they see an opening, and if you were a mortal you would indeed be in trouble. But you are no mortal, you are one of His Space Marines, and if some pack of wild animals could tear down the mightiest of His warriors then the Imperium would have fallen millenia ago. But they cannot harm you, and you tear into them with a ferocity that no foe they have ever fought has shown.

In only a few short minutes you are surrounded by 50 corpses, and covered in gore. You run on to the village immediately, and arrive to find it surrounded by armed men. A muddy, and bloody, figure quickly waves to you and runs over. It is Johann.

“Greetings my friend!”

No mortal has ever called you his friend before.

“You have arrived just in time! The village has been saved, and we are about to go hunting for the last pack that attacked it!”

“No need. I slew them on my way here.”

“Oh! That is a good thing indeed! All of them?”

You nod. “All 50.”

Some of the men nearby gasp, while others point at the blood and matted fur that coat your armour. You tell Johann that you have just come from Sudenhutz and that it too is safe. He smiles and taps you on the shoulder, standing on his tiptoes to do it.

“This is a good night! Let us return to Hutzheim then, we must celebrate this victory!”

He leaves some of his men behind to guard the village, and take care of the burials. He lost some men in its defence, but they were victorious, and you cleaned up the last of the monsters from the forest. He tells you about them on the road to Hutzheim, these foul things that live in the woods preying on mankind. They are, you learn, not Xenos but mutants, foul things that no scholar quite knows the origin of. You nod and tell him solemnly that you will have to exterminate them, and he smiles and agrees that if anyone could, it would be you.

Soon you are at the gates of Hutzheim, where Gnorri Ironhide is waiting. He looks anxious, and upon seeing you approach he rushes over.

“Lad, you best get going. The Baron has it out for you.”

Johann merely shrugs. “We are victorious, and the villages are saved. What can the Baron do?”

“The Baron is furious! I tried to reason with him, but he’s put out an arrest warrant for you Johann! And you!”

He looks up at you, and if he cranes his back any further he’ll fall over.

“He didn’t say anything about you. But he’ll be mighty pissed if he sees you, Grimnir smite me if I’m wrong!”

This is trouble. The Baron is being even more of a nuisance than you thought he was. Johann merely shrugs his shoulders and laughs.

“Why! He really is a complete fool after all. I should go meet him then, shouldn’t I? Want to come along Mr. Gurnemanz? You have your promise to protect me after all. This should be fun.”

And with that he strides off confidently towards the Baron’s mansion, not even looking backward to see if you’re following him.

What is your plan for the Baron?
>Threaten the Baron. Men like him usually don’t see reason unless it’s at the point of a sword.
>See if you can’t make the Baron see reason. It would be better for all of you if he goes along willingly.

May as well go for the action that forces a man to reevaluate your position of power when a 8ft tall mountain of metal covered and drenched in blood, gore, and mattered fur with organs on him comes over to you and starts to act threatening to you because you acted like a coward and a asshole towards the people that gave a shit anout defending the villages that are your fucking job to protect in the first place.

>What makes gods like Ulric and Verena any more "real" than the Chaos gods, C'tan or Old Ones?
I said he would blow a gasket when he understood the pagan things he sees around are all real, not that they are more real than others.
(Also he wouldn't know about the Old Ones, beside those are not even gods just very advanced. Probably the same for the C'tan).

The point is that he doesn't believe any Sigmar, Morr or what not are anything more than just the usual pagan deity of a feudal/feral world that is not real, that can't influence things and that can be easily replaced (despite him not being a missionary he already believes that the belief of the God Emperor can easily replace the "pagan" faiths). Things like Slaanesh, Khorne and what not instead exist for him, they are tangible, they are a real threat, they send demons, have cultists, corrupt etc..

But Sigmar, Morr and what not instead are not like pagan deities of primitive worlds. They bless weapons, influence events, aid their followers, do miracles and so on. All stuff that the pagan faiths of feudal and feral worlds Gurnemanz encountered in the past, certainly don't do.

The Gods of Mallus are largely deified heroes, the God Emperor of Mankind simply takes precedence above them all. We aren't a Chaplain here to sort them out on details, we just need to make it clear that the God Emperor Himself (PBUH) empowers us & is the mightiest of all the Gods.

My proposal:
>Threaten the Duke, not just with our presence, but with the inevitability of the common man rising up against him if he continues to show cowardice
>Offer up a solution; the remnants of the Orks must be hunted down, thus if he should lead his men on a hunt for them & order us to lead the charge & guard him on the battlefield, we would be compelled to comply as it is our duty to Mankind

The baron is a COWARD! He is deserving of your HATRED! KILL HIM!

Hmm, but killing him outright might turn the people against you. Getting Johaan to replace the baron with an obedient puppet is much more useful. Plan this out carefully, and things could go very well indeed.

Well, there's no need to be hasty and jump to violence so soon. The baron and these people are all children of the Imperium, whether they know it or not. Settle this like a family matter by talking it out first. Even if it goes badly, it doesn't matter; you're so durable that they can't even hurt you.

YOU are the hero! YOU saved the day! The baron wouldn't dare to actually punish you. Use that leverage, and convince him with words. See who else will listen to your amazing ideas.

>See if you can’t make the Baron see reason. It would be better for all of you if he goes along willingly.

You know the kind of man the Baron is. Affluent and comfortable in their position, forgetting they live in a world beyond their pampered courts. People who expect that even their most frivolous whims will be obeyed without question. You have met many of them on worlds far beyond this one, corrupting humanity in a way almost as insidious as that of chaos. They have been responsible for the fall of many worlds, arrogance and pride making them blind to the realities around them. You know the Baron will not budge unless he is made to. But you will make him move, or crush him.

“I will go with him, trader Ironhide. The Baron must be taught a lesson.”

The squat nods. “Very well. Grungni be with you both.”

You follow after Johann, not bothering to clean the gore from your armour. It should have an effect when you hold him at the point of your sword. Johann wipes some of the mud off his uniform as he approaches, taking care to throw it at the mansion’s windows, and rubbing it all over the door. You follow as he enters, and observe the man happily striding through the mansion’s corridors, taking deliberate care to rub his muddy hands on as many items and paintings as he can.

“This should be fun, Sir Gurnemanz! Truth be told, he’s a hard man, and I’ve wanted to stick it to him for ages! Let’s see him try to bully his way around with you here, haha!”

And with that he pushes on the doors to the baron’s meeting chamber, whistling some country ditty as he does so. You stay back, in the shadows of the antechamber. The baron jumps to his feet as soon as he sees Johann, pointing at the man and shouting so violently you can see spittle fly. You see there are four well armoured men within the room in polished armour, standing to attention on opposite sides of the room.

“There he is! Guards! Arrest that man!”

“You will do no such thing.”

You stride into the room, the guards flinching as you emerge from the shadows of the doorway. They grip their weapons with white knuckles, but they do not move any closer to Johann. All eyes in the room are on you, except Johann, who is making himself comfortable by sitting on a particularly sumptuous couch in his muddy uniform, and grinning. You sword is still in your scabbard, but the Baron and his guards can see that you are covered in the blood and giblets of orks and beastmen. Still, the Baron holds his ground.

“What? What are you doing here? Get out! This doesn’t concern you.”

“It does. You will not lay a hand on Johann while I am here.”

The Baron’s face, at first a little pale and covered in grey stubble, turns purple. His hands begin to shake.

“Nonsense! He has disobeyed my direct orders! Abandoned his post! Dereliction of duty! He is to be punished according to the laws of the land! And you will not interfere!”

You resist the urge to relieve him of his head, for now. Instead you stride closer to the Baron, the guards making no move to stop you.

“He has saved an entire village. You will do best to appreciate that. Rescind the order for his arrest. Now.”

“I. Will. Not!”

You draw your sword and point it at the baron, not even bothering to energise it. Not for this pathetic excuse of a man. The baron’s guards gasp but still have not moved. You think you hear Johann chuckle.

“Yes you will.”

Sweat is pouring all over his face, but there is a hardness in his eyes. He is shaking now, and you are not sure if it is with fear or anger. Is he really going to resist you?

Sweat rolls down the Baron’s face, and his breathing becomes rapid. He wants to give the order. You can see it, the calculations in his eyes, figuring out whether or not you will go through with your threat. But after a few moments the light goes out of them and he deflates, sinking back into his chair with a heavy sigh. As you suspected. A coward at heart. He waves his hand feebly, not even meeting your eye.

“Johann is… free to go.”

You hear a hurrah from Johann, who springs up from his chair, walks up to the Baron, and vigorously shakes his hand, slathering it in dirt. The Baron pulls his hand back and you think he’s wants to slap Johann, but he looks at you a moment, shudders, and lowers it. Good. The dog knows his place. With a twinkle in his eye Johann turns to you, reaches up and taps you on the shoulder, then cheerily walks out the door.

You follow him outside, where the moon is hanging high above. You take off your helmet and take a deep breath. Rarely do you get the chance to breathe on a world with such fresh air, the scent of old oak and spruce mixed with woodsmoke filling your nostrils, none of the traces of industrial fuel or heavy metal on so many worlds of the Imperium to be found. You look at Johann.

>What now?

He grins. “Bedtime! But, my apologies, I don’t think we have any rooms that would fit you, or beds. Hm.”

>My physiology means I can sleep standing up. Do not worry. I have no need of comfort, for I rest easy knowing our enemy has been slain this day.

Johann raises his eyebrows. “Well! Sleep easy then, uh, wherever you want. I will see you in the morning!”

You bid him farewell as he waves at you, then wanders off to wherever he lives. Moving towards the main gate, you find a statue of a man with a hammer on a stone plinth, and sit upon it, resting your sword across your knees. Though it is unlikely that anything will attack the town tonight after all your slaying, it is good to remain vigilant, for the enemies of the Emperor and humanity never tire, and neither do you. Your eyes do not close as you let the Catalepsean Node do its work, shutting down most parts of your brain and letting your body rest after the events of the day.

You are awoken by a stone pinging off your armour. Immediately roused to full consciousness you hear a small child shout in fear and the running of several feet nearby as you move your head. It is morning, and there are more sounds throughout the town as it comes awake. A cock begins crowing as people open their windows and greet each other in the street. The townspeople try not to stare at you as they go about their business, but there is a small crowd brewing and you are wondering what to do when Johann arrives.

His uniform is clean for once, but his bright smile has not disappeared.

“Sir Gurnemanz! Good morning! The Baron is sulking in his mansion today, haha! More’s the pity for him. But what are your plans for today?”

You don’t know. What will you do now that there’s no immediate crisis? You should probably learn more about this world you’ve landed upon.

>Where can I learn more about this Empire of yours, and the surrounding lands?

“Ah! Yes, you will want to know where you are, by Sigmar! Well-

There’s that name again. You wonder who or what it might refer to.

>Sigmar?

Johann smiles. “The patron god of the Empire. He founded the Empire and we are all in his shadow, and you, uh, quite literally. I’m not very pious myself but you can go to the chapel and talk to Brother Klaus, the priest there if you want to learn more. He was quite excited with all the comets lately.”

You nod. It would be useful to learn about the local religion. If only to determine how difficult it will be for the Ecclesiarchy to take hold here.

“And for the rest of the Empire, well, it’s the Baron’s job to know, but I get the feeling he won’t be happy to talk to you anytime soon. That leaves me, and while I don’t know the latest goings on in Altdorf I can tell you about the local province and everything else, especially the threats we face.”

You nod. That would be useful, especially if you plan to eventually lead them against whatever greenskins and other mutants inhabit the lands. This Empire could prove to be a strong base of operations for conquering the rest of the planet, or even the development of a way to contact the Imperium.

“Oh! There is also trader Gnorri. I confess I have only been as far as Bechafen, and don’t know much about what’s outside the borders. But he’s been everywhere, the Dwarfen holds, Bretonnia, Kislev, all of it. I think he was going to look at your impact crater today, so you should find him on top of the hill outside town.”

Ah goody, the man backed down and realized just who and what we are in the power sphere between the two of us. Not likely going to get much from either man or dwarf as netiher are loremasters of there people, but then again maybe Gotri as verture as a dwarf has much longer knowledge and details as a trader can as such say as much or indeed even more then Johann and give us a small rundown of both foreign nations, but also some of there quirks and history, maybe even the Karaz Ankor if he's feeling nice. Surprised we didn't see or feel the giant fuck off evil green-moon in the sky while we were going to sleep, nor that we were unaffected by its rays if this wasn't one of those, powerful enough to almost be Geheimnistag on those nights in the year when it could show up.

>Walk with me Johann. I will talk to Gnorri, but I would appreciate you telling me what you can about this “Empire” on the way there.

“Oh of course, Sir Gurnemanz! The Baron would usually be upset at me not waiting upon his every command, but I think this time he won’t mind my absence.”

He gives you a wink and waves some guards over to give them some instructions for dealing with the Baron. He then accompanies you through the main gate and towards the hill, where you can see an ugly scar running across the green grass and some people milling about. Your eyes easily pick out the diminutive figure of Gnorri. On the way, Johann tells you about the Empire of Man.

“The first thing you must know about is Sigmar. You were sleeping by his statue last night. We worship him now, but many, many years ago he was a Man. He unified the empire, mostly by conquest, defeated many greenskins and beastmen, and became its first Emperor. I call him a man, but in truth, there have been no men like him since, if even half the stories are true. He ruled for several years, wielding the mighty Warhammer Ghal-Maraz against our foes, before disappearing without a trace, and ever since we have revered him as the god of the Empire.”

You tilt your head at that. The man doesn’t know the finer theology, but it seems like a legend ripe for exploitation. Yes, if you were so inclined, you imagine it would only be a matter of declaring this Sigmar to be an incarnation of the God-Emperor, and you as one of His Angels, and you would have the power of the religion at your disposal. It might prove useful in influencing these people, or then again it might make you an enemy of their church. You will have to investigate more at some point.
You say nothing as Johann continues.

“So, Sigmar left. But then he had no heir, and who was going to rule over the Empire after him? There was a lot of bickering, but eventually it was worked out that the rulers of the provinces, the counts, would elect one of their own to the Imperial Throne. So they became the Elector-Counts! And that is how our rulers are chosen today, the Elector-Counts are summoned when the previous Emperor dies, and they pick one to become the new Emperor. But the rest of the provinces still have all their positions inherited, which is how we get such courageous and generous men like our Baron Wenzel.”

He chuckles to himself as you walk through the main gate. There are people coming and going as you do, and they take a moment to stop and stare at your bulky figure as you walk through the stone archway. Some shy away from you, looking at you with naked fear and suspicion, while others are struck with awe and stare in amazement until you have gone past. Some even reach out to touch your armour, and suddenly jerk back if they have the courage to actually touch the battle-worn ceramite, as if they cannot believe you stand among them. Johann continues his speech without pause.

“So the Elector-Counts rule the provinces of the Empire. But the Emperor rules us all from Altdorf, the mightiest city in the Empire, to the West. We are in Ostermark, one of the easternmost provinces of the empire, and, though the Baron won’t tell you, also one of the shittiest. There is not much here except ancient woods and fields fit for farming, if we could do it safely. There are greenskins and beastmen all through the forests, and more organised tribes of greenskins that come raiding from the mountains to the east, and down south, across the River Stir, is Sylvania, home of the vampires.”

Vampires. What?

“Add on top of that Kislev to the north and-

>What do you mean by Vampires?

Johann glances at you, a bemused look on his face. “You don’t have vampires where you come from, Sir Gurnemanz?”

You’re not sure how to answer that. There are the Blood Angels of course, but they are fellow Astartes and- no, you must not jump to conclusions. You ask Johann what vampires are.

“Why, they are terrifying monsters in human form! They look like normal humans, nothing like yourself, but they are pale skinned, they wield foul magic, and prey on us humans as their food, and it is whispered that they live forever! There are not many of them, but even one is a terrifying monster that can wipe out entire towns in a night. They all live in Sylvania, with their undead servants. I have never seen one, but I think they would struggle against someone like you! So we are very lucky to have you.”

He gives you a cheerful smile but inwardly you are worried. Orks and these mutant beastmen are one thing, but intelligent… abhumans? The way he describes them sounds more like psykers, but psykers are not a species, and they usually don’t live that long. You can only imagine the nightmare that would be if one of these things was found on a hive world. And what’s this about undead?

“Oh, and I forgot to mention, but folk say that they can turn you into one by making you drink their blood or biting your neck.”

You stop in your tracks. Johann doesn’t notice at first, but quickly turns around when he notices the clunking of your armour has stopped. Long-lived human-looking sorcerers that can change others to their kind. You inwardly groan. The Inquisition would have a field day, and planetary-governors would be lining up to be converted. You are going to have to assess the capabilities of this Empire, but if you manage to seize control the first thing you are doing is wiping these mutant-things out.

You shake your head. One step at a time.

>Very well. What about the other provinces in the Empire?

Johann continues his explanation.

“They say that the other provinces are better off, but there are still greenskins and beastmen everywhere. A lot more cities and merchants, they say that city-folk will cheat you out of every coin, and I believe them. Bechafen, our provincial capital, had pickpockets on near every street when I visited! But they have mighty walls and their armies are very, very professional, and they get all the better weapons, like the guns and cannon which you hardly see here.”

>The Empire has guns?

“Oh yes! The Baron has one from Hochland in his private rooms, though he doesn’t let anyone see it. But the Empire has guns at its disposal, though it’s usually the city-folk or richer state-armies that get to use them. A lot are made at Nuln, the big industrial city in Wissenland, which you’ll probably want to visit sometime. They produce a lot of the weapons we use, and they’re always trying to invent better ways to make them or use them. I’ve heard stories of some things they’ve made which must be downright magical, but people swear that it’s only got a little dwarfish help.”

You nod. So things aren’t totally hopeless in this place. The Empire has guns. Now if you could introduce them to tanks and aircraft and artillery, you might be able to create a true fighting force that can conquer this planet. You will have to see if you can visit this Nuln, and Altdorf too and discover what you can about the inner workings of the Empire.

You arrive at the hill, and walking up it you can see Trader Gnorri directing a team of people around the crater you created. It seems like they are trying to lift the piece of debris you landed in. Gnorri catches sight of you and Johann, gives you a wave, and hurries over.

>Perturabo’s Mental AbilitiesPerturabo’s mind is a product of the Emperor’s genetic engineering, designed to make him a master of siegecraft, logistics, and technology. His mental abilities include:Genius-Level Intellect in Engineering and Siegecraft:Perturabo possesses an unparalleled aptitude for engineering, mathematics, and strategic planning, particularly in the art of siege warfare. He can analyze fortifications and complex systems with almost instantaneous precision, identifying weaknesses and devising solutions.
He has a near-eidetic memory for technical schematics and can design or reverse-engineer advanced machinery, from weapons to starships, with minimal resources.
Example: In Angel Exterminatus (Horus Heresy novel), Perturabo demonstrates his ability to construct intricate war machines and unravel alien technology, showcasing a mind that processes vast arrays of technical data effortlessly.

>Strategic and Tactical Acumen:Perturabo’s mind excels at grand strategy and logistics, enabling him to orchestrate campaigns with ruthless efficiency. He can calculate troop movements, supply chains, and battlefield variables with machine-like precision.
Unlike some Primarchs who rely on charisma (e.g., Horus) or martial prowess (e.g., Angron), Perturabo’s strategies are methodical, prioritizing attrition and overwhelming force.
His ability to adapt to any battlefield scenario, from open warfare to protracted sieges, makes him a versatile commander, though he prefers grinding, systematic victories.

>Innate Understanding of Systems and Structures:Perturabo has an almost preternatural ability to “see” the inner workings of systems—whether mechanical, architectural, or societal. This manifests as an intuitive grasp of how things are constructed and how they can be broken.
Lore describes him as perceiving the “sinews” of reality, allowing him to deconstruct and exploit the weaknesses of any structure or mechanism, from fortresses to enemy formations.
This ability borders on psychic but is rooted in his hyper-rational mind rather than Warp-based powers.

>Multitasking and Computational Prowess:Perturabo can process multiple streams of information simultaneously, making him adept at managing complex operations. He can oversee the construction of fortifications, direct battles, and innovate new technologies concurrently.
His mind operates like a supercomputer, capable of running simulations and predicting outcomes with high accuracy, which aids his siege planning.

Perturabo’s Unique PsychologyPerturabo’s psychology is defined by a mix of brilliance, paranoia, and a deep-seated sense of grievance, setting him apart from his brothers. His upbringing on Olympia, a world of political intrigue and betrayal, combined with his innate traits, shaped a personality that is both formidable and tragic.Relentless Perfectionism and Self-Imposed Pressure:Perturabo holds himself to impossibly high standards, driven by a need to prove his worth. Unlike Primarchs like Guilliman (pragmatic) or Sanguinius (inspirational), Perturabo sees every task as a test of his superiority, leading to a perfectionist streak that fuels his achievements but also his discontent.
He believes his contributions are undervalued, particularly compared to Primarchs like Rogal Dorn, whose role as the Emperor’s praetorian overshadows Perturabo’s grueling siege campaigns.

Paranoia and Mistrust:Perturabo’s upbringing on Olympia, where he was surrounded by scheming nobles, instilled a deep mistrust of others, including his brothers and the Emperor. He assumes betrayal is inevitable, which colors his interactions.
This paranoia contrasts with Primarchs like Vulkan (compassionate) or Leman Russ (loyal), making Perturabo prone to isolating himself and relying on his own intellect rather than alliances.
Example: In The Primarchs anthology, Perturabo’s suspicion of his brothers’ motives leads him to sabotage potential collaborations, reinforcing his belief that he alone can be trusted.

Bitterness and Resentment:Perturabo harbors a profound sense of grievance, believing he and his Iron Warriors are given the most thankless, brutal tasks (e.g., protracted sieges) without recognition. This resentment festers, driving his eventual turn to Chaos during the Horus Heresy.
Unlike Horus, whose betrayal stemmed from ambition and manipulation, or Angron, driven by rage, Perturabo’s fall is fueled by a sense of being unappreciated and misunderstood.
His bitterness contrasts with Primarchs like Fulgrim (vain but charismatic) or Ferrus Manus (stoic and duty-bound), making Perturabo uniquely self-destructive.

Cold Rationality and Emotional Repression:Perturabo suppresses his emotions in favor of cold logic, viewing sentiment as a weakness. This contrasts with emotionally driven Primarchs like Sanguinius or emotionally volatile ones like Angron.
However, his repressed emotions manifest as outbursts of rage or sullen withdrawal when his efforts are overlooked, revealing a conflicted inner life.
Example: In Perturabo: The Hammer of Olympia, his stoic exterior cracks when he decimates Olympia after its rebellion, showing the depth of his suppressed pain.

Inferiority Complex and Rivalry: Perturabo feels overshadowed by his brothers, particularly Rogal Dorn, whose Imperial Fists are celebrated for fortification while Perturabo’s Iron Warriors are relegated to breaking them. This rivalry fuels his need to outdo others in feats of engineering and warfare.
Unlike Magnus, whose pride stems from psychic mastery, or Horus, who seeks leadership, Perturabo’s drive is rooted in proving his intellectual superiority to compensate for perceived slights.

Pragmatic Ruthlessness: Perturabo’s psychology embraces a utilitarian approach, willing to sacrifice lives (including his own legionaries) for victory. His decimation of the Iron Warriors (killing one in ten to enforce discipline) reflects this brutal pragmatism, setting him apart from Primarchs like Vulkan, who prioritise humanity, or even Horus, who manipulates rather than discards.
This trait makes him both effective and alienating, as he views soldiers as tools rather than comrades.

Gnorri is walking over as quickly as his stubby legs will allow, the squat’s knee-length beard jumping up and down as he goes, but before he gets to you Johann leans in with an uncharacteristic frown on his face.

“Oh, there’s one more thing. Avoid the city of Mordheim. Dark place, even for you. Few things return, and none of them unchanged.”

>Why? What happened there?

“A fell comet landed on the city. It has been cursed ever since.” He shakes his head and says no more.

Gnorri does not hear any of this conversation and waves cheerily to you as he approaches.

“A good morning to you, lads! I hear you gave the Baron quite a scare, Gurnemanz! Good on ya, that piece of goblin dung deserves a good hiding on the backside, but getting slapped in the face will do.”

>I did not-

“O’ course you didn’t, you’d knock his head clean off, I can tell that much! But I can also tell you he looked like he’d been shouted at by Kurt Helborg himself, haha! Face as pale as a ghoul! Bastard deserves it. I would have done it meself you see, only we’re not allowed to put names in the book over spite. Ah well. Good to see you!”

You only understand some of what the small creature is saying, but it’s clear he’s quite happy with you.

>Greetings to you, Trader Ironhide. What brings you up here?

“Ah, that’d be something to do with you, actually.”

He leads the two of you to the crater, where the piece of debris sits, still smoking in some areas. There are several craftsmen from the town examining it with some other squats who are as equally small and longbearded as Gnorri. Gnorri nods at them.

“These are my boys. None of them a smith, but it’ll be a poor Dawi who doesn’t understand the basics of metallurgy and smithing. We’re trying to figure out what this is, Gurnemanz. Doesn’t look like any Gromril I’ve seen, and none ‘o them ever came with something like you attached. Oh, we’ll have to figure out what to call you too. Definitely not an umgi. Too big, and too scary. Sorry Johann.”

The man at your side merely shrugs. But you don’t understand several of the words the squat just used, none of them seeming to be in high or low gothic.

>Excuse me. But Gromril? Umgi?

The squat nods. “Ah. My apologies. We Dawi speak a different tongue to the Empire. Slips in from time to time.”

>I see. Would you mind telling me more about your people? Johann has already explained some of the Empire to me, but he said that you would know more about the lands beyond this Empire’s borders.

“And he’d be right! I’ve travelled just about everywhere in the Old World. From Kislev to the Border Princes, and Estalia to the World’s Edge Mountains! Come with me and have a drink while I tell you, this work will take awhile and it’d be damn boring without an ale!”

He chuckles to himself and leads you to a cart where another squat is lounging, taking sips from a metal mug much bigger than you would have expected for someone his size. Gnorri fetches a small cask, then roots around some more and retrieves a small bottle and hands it to Johann.

“This’d be for you, so you can join in.”

He then twists the tap and lets the frothy brew pour out into two mugs much like the other squats, and hands one out to you. You take it, and stare at the yellow liquid.

“What’s the matter? You do drink don’t you?”

>I usually do not have a reason to.

He frowns. “It must be a damn boring life without a good ale or beer! Drink up!”

He suddenly lifts the cup to his mouth and holds it there for several seconds, chugging the drink in one go. You shrug and follow his example. It tastes… it tastes much like you imagine promethium tastes like, but it is not an unpleasant taste, and you find that it is in fact quite agreeable. Gnorri finishes his drink, and seeing that you’re almost done with yours, smiles widely.

“Good lad! It’s no Bugman’s, but it’ll keep a dawi going.”

Johann merely looks bemused, pops the cap on his bottle, and takes a few swigs.

Gnorri then pulls himself onto the cart and sits on it, pouring himself another round while refilling yours, and tells you about the Old World between sips.

“You told him about Bretonnia yet, Johann? No? Well we’ll start there. The Empire ain’t the only human nation, Gurnemanz, there’s a few o’ them, though the Empire is by far the biggest. Estalia and Tilea border the sea to the South-West, they keep to themselves mostly and nobody bothers them allmuch. But to the West, past the Grey Mountains lies Bretonnia. A nation of warriors like the world has never known. They are fierce, honourable, and probably the closest to you, Gurnemanz, at least in how they act. They wish they could be as mighty as you, hehe. They compensate through using their steeds, and their knights in a charge is surely a sight to see. We dawi would like them more if they weren’t so close to those fickle knife-ear elves, but what can you do? The Empire is more trust-

>There are eldar here?!

“Uh, if that’s what you call Elgi, or elves, then yes. You know of them?”

>Yes. Perfidious creatures. They seduce the unwitting with promises of aid, then betray them in opportune moments. The more one learns of the alien, the more one will come to loath it.

Gnorri’s eyes widen as he pours himself another round. “That’s exactly it! You come to a Dwarfen hold, and you’ll have many friends there! Why, if you weren’t so tall I’d think you were one of us!” He cackles to himself while Johann rolls his eyes.

“But, as I said. The Elves. There’s a lot o’ them in a big forest near Bretonnia, but that’s not the least of our troubles! Across the sea there’s a big island of them, Ulthuan, where all the fancy pricks live and practice their magics. They also have a few fortresses about, but they’re down south. So it’s a wee bit hard to actually fight them, but when the pricks are about you know there’s trouble. And then there’s the Elgi'drazh.”

He spits, a foul look overtaking his face.

“Elves are untrustworthy at the best of times, but these, they call the Dark Elves. Worse than their cousins, they are in another place across the sea, further than Ulthuan, or so the captains say. A dark, dark place, if even half the stories are true. Murdering, slaving bastards. You know the kind?”

You force yourself to nod, a mask of fury settling on your face at the knowledge that even the Dark Eldar are here. Though, it must not be the same as you know, but primitive like the other races on this planet. Gnorri nods in understanding.

“Well. I’ll say no more. Thankfully they have no enclaves on the Old World, only the regular Elgi, though they come raiding. And then there’s my people, the Dawi. We live in great holds all throughout the mountains, trading with the human nations, and banding together to fight greenskins or worse when we need to. How good are you at fighting underground?”

You tell him that you no matter the environment, you can fight and kill whatever may come at you, and he hollers and has another drink.

“We’d have a great use for you in the Karaks. We used to have mighty halls and fortresses all throughout the mountains, but they have been taken from us over time by greenskins and other foul things. We could always use help to take some of them back you know. But what holds we do have are mighty indeed! I come from Karak Kadrin, the slayer hold, where our mightiest warriors gather and watch over the Eastern mountain passes. I wager with you at the head of the slayers, you could conquer a good part of the world! There are also other holds, Karaz-a-Karak, the home of our high king, and Zhufbar, the place where we invent all the stuff that the humans then copy. There are many of our holds scattered all throughout the mountains, many of them under constant attack by the greenskins.”

He pauses a moment to take another drink.

“And there are other human nations far away, Araby to the far south, though people speak ill of anywhere past the Badlands, and Cathay to the Far West, though I’ve never been that far, it’s a wasteland past the World’s Edge Mountains.”

You nod, mulling over the information he’s given you. It is equal parts intriguing and troubling. Troubling especially for the presence of Xenos, and the scale of the ork infestation. You will have to investigate these yourself, and gather what you can on how powerful these nations are. You are thankful that it does not seem like they are the same as the foes as you have fought, for even you would struggle against a determined kill-team of Eldar and Dark Eldar.

The squats working on the debris seem to be finishing up, and one of them walks over to Gnorri, who hops off the cart to talk to him. While they are in discussion, you turn to Johann.

>Were there other comets that fell across the sky when I did?

“Oh yes! Lots of them! You were the first, I think, but they were falling all evening. We thought the world was ending, a comet has a special significance to the Empire, and the sky was filled with them…”

>I see. Did any others land nearby?

He shakes his head. “Not near here. At least a day’s journey away, though I think you could get there quicker than most. I’ll ask someone to draw up a map for you later.”

He takes a few more swigs from the bottle while Gnorri comes back.

“Gurnemanz! I have something to ask you. This metal is unlike anything we have ever seen! Though it’s technically the Baron’s since it’s on his land, I’m not asking that prick for anything, and since you came down in it I will say it’s yours. I want to buy it off you. 500 gold crowns. The smiths at the Karaks will have a field day with this thing, it’s like Gromril but stronger, if that can be believed. Or I can put out the word that we owe you a favour in the holds. What do you say?”

What will you do?
>Sell it to Gnorri. You could do with the money.

we cannot do anything with adamantium, and we are broke as shit since we have literally nothing on hand to pay for anything beyond living as a hobo out in the forest at night. Plus its harmless if we let the dwarves get the stuff, they do not know it nor know how to work it, and its only a couple tons of metal that still wont be any threat to us unless its made with runes, which just as well applies anyway with Gromril.

Also glad to see where we are, we live in Ostermark and aren't that far away from Kadrin if we wanted to go stay there while making a name for ourselves killing the local natives attacking the hold. Granted, that means we are more then a thousand+ miles from Altdorf or nuln for its technology creation, but thats a problem for a different day and we have a crash site to investigate while running as fast as possible for a couple hours in order to reach it.

>I will take the money. I am new to this land, and have no way to pay for anything I may need.

Gnorri smiles and takes another swig of ale.

“Well then! 500 gold crowns it is! And if you ever come across more of this material I can promise you any dwarf worth his name will pay you handsomely.”

He jumps back onto the cart, and goes rummaging about in it, pulling out a wooden strongbox reinforced with iron. Reaching beneath his beard he produces a key, slots it in, and opens it. There are several small sacks within, and he counts out five, before handing them to you.

+500 Gold Crowns!

“Now, how about giving me and the lads a hand making something that can carry this chunk ‘o star metal?”

Shouting at the rest of the squats Gnorri has them running, and taking several seemingly oversized axes they proceed to attack the forest, felling several trees. You help them clear the trunks, carrying several over beside the fallen debris, the squats impressed by your strength. Johann for his part simply watches, content to take a swig from his bottle every now and then while the dwarfs pass out ale and drink as they work. You accept some offers to drink as well, but limit yourself. Drunkenness is unbecoming of a Space Marine, and you are no Space Wolf. Johann is shaking his head as more trees come down.

“Technically this wood is the Baron’s and any cutting of it without his permission is a crime. I think our friend here is abusing the Baron’s isolation. Well! I guess that simply means I was on the other side of town today.”

Soon enough trees are felled and the squats begin to work. Producing several hand tools they take to cutting up the wood, creating parts for a lever to lift the wood and a wheeled platform for it to rest on. They are quite efficient at their work, and in only a few hours the mechanism is ready. Getting you to act on the lever, you heave it while they pull on several ropes from the other side. After a few moments the chunk rolls over onto the platform to a great cheer from the squats, who immediately run over to the cart and all pour themselves another round. Gnorri walks over to you with a beaming face and beard flecked with foam.

“Good on you, Gurnemanz! If only we had 10 more like you, we could retake the Eight-Peaks in a day!”

You feel a pang of sorrow then for all your lost brothers. Death in service of the Emperor, the Doom of all Space Marines.

>There were hundreds of us, where I came from. The Celestial Knights. And hundreds of thousands more throughout the Imperium.

His eyes widen. “Yours must be a mighty empire indeed, Gurnemanz. Mighty and strong to produce a warrior like yourself.”

You shake your head.

>Even so, though we are the greatest amongst His soldiers, we are not enough to hold back the darkness that assails it day by day. The Imperium fades, and fights on despite it. The heights of our glory are long past.

As you reminisce you notice a dust cloud on the horizon, along the road, and growing closer. You point it out to Johann.

“Oh, you have good eyes, Sir Gurnemanz. Yes I see it. About 10 miles out. What could it be?”

You step forward, and put your helmet on. The HUD boots up, the silver lion of your chapter blinking in the corner as lengths of data scroll by. You hear the clicking and whining of processors, and your vision is magnified severalfold beyond even your augmented biology. It locks on to your target, and you can clearly see the coming group.

“It is horses. There are men upon them. Riding at full speed.”

Johann frowns. “Do they look like normal men?”

You look at him in confusion, and he shakes his head. “Normal as in… like myself. No spikes or closed helmets, are there?”

“No. I can see their faces. The two at the front have hats on, but that is all. Red hair and blonde.”

Johann relaxes. “Oh. That is alright then. Road wardens or the like. I wonder what they’re in a hurry for?”

He shrugs as you take off your helmet. Gnorri is equally unperturbed at the news, and you help them test the stability of the platform before they start pulling it down the hill. They are taking care to not let it roll down uncontrolled, and by the time you arrive back at the gates of the town the squats are clamouring for another drink. Johann for his part goes into town to fetch that map he promised you earlier, promising to come back soon.

By the time he returns, the horsemen are clearly visible even to the unaugmented eye. Johann takes one look at them and swears.

“Morr! I didn’t think it was those kinds of hats!”

Soon enough, the horsemen are at the town gates, and have stopped. You look at the two in front, with their long leather coats and tall, wide brimmed hats, covered in all manner of weaponry, and wonder who they could be. Their demeanour almost reminds you of Inquisitors. Johann whispers to you.

“The Witch-Hunters. They are either good news, or very, very bad.”

They ride up, one hand on their horses bridles, the other hovering close at their sides, near what looks to be holsters. They do not open fire, though Gnorri and his fellow squats look at them sullenly. They glare at you from beneath their hats, then the red-haired one opens his mouth.

“In Sigmar’s name, explain yourself! What is this thing?!”

He points at you, while his companion remains silent.

Johann quickly steps forward, his hands upraised.

“Gentlemen! Please! We are friends! This is Sir Gurnemanz, who recently fell from the stars! He has helped us drive off greenskins and beastmen! Please, he is no threat!”

“He looks like a Norscan to me. I want to hear it from him!”

You decide against mentioning chaos to the two men, considering that an Inquisitor would order you burnt at the stake, if you were a normal human that is. Instead, you rely upon the explanation you gave Johann and the Baron earlier, since it worked relatively well.

>"I am not a man of this world, witch-hunter. I have with ease protected from raids of greenskins and beastmens the settlements of Hutzheim, Hutznord and Sudenhutz. You can easily ask the people living there of what I did. And I will tell you more: once I retrieve what is the property of my chapter, I fully intend to purge the nearby forest of both greenskins and beastmens. Permanently."

The Witch-Hunters look at each other, an eyebrow raised between them. Your questioner nods. “Go on…”

>I come from an order of knights, created to protect humanity, from the alien, mutant, and heretic. It is my duty to slay the foes of mankind until they are dead, or I am.

You then relate the circumstances of your arrival here on the piece of debris behind you, Gnorri vouching that it is a metal totally unknown to even his race. With Johann also telling them how you drove off the orks and beastmen near singlehandedly, the Witch-Hunters seem to become more interested.

“And this on the night the comet landed here?”

You reply that it is.

“Have you heard a tale like this before, Reinhard?”

“No, Siegfried.”

“Hm. Very well. His armour does not look like the make of the north. We will be investigating this village, and making inquiries among the townfolk! Sigmar be praised!”

He rides closer to look you in the eye.

“We will be watching you.”

As they are about to ride into the town, Johann rushed over and exclaims,

“Wait, mylords! What news from the rest of the province?”

The Witch-Hunters glance at each other again, hesitating, and it is one of their escort, men dressed in simple clothes with only a helmet and distinctive brooch holding their cloaks together, who speaks, in a hoarse and tired voice.

“The roads are not safe. We have ridden since the comets fell, and found no sleep or town free from siege until now. The beastmen are pouring out of the forests, and the greenskins are on the prowl. And Bechafen…”

But then he pauses, an ashamed look crossing his face as he looks at the Witch-Hunters. You hear a small mumble from the man, and then he is silent. “Sorry, milords.”

But the lead Witch-Hunter, the one with red hair, sighs and shakes his head. You suddenly see that they are just as exhausted as their men, only they are more used to it, and know how to hide it better.

“No. You may speak. They may as well hear it.”

The man pauses a moment, then resumes.

“They say Bechafen is in flames, though we did not see it for ourselves. They say… they say a cult has seized it, and proclaimed the End Times are nigh. The comets are a sign, people say. There are rumours the greenskins are marching from the World’s Edge Mountains across the Veldt. Not just disorganised tribes, but a full Waaagh. Word has been sent to Altdorf, but… the roads are not safe. The roads are not safe…”

His face is pale as he finishes, his eyes staring wildly at everyone around him. You have seen that look before, in the eyes of Guardsmen who have endured too much over too short a time. The Witch-Hunter, Reinhard, jerks his head towards the town, and their escort rides in slowly. You, Gnorri, and Johann follow behind, Johann soon running off to fetch that map he promised you. Gnorri looks up at the Witch-Hunters.

“What are your plans, sirs?”

Siegfried shakes his head. “We must verify these rumours of orks, once we are rested. And once that is done, we must send word to Altdorf, or discover what has happened to Bechafen. But the beastmen are prowling the roads in large numbers, and I fear the going will be dangerous. The town must be fortified at any rate, for there are things afoot in the world that will threaten all of us.”

He is silent, and soon comes upon a tavern and goes inside with his companion. You are outside with Gnorri, who is worrying about the journey to Karak Kadrin when Johann returns, bearing a slip of paper.

“Sir Gurnemanz! Here it is. Hutzheim is marked in red, and I have tried to mark where debris may have fallen with purple crosses. I am sure there are more sites throughout the empire, but these are the closest.”

You take the paper from him, and examine it. It is a map of the region. This will help you decide what to do in the coming days.

What shall you do?
>Stay with the town to help fortify it. You are stronger than any of them, and with your help it can be made to withstand even an army.
>Investigate these rumours of a Waaagh yourself. You are faster, and deadlier than anything this Empire can send out anyhow.
>You must secure the debris Johann has marked out first. They could contain valuable tech, and you can’t let it fall into the hands of orks, or other things on the prowl.

The orks may be xenos and savages, but they are master of doing the unexpected. Leaving any of our tech behind for them to loot could lead to disaster for the entire Empire.
+ Ask the Witch-Hunters for the location of Bechafen. Tell them that these dark cults are a major threat in our Imperium too, and tell them that we would be willing to go ahead and clear out any corruption if they do exist.

We shall return to clean up the forest near Hutzheim, Hutznord and Sudenhutz when this task is done first. We have limited amount of time, before curiosity and greed have dark actors begin to pillage this 4 wreck sites. Realistically speaking, there is nothing to be done about any distant wrecks Johann didn't heard of. Until we hear news of them, they are very likely to be looted.

Ah, lovely map by the way, very nice work made on it as well as a good explanation on being safe from trouble with the Witch-Hunter authorities. Probably after looking into all 4 locations, we should head up north to Bechafen to go liberate it before continuing our work to recover our fallen debris and killing anything terrible in our way. Especially since we will need to go and look for our fallen ancient brother and get involved in saving the world from the End Times. Especially since we don't know how much time we have left before the clock ticks down, since we only know we live i Franz's reign but specifically when that is, is almost impossible to tell right now short of just asking the people and Gnorri what the date is in there calenderer. The Ork problem is just going to be a problem for Kadrin that Ungrim would love to have so he can kill another foe and get a chance at a Glorius doom so that's not a problem. And being proactive to take on the enemy is definitely something we would be great at doing instead of sitting on our ass and having other people with their own agendas enact things with their own plans or the debris we just saw land all over the empire.

>Tell the Witch-Hunters, Johann and Gnorri that we are going to take the Wrecks seen on the map we have been gifted first. Once that is done we will head for Bechafen and conquer it before moving on to find more of the fallen debris or foes of humanity. Ask from everyone around what time it is in the calender system so we know how far into this emperor's reign is so we can act to assist him in future endevaours for his empire once our current problems are dealt with. If Gnorri is still here, tell him we can sell him more of those wrecks too, or make weapons out of them if he follows along with us on our journey to the sites.

You cannot let the valuable technology of the Adeptus Astartes fall into the wrong hands. Not on this planet. The nightmare alone if the orks figure out how to desecrate the machines of the Mechanicus and produce them en masse would be an immense problem. Your advantage lies in the fact that there is nothing so far that can pierce your armour, excepting your own weaponry. You have been on the receiving end of that before, and the experience is not pleasant.

You examine the map that Johann gave you closely. It is not detailed, but it gives you a good enough direction to start with, and you commit it to memory before handing it back to him.

>These markings are accurate?

He shrugs. “Close enough, Sir Gurnemanz. I had to quiz a few of my men, but there were so many comets in the sky, and none of us actually saw where they came down. You may have to search the area to find it. I wish you luck.”

You thank him, and after asking him to tell the Witch-Hunters that you will be back with mighty weapons in the morning, you head to the town gates, which are on the verge of being shut.
The moon is beginning to rise over the horizon as you leave the town, running at speed along the road to the south. You are planning to take a clockwise route, going for the debris to the south-west, before making your way to the debris in the north, and returning to the town some hours hence. You make good time, passing through the village of Sudenhutz and hearing a cheer go up from the people when they see you pass by as they stand around a bonfire made from ork corpses.

After about two hours, you arrive at the town of Eisental. The gate is shut, and it would be too complicated to explain yourself anyway. It does not escape your notice however that even this town is walled, and there are corpses of the mutant beastmen surrounding it. Keeping to the shadows so as not to alarm them, you head due east, crossing the river easily in your vacuum rated armour.

On the other side you range over the fields, in search of the debris marked out on the map. It is easy enough to find, for there is a long scar in the earth obvious even from several kilometers away, the burnt grassland standing out starkly in the moonlight.

You are disappointed. It is only debris after all. Smaller than the one you landed in too, so you will earn less money if you can recover it and sell it to Gnorri. It is strange though, that even more than a night after you landed here it is undisturbed. These lands are obviously rich and fertile, and you would think that they would make prime farmland. You also notice that there are no villages within visual range. Are things really so desperate out here that it remains underpopulated?

Debris located!

You shrug, and move on to the next piece of debris. It is another several hours, but you find the site. This looks more promising. The land, again, seems undisturbed, but you can see that there are scattered bodies here, servitors, and another chunk of metal. But it is what lies a little beyond the edge of this crater that catches your eye. The body is burnt beyond all recognition, too small for a space marine, but lacking the augments of a servitor, and you realise it was one of your scouts. There were only a few of them at the end. You wonder who it was. Daland? Rienzi? Arindal? You do not know. To the end he did his duty, clutching one of your chapters weapons to his body as he fell. You will bury him, but before you do, you reach out to the precious gift left by his sacrifice…

How will we strengthen the Empire, or at least humanity? I think we would need to create our faction. My suggestion is to eventually head to the Border princes to build it there.
We would need to focus quite heavily on intrigue first to stop any espionage, dismantle any spy networks, eradicate Chaos cults, and create the strong foundations of a grand human civilisation that can start to beat back the enemies of man.
After that would be Agriculture or other forms of farming, then the military, then the economy, then diplomacy. All to start a resurgence of human prosperity and human dominance in the old world, and by that point, we might be more knowledgeable of the other friendly factions of the planet we find ourselves on.

annoyingly few images of combi weapons this will have to do
You gently pull apart his arms, which easily part beneath your gauntlets and take the Combi-Weaponfrom his grasp. The bottom half of the weapon is a regular bolter, but the top half, though dull and unpowered, is made from a series of magnetic accelerator coils, seemingly intact. This is indeed a mighty weapon. The scout’s sacrifice will not be in vain.

Combi-plasma gained!

You spend some time burying the body. Just a few metres from the crater, you dig a shallow grave for the fallen scout, placing him within it and covering him with the dirt of this world. There are surely hundreds like him scattered across the planet, and you will not have time to find nor bury them all. So you look over the grave for a few moments in silence, before examining the weapon he has left you.
It seems to have suffered little damage. Burnt at the edges, but you suspect it would work well enough if you tried to shoot it. You refrain from testing it however, because you do not have any spare ammo. It will have to receive a baptism of combat, as it the case with so many things made by the Imperium.

And then you are off again, running north-west now to the third site marked by Johann. It is after midnight you reckon, when you reach the river, and following find yourself at the bridge leading to the town of Nagenhof, the largest you have seen so far. There are several buildings smouldering around it, though the stone walls stand proud, if battered. The gate is scorched, but you can see it has not been breached, and there are men patrolling the walls. Corpses of orks and gretchins surround it, though remarkably little, and you suspect that if you searched you might find them at camp somewhere nearby. But you do not have time to linger, and moving like a shadow you run north, off the road and onto the open fields.

You do not need to spend any effort looking for the next impact site. It stands out stark against the night, like a crooked finger reaching to the heavens. It is no small piece of debris you see, but a large, jagged piece of the ship, as big as a knight. The land around it is black, blasted by the force of the impact. However, the structure itself seems remarkably intact, warped and bent at the edges where it broke off from the ship, but seemingly strong enough to withstand the forces of the atmosphere and sudden impact with the ground. You can even recognise arched window frames within, though the stained armaglass is shattered. Examining it closer you find an entrance, a tear in the structure, and venturing within you see bodies, burnt and broken beyond recognition. None of your brothers however, so you explore more of the structure, and find it is a corridor laying on its side, the night sky above shining brightly. You find nothing of value, estimating that this must have been some section for the crew, or a storage area. It would however make an excellent fortification, given that the adamantium and ceramite hull would be far stronger than any material that could be made on this world. You note down the coordinates, and move on.

You head East, towards the fourth and final site marked by Johann. The moors are desolate, lonely and grey, and the bumpy hills prevent you from surveying much of the land. You are close to the mountains now, and they loom ominously in the darkness of the night. After some hours of searching, you realise that Johann, or whoever marked this portion of the map must have been mistaken. Still, you keep searching, desperate for another advantage you can use on this world, and that is when you find it.

It is not the impact crater you were looking for, but it is curious enough to grab your attention. Ork tracks. It could be anything really, but the several dead gretchins with their skulls caved in clues you in. And, atypical of orks, they are moving as an organised horde in one direction. You quickly surmise that they must have been going after something that caught their attention. You quickly set off following the tracks, but you don’t know how old they are, and it is difficult to track them, given that you are no Space Wolf. However, your mind revolts at the thought of orks desecrating something of your chapter, and you follow as best as you can.

It is easy enough to follow the orks. They are, even at the worst of times, unstealthy creatures, and they leave litterings and signs of their passage wherever they go. Usually in the form of dead gretchins, but sometime you find a piece of excrement, or scuffle marks in the dirt where they’ve fought each other to relieve boredom when there’s nothing else to fight. The foul xenos, for all their ferocity, are simple creatures, singleminded, yet deadly. But from what you have seen, there are only feral orks on this world, and they lack even what little sophistication their cousins whom you have fought on countless worlds possess. These seem to be little more than mindless beasts, roaming in search of a new fight, being a menace to the Empire and their squat allies and whatever else inhabits this world. You will be glad to put an end to their wretched existence.

It is some time later when you come to the impact site. It has been trampled almost beyond recognition, but the land bears the distinctive mark of an impact crater, and a little beyond, there is the body of one of your brothers. His distinctive white armour stands out stark against the dark landscape. An apothecary. You rush over, but the orks have been here, and he is already dead.

He bears no wounds, and there are no ork corpses here, meaning that he died on impact. But his body has been desecrated, parts of his armour pulled off and his narthecium smashed to bits. His helmet is also missing. You recognise him. It is Brother Maurer. He had fought beside you in many battles of late, saving the lives of several of your brothers, and extracting their precious gene-seed when he could not. You remember how fiercely he fought during the fall of your Fortress-Monastery, one of the last to embark upon the evacuation hawks. A true warrior of the Knights Celestial.

You dig your second grave of the night, the work weighing heavy on your soul. But you will not tire, not while these foul orks still live. Pouring the last patch of dirt on the mound, you take his pauldron, bearing the silver lion of the Knights Celestial, and lay it gently on top of the grave. You set off at once, on the trail of the orks, intending to slay them all.

[POV Shift]

Several hours ago…

The boyz were restless. They’d followed the falling star right proppa, but when they got there it was just a dead humie. A big one, bigger than the boss, but ‘ee was dead all the same. Not a fight to be had. The lads were disappointed. Not fair for humies to die before a fight. Cowardly buggers, they woz. Usually the big’uns gave a roight proppa fight. ‘ee was mighty curious though. Painted white. And da armour was tuff. Tuffer den a stunty. Gobba shrugged. Da boss wouldn’t be happy. There’s ain’t nothing to give ‘im, and the lads were beginning to push each other ‘round again, so it was best they got movin’. But then Gobba noticed some shiny things hanging from the humie. What wozzat?

He reached down and picked one up. It was a round glass thing, with liquid stuff in it. Coloured weird, though. He struggled to get it open for a bit, before it popped open. He looked inside. There was stuff in there. Meaty stuff. What woz zis then? He sniffed. Smelled weird.

He raised the glass to his mouth and drank it. Hm. Tasty. He grabbed the rest of the stuff. All the same. He shrugged. One of the boyz wandered over but he barked at him and sent him scamperin’. They knew better than to get in a scrap with ‘im. This stuff was juicy. Chewy too. Gobba spent the next several minutes gobbling down the rest of the liquid-chewy stuff before yelling at the boyz to get a move on, giving a few good kicks up the backside when they were being too slow. Nice meal that was. He burped. Nice meal indeed.

[End POV Shift]

The sun is beginning to rise when you see the telltale sign of smoke on the horizon. A campfire you surmise, considering there are no town in this area, according to Johann’s map. You begin to sprint, a cold rage overtaking you from the loss of your brother. There are several hills between you and the camp of orks, and make sure to stay in cover until you can surprise them suddenly. They haven’t even left any sentries on watch. Stupid creatures. Cresting the final hill, you raise your sword and let out a cry only to stop short.

Several orks turn their heads to look at the hill where the strange noise came from. They scratch their heads. Then they nudge their neighbours, and point. Then those nudge their neighbours, and soon thousands of eyes are looking at you, a lone Space Marine standing in front of a horde of thousands of orks. The rumours the Witch-Hunters heard are true then. There was indeed a horde of greenskins crossing the plains and you have just blundered into them.

You stare at each other for several seconds in total silence. Then one bigger than the rest, with a white Space Marine helmet dangling from his neck stands up and points.

GET HIM LADZ!

The orks look at each other in confusion, but it only takes a moment, and they rush at you as one with a mighty WAAAAAAAAAAGGGHHHHH!

What shall you do?
>Fight the orks. They are thousands, but you are a Space Marine and you will not be felled by mere creatures such as these. With bolter, blade, and plasma you will purge them all.
>Go after the leader. Cutting your way through to him will be easy, and once you defeat him the horde will be scattered.
>Write in.

A voice whispers to you. You cannot defeat them all. Your muscles will tire, your sword will slip from your grasp. But you must avenge your brother. Feed your rage. Let fury grip your twin-hearts. Wield it and find victory!

yeah these greenskins will wish to be dead twice once Gurnemanz realizes Maurer did not have his gene seed container with him.... too bad they are thousands of orks. The one that was eating geneseed will probably escape. If nothing else we can recover Maurer helm and take it back to his tomb. About that .... i fear someone will just loot said tomb in the forest or since Ostermark is near undead central 2 electric boogaloo, resurrect Maurer as undead. I am considering if we should take him and the scout body somewhere else instead of leaving them in the middle of nothing and trusting chance. Maybe asking the dwarf trader Ironhide for a temporary tomb for them, or Johann instead. Both have deities that protect graveyards, cemeteries and tombs from necromancy.

Sidenote, but we have nothing bolter or plasma wise since we do not have ammo for either of those, we just have our power sword with us instead. Still not a great thing, but we can manage against thousands of orcs with only iron age weapons on hand with nothing larger or more dangerous then just numbers.

I don't think we will end up death by passing the 60 DC. Probably wounded in some capacity. This said is entirely on the interpretation of Aurebesh of what kind of warrior and how powerful is an average* battle brother of the Celestial Knights, and how much rolls impact for him as a QM.

I recon Gurnemanz, would still have plenty of advantages over fantasy greenskins that balance how this battle goes. Or how combat and battle will go in general in quest. His power armor, his weapons, his training, his chapter battle tactics and the use of the terrain.

*having a power sword is usually a sign of a worthy deed done if its in the hands of a battle brother in the majority of most chapters.

That voice. You know what it means. What it heralds. And yet, you must admit, the thought tugs at your soul. Who would deny an Astartes the right to find victory against His enemies? Who would not accept a boon to their prowess in battle? For you and your brothers there is only war. But you are no crude weapon of mindless hate. You burn heretics because they corrupt mankind’s soul, you purge the mutant because they corrupt the body, and you slay the xenos because they corrupt existence itself. You know what would happen were you to accept the poisoned chalice, let the insidious powers lay a hand on your soul. You have seen chaos’ children, vile, deformed things, mutated, and inhuman. And soon you would become unsatisfied with the slaughter of the alien, mutant, and heretic, and turn against your own kind, against the charges you have been given to protect. No, you will not become like that.

And suddenly, your rage cools. It is still there, but it is a calming, focused hatred, a disgust at the xenos horde in front of you. A blight on existence, an insult to the pure form of humanity. They are thousands, but they wield not even the crude shootas of their void-borne cousins, and you will slay them all.

And so you energise your power sword, the blade crackling with pure energy, twists of lightning crawling upon it as it glows bright blue, as blue as the plasma coils that hiss with the force of the heat they hold back, and you step forward and shout in a mighty voice a challenge to the primitive WAAAAAAGGGGHH that faces you.

BY MY BLADE, THE INHUMAN FILTH DIES!

And then you are charging, cutting the front rank down with a single swing, though the orks are not chastened, if anything, they rush in with even greater abandon at the prospect of a foe that will not go quietly. You match them with an even greater ferocity, wading into the tide, letting their crude weapons impact against your armour while thrusting and cutting with your sword. It’s reach outranges most of their weapons, and many barely have time to look shocked as you neatly separate their limbs from their bodies, or simply cleave them in two, the muscly green flesh smoking as it separates. Then you feel yourself hit from the side and you fall over, along with several other ork boyz who were unlucky enough to be in the way.

From the groaning beneath you, you can tell they won’t be any trouble, and as you look up you see a giant squig glaring at you, a little taller than yourself and making ready to hit you with another charge. And atop it, the ork boss you saw earlier, around whose neck dangles the stolen helm of Brother Maurer. He’s chuckling to himself, and as you stand he points at you.

“OI. BLUE GIT. I DUNNO WHO YOU ARE BUT I’M GONNA KRUMP YOU RIGHT PROPPA!”

And then the squig is charging at you. It would probably pose a threat to you if you had to fight it. But it is only one, and these beasts do not know that your only skill is with a blade.
So it is with an expression of surprise that the boss gets launched from his saddle when the head of his mount explodes from the impact of hot plasma. You rush at him then, seeking to strike him down, but he dodges your blade and strikes your arm with his axe, and with his strength he actually manages to bite into your armour, drawing blood. He laughs and pulls it away, then you get tackled from the side, and it is only with the help of your bolter that you extricate yourself from the pile of bodies that suddenly finds its way on top of you.

With a roar you cut your way out, but the boss of this horde is nowhere to be found. Eventually, you are knee deep in the dead, and the sight of a blue giant covered in the gore of their horde seems to get it into their thick brains that there is no fight to be had here, only their own deaths. So with a scream they begin to run, and at the sight of their brethren running even more of them begin to run until it is a full rout. You stagger from the field covered in blood, some of it your own from the wound you suffered from the warboss. Bodies surround you for several hundred metres all around, the ground turning dark with the amount of blood that has been spilt. The damage to you is light, but the fact that you are wounded at all gives you pause. If they can make you bleed, they can kill you. With that sobering thought, you return to Hutzheim.

Armour Damaged. Your left arm is Lightly Damaged.

The sun is high in the sky when you arrive at the gates of the town. You waded through the river to get rid of most of the muck, but there is still some left, and Johann when he arrives looks shocked.

“Sir Gurnemanz! What happened to you? Your armour is all scratched!”

>The rumours of an orkish horde were true. I slew many, but most fled. They will not be a threat in the immediate future, but they may reform, given time.

He nods soberly. “The Witch-Hunters will want to hear of this. But your arm!”

>The ork leader wounded me, but only lightly. It does not need to be looked at.

He looks doubtful, but he dutifully obeys and leads you to the inn where the Witch-Hunters are staying. On the way he explains that he persuaded them to wait until your return, and they have spent the morning planning the town’s defences and visiting the local villages. It also seems the baron made an extremely bad impression on them, so bad in fact that they ordered him placed under arrest, and their opinion of you has only increased after learning about how you put him in his place.

So it is with some satisfaction that you duck beneath the door of the Gott-Hammer and meet with the Witch-Hunters, Siegfried and Reinhard. They are extremely pleased at the news of the horde, and though you did not manage to slay them all they conclude that the immediate threat of orks, beyond the usual tribes, is over. The discussion then turns to Bechafen, and what to do about it. There has been no news from it at all, and they are beginning to worry. And in this place, concern is rarely misplaced. The other towns, Nagenhof and Eisental seem to have weathered the immediate storm, and have pledged their men, and there are other towns on the route who can also provide enough for a small army.

They look to you then, and say that you could be of great aid. Having a mighty warrior like you accompanying the army would be a massive boost to morale, or, given your speed and endurance, you could make contact with the surrounding villages and gather more men for the march on the city. They are happy to leave the choice to you.

What shall you do?
>Go with them on the march to Bechafen. It will be good to see the quality of troops these lands hold, and perhaps you could try your hand at training them.
>Range across the land and recruit more men from the surrounding towns. You will need every advantage in the coming battle.

Armour damage: Occurs when you suffer failures in combat. Armour is in a series of states, ranging from light damage to integrity failure. It covers your helmet, power pack, torso, arms, legs, and pauldrons. No penalty until it reaches integrity failure, but it is a good idea to keep it fixed, when you can. There are also very few smiths (i.e currently none) who know how to work with ceramite. You will also need a supply of ceramite to fix it. You can lose more than one armour level in a single fight, depending on the enemy you face. If you have any further questions, feel free to ask.

If Bechafen is taken, then they will have more cultists and demons than this likely unprepared and untested army. More recruits are needed, even if days of training will just make them fodder more than soldiers.

Currently none, and unlikely more than that. Learning to even produce not ceramite grade space marine armor, but lesser grades of ceramite should be exceptionally very difficult beyond divine insight or finding a manual about it. And i am talking about a team of the best smiths, engineers, crafters, mages, priests and scholars working all together for do it. Not happening right now.
Gurnemanz could do it but he is no tech-marine, so he would be able to only maintain not do proper repairs really. Unless he starts to study and make attempts of learning...without any books, cogitators or examples from a brother for do so. Neither guidance by a teacher. Also difficult.

This said are you willing, for us to consider other power armor pieces as able to repair our power armor ? Brother Maurer white power armor is still there even if in part desecrated by orcs for example. Switching a piece of our dark blue power armor with one of the white could be possible.

plus four questions aside :
- what's ammo level of combi bolter ? all spent ? quarter left ?
- whats the stance of Gurnemanz on the corpse of the scout and apothecary Maurer ? i am not joking on putting their corpes in a better temporary place.
- can we sell the debris scrap locations to Ironhide, or is a technically bring them to him issue first ?
- how much proverbial rope are the Witch-Hunters duo giving us here when it comes to this army ?

I feared not getting that 80 would lead to something, and in this case its not certainly terrible, but its good to know going forward about armour damage, and hey if thats the result after killing thousands of orcs, which we did do after leaving litterally hundreds of meters of gore, crushed limbs and bodies, smoking or wet guts and organs, as well as a liberal amount of green blood coating everything within that area, I think we did manage to kill that warband of presumably close to ten thousand, and shrink them to closer to something like 3-4k after this fight for them. Probably should have gone for the leader, but next time we will be fighting with a army and the circumstances will not be the same as they were last time.

same as autist anon, I'm voting for this. Also, I do not see why not as regards to changing out or taking certain armour peices from certain power armour suits that we find and not be able to switch them out after disconnecting them to serve as replacements for our armour if and when damage is affected upon it.

>what's ammo level of combi bolter ? all spent ? quarter left ?
I fuzzed it a little for this fight, it should last you one more, depending on the enemy.

>whats the stance of Gurnemanz on the corpse of the scout and apothecary Maurer ? i am not joking on putting their corpes in a better temporary place.
Up to you guys. If you want to go back and give them a proper burial after Bechafen then I can write that in, I'll put it in as an option. And if you want to loot Brother Maurer for his armour too then that should be fine, I know culturally Space Marines use the armour from the fallen over and over again.

>can we sell the debris scrap locations to Ironhide, or is a technically bring them to him issue first ?
Yeah, that's the idea, selling it to him or any other dwarves you come across.

>how much proverbial rope are the Witch-Hunters duo giving us here when it comes to this army ?
Quite a bit, they've accepted your story and the Baron's only impressed upon them that you have the best interests of humanity at heart. They want it to go to Bechafen, but other than that they're happy for you to do whatever you want.

Glad to see that this is the case, something to make not of in the future after Bechlafen to go back to our fallen brothers and dig up there armour and corpses so they both can be preserved, and in the case of Maurer's armour, be used for replacement of our own once this set of armour becomes too damaged for it to be worthwhile protection before having to replace it with a new set of armour in its joint region.

>I fuzzed it a little for this fight, it should last you one more, depending on the enemy.
acceptable, would it possible to use it more sparingly or on targets perceived as dangerous ?

>Up to you guys.
excellent. I am not sure where, but we should be able to arrange it in a settlement/place that is not going to be overrun and sacked the moment we leave. I would have said Bechafen, but the city is lost. Fortunately Morr is a well liked god here in Ostermark and that means they have a good presence here, and if not we could ask the trader Ironhide. Dwarfs do treat the dead well if nothing else.

>Brother Maurer for his armour
also good. But really is only sensible, and we can consider it as a memento to carry of him. Realistically speaking ? Gurnemanz current power armor might be dust in less than a month. Space Marines fight a lot, and they usually fight enemies that can wound or kill them. Warhammer Fantasy is filled by powerful and numerous enemies, not even talking about even "legendary" or special enemies. And thing is, most space marines battle brothers have a not indifferent amount of support personnel helping them for proper repairs of their equipment. Chapter serfs, tech priests, servitors, varied machines and tech marines. All not accessible anymore to Gurnemanz, so that means....we might have to use native war gear soon lol. Debris too far away are just going to be ransacked and looted, before we get to them.

>Yeah, that's the idea
Well then. This will take a while, but we can get more money or favors from the dwarfs.

>Quite a bit
Very cool. Maybe we can strike a friendship and see about making a personal army or retinue (thinking of either a merc company or an order of knights. Probably the second). I have intentions to clean up Ostermark anyway, and have Gurnemanz learn more about the world while here.

He was very sure of himself being in charge. Maybe he started saying the same stuff he said to Gurnemanz and Johann to them, he must have felt like he was about to be walked over again in term of authority. Plus offenses, witch-hunters do have power but not absolute or above nobles after all. Its a nat 1 so it must have been quite bad. With how Ostermark is faring i don't think the two witch-hunters had the time or care to give for someone like the Baron, and Gurnemanz was well liked already by multiple locals.

>>6279104
Same, but they have so far meet only positive things about him. And the only one that might have told them something negative about him is the Baron, which they didn't like and put down. We do need to not forget, that Ostermark situation and Bechafen fall make for desperate times and are probably part of the witch-hunters current decision making. I think the battle that awaits us at Bechafen will likely cement our good rep in the characters seen so far. Ah and our notoriety will also jump with that.

You inform the Witch-Hunters that you will spend the next few days recruiting more troops for the anticipated battle of Bechafen. There are several towns on the route between Hutzheim and the capital of Ostermark, but you suspect they will need every body they can get, even if they will be more fodder than soldiers, especially if there are cultists involved. Though you know little about the nature of religion and cults on this world, unless a genestealer stole aboard your ship and survived the trip down, it can only mean one thing. The forces of Chaos. Heresy.

The mere thought of the Archenemy sets your blood boiling. More than any other foe that the Imperium faces, it is by far the most insidious, subversive, and corrupting. You do not know what will face you, and it is a problem that these people do not have the faith in the God-Emperor that sustains so many soldiers and citizens of the Imperium across so many worlds, but you will have to make do. You speak with the Witch-Hunters and agree on a preliminary strategy. They will march to Bechafen along the Bechafen-Kadrin road with the forces from Hutzheim, Nagenhof, and Eisental, which have already begun arriving throughout the day, and they will recruit as many men as they can from the townships and villages along the way. You will do the same, travelling to the townships far west of here, and meet somewhere before Bechafen.

You also inquire about what other forces may be at your disposal, if there are any nobles and knights in this land, and to your relief the Witch-Hunters inform you that there are several, in particular the Grand Templar Order of the Blue Axes, who have often protected the land when it has been invaded in the past. Letters have already been sent, and comrades of theirs, Oskar and Wolfgang, are expected to be with them. However, they are particularly anxious as Bechafen is the core of Ostermark’s defence, and as a fortified city there are few that can match its defences, and the army at its disposal.

You also ask if the money given to you by Gnorri Ironhide may be of any use in training the men, and they reply that there will doubtless be mercenaries throughout the towns who will take up the opportunity for some easy coin, though you will have to see when you recruit them.

So it is that the plans are laid, and preparations begun. As a final thing, you request some kind of sigil or symbol to show that you are their ally, and a letter of recommendation. It will not do to run intro trouble on the road with suspicious citizens of the empire. They quickly oblige, Siegfried sitting down to write the letter while Reinhard gives you a small silver hammer hanging from a leather band, an amulet they say will show your allegiance to the Empire and protect you from evil. You know it will not work against the forces of chaos, but you thank them, and bid your farewells. You will all meet again on the road to Bechafen, Throne willing.

Talisman of Sigmar and Letter of Recommendation gained!

But before you leave, you make a short visit to Hutzheim’s blacksmith. Your armour was breached, and though you know he cannot fix it, not in so short a time, you wish to get his opinion. You find him easily, the sound of metal hammering against metal the loudest sound in town. Johann is there, and as you approach he waves at you.

“Sir Gurnemanz! What are you doing here? I was just asking Drockh here how many plates of armour he could smith for me and the men.”

>I am here for a similar purpose, for I wish to know about repairing my armour.

You show him your arm, with the gash the ork gave you clearly visible, the blue armour dented and scratched all around. Drockh shuffles over and strokes his beard.

“Gurnemanz is it? Nowhere near as good as Dwarfish smiths, I don’t have much of an idea. You’d have to get one of them to have a look at it, though I would ven-ture to es-ti-mate that making something alike with regular metal, that would do the same job, would cost 25GC. Per piece. Maybe more.”

He scratches his head.

“Could haggle for it, but them dwarfs are penny-pinchers the lot of them. S’what it’s worth anyway. Depending on the quality and how much you’re fightin’, might last you a couple battles. I ain’t no pro-fess-ional smith, no sir.”

So while he can’t fix it, maybe the dwarfs can. Though if you understand him correctly, you can create a temporary approximation with regular metalwork too, if you needed to. Thanking him you say your goodbyes to Johann, who will also be travelling with the army marching on Bechafen.

It will be at least a week, maybe more, before you all arrive, since you have advised the Witch-Hunters to undertake a standard march instead of rushing. They were anxious, but recognised your wisdom, that fresh and somewhat experienced troops are better than tired and untrained ones. So you set out from Hutzheim in the afternoon, heading west. The Witch-Hunters will move to Nagenhof, assemble the local troops there, then begin moving to Elbing, Heffengen, Remer, and Reitwein before assembling in the forest near Bechafen. You on the other hand will go to Fichetal, Burgenhof and Durben, then across the Bleak Moors to Kiel, Rhebulas, Sitlakes, Seuthes, and Menshenfresserhoffen, then from there to Bechafen.

Roll 1d100, I need 8 rolls.
