I see no compelling reason to believe in the biblical version of him. The OT is full of bad history and wacky magical woo-woo and a lot of the NT was written long after Jesus was dead. Even if it wasn't I'm simply not going to believe in a man with magic powers.

The whole story is kinda weird. God wants to save us from hell and from satan (that he allowed to exist in the first place), which is a punishment for our wicked nature (that he knew about from the very beginning, and created us that way).

Practically, we should be grateful because god solved an issue that was created by god in the first place, and to dedicate our whole life on earth to stroking his ego and telling him how great he is, and ideally not asking anything 'wordly' of him.

It all sounds extremely lame and boring and narcissistic

Because allowing newborns to die of cancer or allowing people to be bombed while sleeping in their beds in Ukraine/Gaza makes no sense at all, no matter how you cut it. For example, if god was going to let these people die in pain anyway, he could've just made their parents infertile to skip the misery.
As I said, no matter how you cut it, suffering cannot exist in a world created by a supposedly perfect, all-knowing and all-powerful being. Either your god is just a myth or he exists but willingly allows suffering in the world he created, which makes him unworthy of any prayers.
