Does bedrotting and neeting in general cause a deterioration in memory? I cannot remember the names of anyone a grew up with and I am only 28.

Of course it does, use it or lose it applies to your brain too.

if you're depressed and not going anything then yeah, depression can cause minor brain damage

neeting for like 5 years and my memory is god awful. my childhood never happened basically. high school already never happend even though it just happened apparently. dont remember anything in pop culture so I can't talk about anything. "what's favorite movie" idk suddenly I can't recall any movies ever. terminally online ppl are often able to have some conversations about internet but it's like I can't recall those fun facts or lolcows to talk about, just nothing comes to mind.

I remember a lot of that stuff perfectly fine. It's mainly the stuff I was doing during NEET session that I forgot. That said, I'll remember a lot of it if I have some sort of reminder, it always feels like it's there but not easy to access on my own.

there are many things from my childhood that i do remember. but things relating to school? no. once i got home from school, i completely disregarded it all. in a recent conversation i had with my brother, he mentioned a few old friends i couldn't remember the names of.

The biggest problem I'm experiencing is that I'm just bedridden and mentally not there. I try to sit at my desk and do something for a few minutes and I can't do it so I just go back to bed.

Playing a videogame is literally impossible for me. I would lose interest in a 5 minutes and just sitting up feels annoying.

Former hikkiNEET from 2006 to 2011. It caused some fuzzy thinking, but it didn't effect long-term memory, no. It might help that I enjoyed being a NEET and didn't view it as distressing; I'm an actual robot rather than a cyborg or failed normie, so unlike most of r9k I'm not clingy enough to want to be joined at the hip with others and socializing 24/7.

NEETing accelerates time. I blinked and 5 years passed. Then another 7.

Yes. Though part of that was finally letting go of any nostalgia for the people that I knew when I was a kid.
Almost none stayed in touch, though I never wanted them to know what a failure at life I turned out to be.
Two decades of NEETdom is easier to bear when one is totally alone. I just wish I could have unpaid sex.

Its more of a depression thing. Bedrotting is comorbidity to it. Depression cuts off your long term memory, hence why depressed people have very low critical thinking capacity in regards to their own lives

severe social isolation and physical inactivity is noted to have a negative impact on all cognitive functions including memory, reasoning skills, and emotional expression/sympathy. Which can be exacerbated by a poor diet, irregular sleep schedule, and poor hygiene.
If you experience any of these listed effects/habits then it can be a sign that bedrotting/neeting is the cause for a lot of your problems.
However, being only 28 and not being able to recall ANY of the names of people you knew could be a sign of a worse problem. such as severe depression for example.
In worse case scenarios it could be a sign of something much more deeper and much more severe. Such as a brain tumor or brain damage. I would recommend seeing a doctor if such a problem is a serious concern of yours. especially if you have a family history of brain damage or issues, or severe drug usage, or even head trauma in the past. Even a regular check up could probably do you a world of wonders.

Yeah, I used to be pretty sharp. After years of severe depression, social isolation, and daily weed smoking I am basically retarded now.

Yeah it can although my memory is still really sharp despite rotting a lot in life and I'm your same age. Tbf I was almost never a NEET. But outside of work I spend basically all my time bedrotting happily

It's the weed anon. Smoking weed daily burns you the fuck out, even if you're really young. I was a huge pothead when I was maybe 19 - 22ish and that really turns you into a plant if you do it. It's a comfy numb for sure but you end up burnt out asf. I'm a man now and I do opiates like a proper adult

You have to constantly be using every portion of your body in some gainful way in order to maintain it. Your brain is an organ too, your memory, thoughts, and mood is a result of bioelectrical impulses that strengthen themselves through repetitive use.

Doing nothing is literally the worst thing you can do to yourself, you might as well just kill yourself because you're dying either way

Doing nothing is what animals do when they reach a state of hopelessness. Depression is what we call it in humans but animals in captivity reach similar state without proper simulation.

It stems to nothing being rewarding to your base psyche. You lie down and wait for death because there is no action or set of actions that you can truly believe will benefit you in a way that matters. It's not rotmaxxers fault, it's literally a rational response.

And I say this as a "functional" member of society.

Perfect example of what I mean right here. Lie down and rot is a global phenomenon China had and probably still has similar movement and Japan had hikkis before anyone else on earth.
