More often than not its for releasing people that should be kept away from others for life wayy to early so they can repeat whatever go them in trouble in the first place.

Plea deals are good when they're given to people unlikely to reoffend. My issue with them is when they're given to people who will clearly reoffend. At that point they are only being offered the deal to save resources by not having to prosecute them and I just don't like that being the reason we have to let those people back on the streets.
And I think it might even work out to take more resources by giving them the plea deal. There's the consequences of the crime, the police work to investigate and arrest them, the lawyers for both sides, and all the court staff. All of that is required for every arrest, so reducing the number of times those people get arrested could save a lot of resources. More than carrying out a trial to completion, and maybe even more than the cost of imprisonment.
