We don't differentiate between jail and prison, everyone goes to prison. So if you are falsely accused of a crime, you go to prison on something called remand.

Remand is where you wait for your court date. So you are technically innocent, and the first opportunity your lawyer will have to present evidence expoerating you could be months away. Meanwhile you spend time in prison next to convicted criminals. So even if youre found innocent, and the courts say "yes we had the wrong person", youve still experienced prison and all the negative things that involves
