Israel has been claiming Iran has been developing nuclear weapons since 1979. Look it up if you don't believe me. Even now nobody is claiming Iran was anywhere near developing nuclear weapons. Iran has agreed to every treaty saying they won't develop nuclear weapons, has allowed foreign inspectors in their nuclear energy program, all in the hopes of lifting punishing economic sanctions imposed on them by the US at the behest of Israel.
Maybe you're too young to remember the Iraq war. Before the war they were claiming that Saddam Hussein was on the verge of developing "weapons of mass destruction". Of course after Iraq was destroyed it turned out there never were any weapons of mass destruction and the official story changed to "Saddam Hussein was a bad guy so we had to do a regime change".
The truth is Israel can't bear the thought of any of their neighbours even having the potential to resist their genocide of Palestinians, so they get the US (which they control) to destroy them.
