bass in music is like salt in the soup. Add a little and it will make the soup better but you might not directly attribute it to the bass. You just think its a good soup. Add too much and you ruin the soup (too salty). Add no bass and the soup feels bland. Very underappreciated instrument

For me, drums is one of the most important parts of any band. Free improv music without drums isn't nearly as good as free improv music with.

Rhythm section is the backbone of any good band. So the vegetables, meat and water.
Melody section is more like the salt and spices
