My only experience with Death Note was reading the first chapter that was early released in a Shonen Jump magazine that was laying around in my orthodontists' waiting room.

Seemed like a neat enough concept but I can't imagine writing a long shonen about it without it going off the rails

The zoomer that auctioned it to the US government was cooler.

It didn't go off the rails. That's the problem.

Adulthood is realizing that they were both immature morons and that power should be kept out of the hands of children.

childhood is sympathizing with light. adulthood is realizing you should have had the book because light was made retarded for plot purposes

I like death note. I like that it follows the villain until he loses. Very cool story structure.

His dad with the shinigami eyes was really cool. I think he would have been an interesting Kira, because of his stronger sense of justice and preferences of peace, but far more experience with death.

sort of. The entire story up until L's death is pretty right. The higuchi arc might turn off some viewers but I think the machinations of Kira when he no longer has the death note are the best part of the series. Light manipulating himself, or at least perfectly accounting for his own behaviour, is just cool to watch. The slow unravelling of Kira's plans.

This anime would have been so much better if it made an effort to be morally ambiguous instead of turning Light into a fisher price version of hitler

Bro he thought killing people for stealing candy bars was a just punishment. Some people choose to do crime because they can or because they lack self-control, but the vast majority of crime in the world is done for survival in extreme poverty.
