Without even watching the video, here are chords you can use to make your music sound more nostalgic:

>5 chords (i.e., only octaves and fifths, omit the thirds)
>add9 chords - add the 9th at least an octave above the base note
>major maj7 chords - add the major 7th at least an octave above the base note
>minor chords with a minor 7th - add the minor 7th to a minor chord

Listening to the music: I think this is mostly about the timbre of the electronic sounds he's making
