Or do you remain completely neutral and stone faced? If you don't look like you're enjoying the interaction and look like you're being bothered, then people won't want to approach you again.
You also don't have to be quick, that's how you become condescending. You have to put thought into your responses. If you don't know something, then say you don't know and need to think about it some more.
