I have diagnosed "mental illnesses" and disabilities but I basically never talk about them because they're not important. Going to a book club or something and hearing the most normalfag women talk about being AuDHD or whatever is just infuriating, because I was diagnosed with autism as a kid and my peers tried to kill me a few times because they were so disgusted by what a freak I was. It feels... I dunno, reductive and diminishing to claim you have a mental disorder or disease because you struggle to make phone calls sometimes or whatever.
I physically couldn't make eye contact with people until I forced myself to learn how to, and I was locked in dark rooms and given lectures on how to be less of a freak by cruel old women as a part of my "therapy". That is not the same as enjoying Dark Romantasy more than other women, Rebecca.
