STEM academic advice
I asked this on /sci/ but that board is practically dead so i'm asking here, maybe there is a fellow STEMfag who can give me advice:

Hey guys, i am finishing the first year of my master's program in computational mathematcis. I have a bachelor's in pure mathematics. I want to go into the industry after i graduate, but i am having trouble choosing a subject for my master's thesis. I am split between formal verification of some cryptographic protocol and some machine learning/deep learning/data science algorithms and optimisation and stuff.
Which would look better on my CV, and what is more sought after? Thanks in advance

Thank you for the bump friendo. From what i've heard, you can get a job as a code monkey withput any qualifications if you're good enough. I know a HS dropout who is a senior dev in a big firm, completely self taught.

Does it matter? Because at least how i see it doesn't matter much unless you wanna go further in one of those respective fields. If rather do something that you like more so that you don't fuck up the thesis and have some motivation
>t. almost master or science in CS

chat-gpt script kiddies can do machine learning and data science, you will be competing against millions of jeets for an entry level position. Cryptographics is way more niche but probably still better prospects

I'm still on the fence whether i want to go for a doctorate or work in the industry for a few years first. And these are the two fields i'm most interested in, machine learning and applied cryptography. I thought maybe i could merge the two into a single thesis, like formal differential verification of federated learning privacy protocols.
Are you gonna stay in academia? What's your thesis?

you do not want to go for a doctorate

How fucked am I if I enrolled into CS in a prestigious university but I literally don't know anything about coding, like I don't barely know what va code is

It's not hard to learn. You're only fucked if you're retarded.

lol no they can't

unless you go for a research position in the industry it doesn't matter all that much, with the doctorate it's ofc better if you know a bit already before getting to dive in, but then you'll learn much more than you'd learn for your masters rhesis.
> I thought maybe i could merge the two into a single thesis
Be careful of scope creep
>Are you gonna stay in academia
No, ill become a boring old software dev
>What's your thesis?
built a smol data analytics platform for an existing uni project, wasn't that spectacular

Not really, people bring some knowledge with them in the beginning in the practical stuff but that doesn't matter much anyway since the programming/software engineering courses will be a small part of what you'll learn. the most important thing is as always passion and the will to stick through it

I don't think script kiddies understand Bayesian statistics and VC theory though.

Do whatever you wish, math people have a fairly safe career path regardless of what they do.

For industry purposes Data science or ML crap is more compatible, but seriously, whatever you pick is fine.
