>Brother took me out for dinner
>I'm deaf so we were talking in ASL
>Some old woman stopped at the table and asked us why we were shaking our hands like that, brother told her that I was deaf
>She said that I was too young to be deaf and walked away angrily
What the fuck does that genuinely mean?

For some bizarre reason disabilities make NPCs seethe. I've seen blind people (who walk around in public with canes) talk about how common it is for retards to confront them and try to test if they're "really blind" or interrogate them about all kinds of stupid shit. Same for this guy I know who can't smell. For some reason whenever he mentions it, people will say utterly obnoxious shit

they equate youth = being healthy so seeing a disabled young guy in her mind implies that that young man fucked up

She was expressing her anger with the unfairness of life and how people arbitrarily get fucked by it.
She was expressing her anger over your lost youth, over how unfair it was for someone so young to not be able to fully enjoy being young because of their disability.

She's retarded and conflated being deaf with old age.

Maybe it was an attempt at a shitty joke. Old fags are always making shitty jokes.

I guess people lose their hearing as they get older so statistically you should be older?

>For some bizarre reason
A quirk arising from the conflict between opposing evolutionary forces. On one hand, we are supposed to cast out cripples because they may pose a biological risk to the rest of us (even if their disability isn't communicable, we can only know that scientifically...but evolutionary instincts are based on that type of epistemological knowledge; they're more reactive).
But on the other hand, the system of morality we've developed incentivizes us to not only not abandon the disabled but cater especially to them, because that is the point of developing a society. Trust. Safety. Any one of us could become disabled at any time, and thus our chances are all improved if we all take part in an unspoken promise to care for the most vulnerable members of our social networks.
Both of these incentives arose from evolutionary necessity, and they both oppose each other, resulting in internal conflicts many people can't put a finger on or resolve. Morality won out in the end, but not 100%, which is why senseless ableism still exists despite morality.
