>>81752272>Why do you have to clean out and replace? There are air channels in the top and bottom of the engine block that tend to get gunked up from the air/fuel mixture that seeps past the piston rings. The PCV allows for those gases trapped in the block to be vented back into the intake and burned so they don't gunk up harm the rotating and fast moving parts on the inside.
In my case, a rubber hose attaches to the top of engine, that connects to a plastic box near the bottom on the side of the engine.
That box has some mesh filter in it to trap oil droplets in the crankcase gasses and a hole in the side to drain them back to oil pan.
You have to remove the rubber hose and plastic box to clean the gunk out of the air channels (and oil drain hole).
While it isn't strictly necessary to replace the box and hose, you have to take them off anyway. May as well prevent a leaky hose or clogged up box by just replacing them. The parts are cheap, box + hose + various gaskets is only like 50 bucks, get at the box and hose you have to take off:
The top engine mount bar
The turbo pipe going over top the engine
the air filter box
and the intake manifold
Its overall not insanely hard to do, just a lot of bots and screw that can be kinda hard to get at.
