Was there like an earlier phase of his career when he, like, had skills and stuff? If not that, was this just the world's most successful series of roulette spins? How did such a ridiculously obvious bumbling oaf get in possession of the world's biggest fortune? This matter will be discussed for generations to come.

He's likely reasonably intelligent, or at least used to be before the drugs.

But his father's wealth is a big part, as his relentless passion to do the wrong thing and screw over everyone

With the financial safety net available is a matter of making the right choices, you don't need smarts or anything of the sort.
He correctly saw in rockets an exploitable black hole

Turns out you don't need to be good at things, you just need to be good at lying and have enough money to hire people who are good at things

Almost always through salaries, not investments, so it's not scalable.
I chose 10k because that's an amount of money many here might have. Can you turn 10m into 1b?
People always say he was rich, or that Trump got a 1m loan, but I suspect they imagine just taking that money and retiring. Multiplying it is not easy.

He was still way less rich than he's now. How did he achieve the wealth he has now? Why doesn't every millionaire just become a multi billionaire?

> His father owned an emerald mining company
Elon is many things but surprisingly nepotism is not one of them.
His father moved to South Africa because all of North America was becoming less racist.
Elon apparently hated his father's rants about this and possibly his father. Either way, he legitimately did move to America with little to nothing just to prove a point.
Somehow he got involved with PayPal as a startup and made bank. Thereby proving business can be done without the amount of racism his dad wanted.

People this rich are who they want you to see.
Either Elon wants you to see him this way or Elon is the dumb billionaire who advertises being this wealthy rather than hiding it.
It's also possible that any climb to power will breed the worst in a man.
The fame fuels you, but it's fickle because the public is fickle about who they care about.
The wealth elevates you but makes you the target of all next to you.

>be born rich
>use daddy's money to start the 90's equivalent of google maps when the internet was getting popular thanks to AOL
>immediately sell that company to start Paypal when ecommerce was taking off
>get kicked off paypal and cash out for hundreds of millions
>buy a million tiny tech startups trying to find the "next big thing"
>get lucky with an electric car company
>fire all the guys at that company and claim you founded it
>call up all your billionaire friends at silicon valley and wallstreet and convince them YOUR electric car company would be THE electric car company and they should totally invest
>IPO gets fattened up with VC money from your friends to end up with a company larger than every other auto company combined despite never producing a single car
>use this hype to convince incels to worship you and invest their life savings into your fake car company
>buy twitter and reveal yourself as a retard but it's too late you're already rich and even if you burned a billion dollars a day for the rest of your life will never be poor due to the corruption of the global banking system
It's pretty much the same story of every billionaire desu just be born to rich parents and use your privilege to get in early on something other people don't have the money to do.

being powerful and rich is not about being qualified or intelligent, it comes down to two things:
1: your luck
2: how good you are at manipulating stupid people

trump is the most powerful person in the world right now, and elon is the wealthiest.
there is no meritocracy, and while this is depressing, we also have to thank america for showing the world just how undeniable this fact is. its especially good because of how much america is imploding right now thanks to these people finding positions of influence. its going to be great to use this as an example in the decades to come, even if the cost is a polluted world and a destroyed america

He got lucky with his first business idea creating a city guide or whatever it was.
And then after that it's like when you get ahead in poker and can just lean on the momentum of your giant chip stack to keep getting even further ahead of your opponents.

Devils luck with his spawn point. Then he put every point into CHA and LCK despite being autist and typical autist builds being heavy on INT. This novel meta approach to the ruleset guiding our universe resulted in a big payoff. He amassed wealth, but that is nothing compared to the power and influence he's attained. He's lightning in a bottle and replication is unlikely to yield the same results. He is le rebbit irl iron man, everyone seems to love him. I recognize the good he has done in making ultra high speed internet access available in previously unserviceable areas. But there's clearly more to it than launching some satellites and starting a toy company selling flame throwers.
I admire his naivety and authenticity. The man just wants to reach for the stars. A ridiculous dream, yet he has made remarkable progress and even occupies some of the highest seats of power in the nation. Bezos is launching rockets too, he is absurdly wealthy, but for some reason he is painted as an evil figure while musk is for the most part well liked and a sort of celebrity. How and why this is I have no idea. They are two similar figures seen in two dramatically different lights.
