For starters it wasn't, most cultures respected them to an almost saintly level, what happen was the orwellian shit of the second generation of feminism where they started teaching young girls that all the holding them high and dying to keep them safe and happy was some weird patriarchal system to keep them down and that real freedom was to work like their dads and fuck like their brothers.
