Things are not as bad as the internet will make you think
>research has found that people are 16x as likely to report a negative story as a positive story. You are getting a massive negativity ratio.

>Only around 12% of people use the internet for socializing in an anonymous manner. That means, posting on things like reddit, 4chan, or twitter. Normal people aren't on these places and don't hold the kinds of opinions you encounter.

>The internet is also a vector for sociological demoralization propaganda

Stop watching porn
>Over 50 neuroscience studies find that porn has neurobiological effects similar to substance addiction. It will give you general worsened cognitive function and emotional health. Quitting will completely reverse the negative effects in about a year.

yourbrainonporn.com

Stop browsing the internet
>Over 250 neuroscience studies, an absolute mountain, have found negative effects on the brain from browsing the internet too much. Worsened attention span, working memory, 'scene construction' (the abililty to keep track of things and events in relation to eachother), increase in depression, and emotional desensitization.

How to quit using the internet:
I don't want to get too deep into the neurocognitive mechanics but basically, what makes the internet addictive is
>rapid context changing (going from one thing to another frequently)
>endless novelty (there's an endless ocean of unseen content)
>rapid, repetitive, instant, low-effort rewords, you can just hit f5 and get new content indefinitely.

So what you want to avoid are
>feeds
>recommendations/suggestions/links being shown to you
>comment sections

*YOU CAN DISABLE ALMOST ALL OF THOSE THINGS NOWADAYS*
There is a MASSIVE ecosystem of browser add-ons and proxy sites that will remove all the addictive elements from various social media sites. For example I use Unhook for youtube. It completely removes the video recommendations on the side panel and on the home page, removes all comments, etc.

For browsing
Just looking shit up on the internet is itself not good for the brain - you have to rapidly sort through lots of links and pages (a lot of them are shit containing irrelevant information).
>Nowdays, you can increasingly just use AI to search for you and get the links/information you need without ever having to opent he browser. Do that.

>You can also get a web blocker like Freedom to make it so that the browser is only available certain times of the day. You can download anything you need during the open windows

What about off-browser shit? Desktop activity?
For the most part, most activities that aren't actually on the web browser are not addictive in the same way. Research has actually found mostly positive effects of things like moderate videogame usage. Likewise, art programs, coding, spotify, software/software development, music making, etc. are all fine and probably very good for you. The only exception is certain videogames that are designed to be addictive like MMOs, MOBAs, or any game where people spend thousands of hours on a single game, you should exercise lots of caution with those.

>But I'm a college dropout NEET, it's over for me, I can't re-enter society

Are you average or above average intelligence? Then this is bull. There is a massive shortage of blue-collar tech work right now. Not computer programming - real world tech work. There's been massive brain drain into computer science so there's a hue shortage of PLC engineers, CNC programmers, linemen, andn a whole list of other skills. A lot of these skills can be learned in like *3-4 months* to an employable level, and you can make 100,000$+ dollars a year.

>Love is a lie, people all suck, women suck, everything sucks, I don't want to go outside
There's some truth to this but it's only a partial view of reality. A lot of it is shitty but there's exceptions. There was story of a vietnamese businesswoman who's ukrainian husband was injured. She sold her business at huge personal eexpense and flew back home to care for him. When asked about it she said "I'd do it again, I love him"

Sometimes life is like a videogame where you have to spend a lot of time grinding for loot before you find what you want. Just because most of the items that drop aren't what you want doesn't mean you can't get good drops if you keep at it.

If you're in your 20's these are the most important years of your life. Do not waste a single hour scrolling, the clock is ticking and you will never get that time back

also to clarify
>Yes, most people are online very often
>For the most part, they are only using the internet to interact with *people they know in real life*, or people in their general community or social groups (via facebook, instagram, twitter, etc)
>Most people do not regularly interact with strangers online. They may do so occasionally but not frequently
>The people who do this frequently tend to be weird - higher chance of autism, anti-personality disorder, general mental illness, etc

Thats nothing youre still young until your mid 30s dummy

Lots of people lose their career at 30 or 40 and have to start over. Its very normal for men in early 30s to meet a girl and get married a couple years later at 34 or 35. 24 is the perfect time

Was a NEET from 2020-2024
Got my first job at the beginning of this year
I have no idea how to talk to people.

I guess I can agree that the internet isn't good for me. I'm going to be honest, when I come home from work I just jerk off and mindlessly browse 4chan. I barely even play video games or watch anime anymore. Bought a bunch of video games and a console and don't play them. All because porn takes precedence and I can end up spending hours just jerking off + browsing. My memory is also pretty bad now and I feel low energy. Excessive porn and internet usage is definitely a negative, but I don't know if I have the willpower to cut it

i'm sorry OP this is barely related to your thread. but it's a rant i have to make

back in 2015 i discovered 4chan and it expanded my mind SO much it was like dropping psychedelics. fast forward to 2025 though, and the vibe is totally different. you know, back in 2015 we'd always do stuff like share a random song/movie/video we loved and then people would go oh hey that looks cool! and they check it out and suddenly everyone is all excited talking about this cool new thing. but now it feels like the opposite. everyone became an adult and now they don't like new things anymore

so in january i started using insta more, and it was crazy because that vibe of optimism and curiosity was still there. all the time people just share cool artists, games, shows and then in the comments people are like yeah i love this thing! most people on insta (in my circles) are 18-25, whereas i think places like this are more in their 30s. and i just wonder, what happens to adults? why do they stop caring about the world? most adults are like this, they're kinda spiritually dead in some way. and it will happen to everyone, even you, unless you fight it. if you don't, you're gonna become boring, self-centered, and narrow-minded. i hope everyone chooses to fight

cuckchan has the best ROI of socializing
IRL, people are as retarded, naive, lazy, irresponsible, bitter, and malicious as 4channers, but you're also supposed to entertain them seriously, or you're basically a criminal
here I can remind you you're a faggot, and this reminder benefits us both

man i've been coming to various boards and largely here since 2007 and it never fucked me in the head too bad, you just can't take it so seriously and realize where you're at. i suppose some people are unable to do that; highly unfortunate for them!

The scientific consensus on whether porn decisively is good or bad hasn't been settled. Not sure why people keep parroting that lie.
