You have to be accurate and make one swing count. Aim for the head and don't do a full swing that leaves you exposed. If you know you're going to fight with it put a sock or something over the top so they person grabs and pulls they just get the sock, works one time. Mostly because bats are scary to those to don't know how to fight and are good for intimidation
