Almost every single character in Buffy was an asshole. Xander was absolutely vile and horrifically vindictive sometimes and the worst example, but almost everyone except Oz and Tara were cunts to varying degrees. I remember them making fun of Giles in Season 2 for "probably being a virgin," which I thought was pretty awful.

Everyone wants to make the new Firefly, because it was cancelled too soon. They don't realize they can't get that audience though, a show has to be designed to know when to be serious and when not to be. Everyone who immitates his style and makes all these awful shows and movies with cringe writing just make every character insincere and superhuman, so there never is anything serious and nothing is ever at stake.
