Had an interview for a lab tech position on Thursday and got rejected overnight just today. What is the point anymore. I've been looking for a job for over a year and I've interviewed for maybe a handful of positions.

Companies are not hiring. They don't want new people. They just put up these listings to make it look like they're growing. They never intend to actually hire anyone. I'm so destitute at this point, I have no hope for the future or for getting any sort of career started. It all just seems worthless.

So you got it online, got an interview and still failed? Most of the time you only get an interview through friends cause applying online is outright waste of time due to amount of ghost jobs and fuckton of competition. Was there a practical test considering its a lab? did they tell you why you failed or at least you theorize why?

same shit here
>go to university for computer engineering at 16 years old
>1570 SAT, perfect GPA, 35 ACT
>already have my associates degree from community college so i should be able to graduate at 18
>CC courses were literally easier than highschool
>nope, all of the initial courses are designed to filter students out
>also all of the people here are going to treat you like a sexless alien
>get ostracized, depressed, burnt out, and fail for two years
>flunk out and change degree to a granola environmental field because don't want to be the computer nerd punching bag anymore
>graduate at 20, get outdoorsy job with state making $10k under median salary despite possessing a advanced degree
>work for 3 years and get continuing education certs, get raises where i'm actually getting paid decently
>now qualify for jobs where i can actually make more than a retail manager
>nope, blumpf axes environmental funding and I get laid off
>can't even find a job because now everything environmental is "woke" i guess
>can't even make a lateral move because every company wants to pay less than $20/hr for a non-stem bachelors degree with 5 years experience
>basically no options besides going back to school or working "dumb jobs" for half my annual salary
>parents begging me to go back to school and study a "real degree" and get on anxiety/depression meds
Guess I should've studied harder so i could read and send emails all day or developed an app for on-demand fart porn in my spare time or something

Yeah. You have to apply online, I don't know what to tell you anon, even jobs that I get interviews for through friends and family I have to apply online for. There wasn't a test and they didn't tell me why I failed, I sort of assume it was because I was awkward during the interview out of nervousness.
>>81647171
Yeah I can't even get non-bachelors jobs at this point. I think I may have to try going back to school if I don't get anything. This shit sucks

Not the point. You are looking for a job with CC degree. Isn't AI taking your job as we speak? Sure you could argue how you are still needed to operate AI and how there are certain things AI can't do but HR and your boss do not care if it means they can get a half ass job instead and pocket whatever was originally meant to pay you.

I've also been at it for just over a year now looking for similar roles. It's probably even harder as of a month ago now that we have to compete with 2025 grads too.

Feels bad knowing that my resume gap is growing and my life is basically on hold until I can get some money to start actually doing things with and saving up for the future.

I've been working my ass off for the past five years making sure to keep my grades high and trying to work my way into any little opportunity (internship/research) that I can, and my life situation right now is no different than it would be if I spent all that time playing video games and cooming instead.

>>81647154
NTA but getting an interview isn't TOO hard for a role like this. There's never any kind of knowledge test, at least not at the entry level roles I've been going for. They generally bring you in for an in-person second interview and tour of the facility as long as you don't fuck anything up too bad.

But then they ghost you lol.

>why
Because at least thirty pajeets also got to that stage.

honestly the economy is a sham and 90% of job postings that make over $15/hr are for like nurses, marketing/sales shit, teachers, or delivery/truck drivers.
there are no like white collar jobs unless you have a computer or business degree that is in demand, and if you do, you have to compete with hundreds or thousands of people for a single job opening.
>>81647284
i have a degree from literally one of the top 10 public universities in the US, and one of the top 3 schools in the entire WORLD for my specific degree.
yes, AI is an issue and I think people are underestimaing it's impact, but the real problem is that the job market (and society as a whole) is completely tempermental and motivated by public opinion/policy. the reason i do not have a decent paying job RIGHT NOW is because a vocal plurality retards essentially decided my entire field was "woke BS"
plus you have to realize that there literally is an active conspiracy by rich retards like Musk and Thiel to stop wage growth and crash the economy

the job market is ass. no idea why i was forced to get an education for 18+4 years but not forced into a job, the latter of which is the whole point.

Okay listen up faggots because im about to teach you what your father should have.
The real secret to finding a job in a shit economy is to look where others are not. Those job boards are completely cooked, you have to figure out what businesses exist in your area that are in your line of work, then you have to contact them individually to see if they are hiring. Every company is hiring or will be hiring soon so don't wait until they put up the ad, hit them up by email and put in a resume.
Also, you need to tweak each application to use the exact same buzzwords as whats in the job posting. These hiring managers are skimming resumes looking for matching buzzwords. Any resume sent without matching buzzwords is a wasted opportunity.

should I give them a firm handshake too?
i've also literally tried this method and they just straight up tell you to look on indeed. also, you could apply to like 10x the amount of jobs online in the same amount of time it takes you to physically apply for jobs in person.
the second bit of advice you offer is literal the first drooling baby advice everyone gives on reddit. no amount of resume polish or interview prep is gonna out-effort a straight up shit job market in a stagnating economy where companies are actively trying to suppress wages

Get with the times old man. This is old news obvious to anyone with a quarter of a brain. Everybody already does it, and it has ceased to exist as a viable route due to oversaturation.

Then you're not even remotely in the same boat as us. There is a lack of ENTRY LEVEL jobs.
Every single company has dozens of listings for senior this, lead that, or XYZ manager.
