It is, in fact, a scam. Like there is a game with some of the features that were promised, and some things work, but there is an enormous amount of things that don't work. Last I tried maybe a year ago, the most basic starter delivery missions were still bugged 50% of the time. Which is about as good as they were like, 7 years ago when they were introduced.
Even if everything actually worked, it's still plagued by poor game design, where some basic ass things take way too long. Imagine loading the game, waking up in designated city living quarter, spending at least 5 (often 10) minutes traveling through a city to get to the landing zone, spawning your ship, elevatoring and navigating to your assigned landing pad (another 5 minutes), and then your ship gliches and explodes. Now you have to file an insurance claim, which takes some ingame minutes to get your ship replaced (cheap ships 1-2 minutes, larger ships much longer), and then the extra 5 minutes spawning it again.
The only thing I can give them is that it's very pretty to look at, but otherwise it's a dumpsterfire. And when you consider how much was promised, with what timeframe, and what they have now, it is a scam.
