Where are the downsides? No one believes in vampires so I wouldn't be hunted. I guess life could get boring but at the same time it would be interesting seeing where it goes and maybe becoming scribe of ages. I've never seen vampire getting old and useless so I assume they don't age, and that's one of the reason why I wouldn't want eternal life as human: imagine getting old and useless, losing control over your own life, and having to worry about all those things. As a vampire you could most likely utilize your uniqueness to not having to worry about staying competitive with others.
