Pretty much this. Movies were better too, since Disney didn't own literally everything.

The best time to grow up as a teenager. SmartPhones weren't as good as they are now but you could still text each other. MySpace was pretty based, way better than Facebook. No adverts and you could even edit HTML/CSS so that you could personalise your page. It was a time when most people still went out and hung out at skate parks (I did with friends) and the internet hadn't taken over society yet. It was also a time when MMORPGs were a big thing and MMOs like WoW back in 2004 and 2005 were real big things. Also there was no political stance behind things. If someone made a game or had a sexy lady in a game, it was just because they wanted to. It wasn't to own the chuds or whatever. The music and media was still very creative back then too.

Unpopular opinion, but here goes. The 2000s was probably peak psychopathy in America, and I don't even think it had anything to do with 9/11. I mean, people were EVIL and got away with heinous shit. Everyone likes to assume that the period before social media was less stressful and you could be more open with your peers, but it was the opposite. Entire families would tear themselves apart over stupid drama, you'd get insulted and bullied and have zero recourse. In spite of what /pol/ would claim, a school full of whites could (and arguably still is) just as cutthroat as being around nothing but savages. Worst of all though was the clear social totem pole. Status was inarguable, and unlike today where a loser could conceivably still have a decent chance at being friends with people above his league, in the 2000s that shit just did not fly.

Also, PC gaming was a meme. Barely anyone did it, and those who did were rightfully mocked as being human garbage.

The 90s were of course much better than the 2000s. But for me at least the 2000s had the advantage of being a time where I got my dick sucked by cute teen girls.

Pros
>Zoomers didn't exist
>music was better overall
>housing market was cheaper
grew up in a huge house that would be a millions of dollars now
>sjws didn't exist
>liberals were reasonable nice people
they weren't these super offended types
>most people weren't politically involved

Cons
>actually had to buy media until 02-03'
I downloaded a shit ton of books that would have cost me hundreds of dollars back then.
>at the mercy of network TV for entertainment
>anime was hard to find and were like $29.99 a vid
I watch anime/read manga on the daily when that would have been impossible in 00-01, I remember I only watched a few 24 episode ones till I discovered limewire because my parents had me on an allowance system

>bush was a dumb fuck
>information wasn't as easy to come across as it is now
Right now I could look up a tutorial on how to make special effects in UE5, or Japanese study guides. We actually had to buy books on that shit up until 03' for basic stuff and 15-19' for really complex 3D stuff
>tube TVs burned the eyes
everyone forgets that
>No GPS
>Had to deal with the people in your immediate vicinity
>conservatives were fucking batshit INSANE
book burning and bible thumping is the norm
luckily I lived in a blue state and a upper middle class town

teenagers online 20 years ago vs teenagers online now. i have thoughts on this already, but i want to hear from other people without sharing what i think. if you're old enough to have regularly held usership on here in the 00s or if the notion of young people online now vs a couple decades ago, do you find people in this age group to probably have more differences than not, a lot alike generally, somewhere inbetween?

Yeah, the economy was better, but I remember my siblings just being evil and vile people. They would muck you every day, nonstop, and it could be based on something you said when you were 2 years old. You could ask them nicely to stop, and they never would. My mother would say it's just the pecking order and not do anything about it. My dad always treated me like shit although he treated everyone like shit. And one time I asked him to treat me with respect, and he said, "For what?" Like fuck man maybe becouse I am a human being

Teachers also loved to get in on the bullying. I got bullied a few times by peers but solved it with voilance becouse the teachers never do jack shit until after you defend yourself then you and the bully both get sent home. I never got detention for most of my schooling career; it was mostly suspensions, and it was for really small stuff. I guess the school couldn't be bothered to do detentions. Better to make me lose several weeks worth of education throughout my schooling career than be sent to detention

Also, they had really evil reality TV shows back then. They had one where they took a bunch of people who were bad at singing and tricked them into thinking they where going to win a singing competition and even got a stadium of hundreds if not thousands of people to applaud their performance (The audience played along because the producers told them these people were dying of cancer and it was a Make-A-Wish type deal)

There was this other show where they would take pretty women and not let them look at a mirror for weeks and then make them get plastic surgery and then get them to compete with each other in a beauty contest. Like, yeah, they wanted the surgeries, but the way the show did it was just cruel

Also the shitty influancer culture didn't just pop out of no where they had tv shows about "mooks" and "mid drift sluts". They programmed teens to behave this way. Men act like assholes in public and woman act like whores

yeah i think that i hate teenagers in general today and back then there was a similar teenager affinity non centricity. i think thats an ok term for it. much smaller pool of users, i think when i started coming here there was like 5-10k users total. i wouldnt change anything about my experiences in this regard but if i grew up today at that age i probably wouldnt seek out this place honestly and i dont think the type of young person who typically ends up being a user at this site today would have been popular here back then. i think they often might have found it un noteworthy and boring frankly

>>81704296
that sounds very child like i have to hand it to you

>>81704326
yeah i guess most people who ended up here back then wouldnt have been doing it as a venture of what was typical socializing and communication, even online, for the times. i think as far as intelligence goes, id assume people are more or less the same now as they were back then including teenagers. this place changes so much so rapidly, all of the time, constantly though, that people who like go to jail for example and come back years later (weirdly common, ikr) are like wtf happened to this place, because theres such a rate of change here that even a hardcore user of yesterday might not be acquainted with

anyway you guys are all complete fucking faggots and i hate you - and i mean that lovingly

>The 2000s was probably peak psychopathy in America
I would rank both the 80s and the 2020s as substantially more psychopathic than the 2000s.
The 2000s were pretty mild. George W. Bush was the token "evil" guy of that timeframe and he's actually pretty decent and didn't behave all that immorally as far as Presidents go. Compared to Trump orchestrating mass layoffs and sending people to El Salvador mega prison Bush is like a saint.
People were more on edge over terrorism, and it was a darker time than the 90s, but I didn't see all that much psychopathy happening when I was in high school in the early 2000s. It's really now where I see a lot of psychopathy and people just openly being evil in ways I wasn't seeing 20 years ago.

it was the last era before society melted into a collective goop. yeah yeah you could say the early 2010s had some sort of identity but after that humanity pretty much died and the life left everyones eyes as they fixed them on screens. when most people's experiances came from real life instead of social media.

I was eight to seventeen years old, I had a good childhood, but my school experience from middle school through highschool sucked ass and I was miserable most of the time.
It's hard to look at that time period objectively because of this, I think that some of the 00's were good, no identity politics shit being shoved down your throat 24/7, niggers and normalfags hadn't yet ruined the internet with their smartphones. I think that the occupy shit(or the power's that be reaction to it) was a big start to the destruction of the decade, even moreso than the GWOT.
I powered out of my teenage misery as an adult and I am a pretty happy and fulfilled person these days so I judge the following decade and a half less harshly.
I think kids these days have it even harder with social media bullshit, I am glad I grew up when I did, as hard as it was sometimes.
