Who are the types of people you have never really understood? I will start.

>1 Gamblers
I have never understood gamblers. Like Casino addicts or whatever. How is it that you can't stop gambling when you can actively see your money disappear and what not? I will never understood people who gamble down to their last dollar too. I can understand gambling a bit for fun or whatever. But some people go super hard on it up until they are trying to sell their car for money to gamble more or whatever. I don't understand the addiction component I guess.

>2 Cheaters
I have never been in a position to even cheat(never had a girlfriend) but even if I did, I wouldn't ever cheat. Mostly because it seems insanely cumbersome to do it. I already have issues keeping in contact with one woman enough to the point where she won't get bored of me. Keeping up with multiple women seems insane to me. A friend once told me that its a WAAY different story if you are a man that women want for whatever reason. Basically, if you never get offers, there is never the temptation.

>3 Alcoholics
I guess this is another addition related one but Alcoholism seems so insane to me. I drink socially and even then I kind of hate the taste of alcohol. Its sort of nice but I can immediately tell when I have had too much or at my limit and I just don't want to drink anymore. Not even sure how people get drunk off beers. Beer in particular seems full retard to me because not only is it alcoholic but its filling too. So now you just feel drunk and full which seems like a scam if you trying to have fun.

Anyway, what other types of people don't you understand?

>I kind of hate the taste of alcohol
I do too, but the difference between you and me is that I just want to get drunk and the more you drink the less you care about the taste.
>Not even sure how people get drunk off beers
It's hard to get drunk on beer unless you go for the strong stuff and like you said, its filling. If I want to get drunk I go for wine.

I'm not an alcoholic, but here is why I get drunk
>makes me forget about my worries
>makes me feel relaxed.

Gamblers I assume just have low impulse control and get a thrill from the risk of losing money, and a high from the infrequent payoffs. Cheaters are just selfish, immoral people who have no problem lying to people they claim to love.

Alcoholics I can understand all too well. Drinking is fun in social settings, after a few drinks you start to feel the buzz and it acts as a cure for mild autism and is a social lubricant. It also helps dull the misery of existence and that alone can make it quite addictive.

Conversely, I can't understand people who do hard drugs. How the fuck does someone say "Heroin you say? Sure I'll give that a try, it's harmless right?" Or "Oh, you're smoking meth? I've heard good things about that and I've been wanting to give it a try for a while now!"
For me even smoking pot just makes me paranoid, and I've known far too many "chronics" to believe pot is anywhere near as harmless as they say it is.

But the people I REALLY don't understand are the religious. Since I live in a mostly christian country I'm mostly talking about christians, but I don't think they're better or worse than other believers.

I can understand how people were religious back in the middle ages, when most people were illiterate peasants who had never even seen a book. But the fact that in this modern age when everyone has instant access to the sum total of all human knowledge, and they STILL believe a nonsensical, contradictory book full of fairy stories about a miserable angry god who simultaneously becomes his own son and then "dies for our sins" is just incomprehensible to me. The fact that these believers feel a sense of superiority because they believe this stuff IN SPITE of how unbelievable it is in equal parts baffling and infuriating.

The human brain has one purpose, performing activities that give it random intermittent rewards.
Activities that constantly reward you are boring. Activities that don't reward you are pointless.
Gambling is a perfect fit for what your brain is designed to do.
>cheaters
Gee, I wonder why a sexually reproducing species aggressively seeks out sex with as many other individuals as possible.
>alcoholics
Alcohol makes you more likely to take risks, taking risks is fun, you do the math.

It's learned helplessness. You go out, you try something new, it backfires hard. Repeat 1000 times starting from early childhood. You are now a 30-year-old shut-in with no desire to leave his house. No amount of "bro if ur so depressed y dont u just travel" posts can get you out of it.

I mean yeah you can play at being the intellectual man of leisure or something but if you're not savant level good luck committing to anything that has zero application or utility and almost zero avenue for discussion even with the internet

Gamblers, at least the people who play with machines, are the victims of an industry that has teams of expert programmers, behavioral psychologists, designers (graphic, sound, ergonomics, interiors) who are diligently working 24/7 to find ways to keep people hooked to machines.
The people who play with these machines often don't even play for money, they play to keep playing. They enter into a mental state in which time disappears (casino interiors are also designed maze-like, without clocks or windows for this reason) and they become "one" with the machine. It's the mental state Csikszentmihalyi defines as "flow", and it's what happens to people engaged in sports, competitive gaming, or criminal behaviours. But the machines are designed to never be boring (despite being the same thing) and simulate perfect contingency while at the same time offering the illusion of randomness.

Its actually pretty brutal when you put it like that. Some people don't realize that some peoples lives are rife with seemingly infinite failure. Those failures just makes you extremely anti-risk. I noticed that in myself. Anything that I tried would end up in failure somehow. I do still try when I can but its tiresome. Especially when you start looking at the lives of others and their lives seem like a more healthy balance of success and failure.

some people are just not cut out for success, why would you burn yourself trying over and over again only to fail and being brutally put down

I've been told you can break out of this pattern though therapy, antidepressants or art.
Actually checking has proven too difficult.

People for whom nothing seems to be good enough. Like, I have some things for which I hold high standards and won't compromise, but there are people out there who seem to be like that with everything. If I read Amazon reviews, or worse yet reviews for stuff like apartments or restaurants on Google Maps, it's insane to me how some people seem to just expect perfection out of everything and the most minor of flaws apparently deserves a one-star review in their eyes. A lot of it is about how they were treated by the staff/customer service too, which is even more perplexing to me because I could not care less in most cases as long as the product or whatever thing I'm purchasing itself is good.

It applies to stuff like relationships too. Some people want so much out of their partner, they have huge lists of qualities they are looking for and they cannot accommodate anyone who is even slightly not a perfect fit for them, or if they have just one annoying habit or what have you.

Meanwhile I'm just kind of fine with whatever for most things.

Narcissists. Why are they so illogical. It's like they just make up shit in their head and demand that it's true. And everyone secretly hates them

I didn't lose my virginity until last year at age 29. I am in a committed relationship and I've still cheated because I look for it and I've become numb to any feelings of remorse. I know I am probably an outlier, but you can be undesireable and still be unfaithful to a woman. I'd argue it's worse if you've only ever been with one woman cause you'll wonder what others are like.
