Yeah. They were common and cheap enough in the 90s for a little fun. Schools used to not give too much a shit if you had one in your backpack. There was time a kid brought a bb gun to class and he got detention for about a day before he came back to class and everything was normal as usual. He brought it by accident since most kids in my school had families that like to go hunting and we would get bb guns to pretend like we were helping.
This was before Columbine happened btw.

massively as a kid i even had a short rifle made out of a pipe and wood with a spring hammer that i would use.

Kids still use them during winter mostly you can hear firecrackers and these only now they also come with flares? small rockets that can be fired from them so you can see those too.

I remember you could also get rolls of them on paper. I can't even remember the guns that used those though.
