And when you have a democracy, the masses will tend to gradually vote for more and more state handouts, which requires a growth in the state to administer the handouts, and more taxes, which makes people poorer, so they vote for more handouts, the leviathan state grows, etc. Democracy is incompatible with libertarianism in the long run.
