It's performative. Men live in constant competition with all other men because only the "best" men get to mate. Feminism asserts that men are "bad" if they are aggressive in their pursuit of mates, and guys like this fell for it and believe that if they act the opposite way, it will make them "good" and therefore more likely to find a mate. But feminism is full of shit, women are not interested in this sort of man. Further, he obviously would not have the confidence or physical strength to stand up to a misogynist.
