Because I'm the complete opposite of rigidly routined, I prefer spontaneity instead of predictability, I have no real sensory issues that I can think of, I hop from hobby to hobby monthly, and I DO recognize social cues, I just don't care to use them. Not everyone who's unique or awkward is "autistic", autism a specific condition, not to mention one that many other disorders can easily be mistaken for.

I'm pretty sure I am. Tested at 30th percentile; cusp of mild and severe. Naturally, it's taking years for a formal test and diagnosis.
It has become politically incorrect to diagnose autists, and thereby justify their unemployability in this shit economy, and therefore their 'bux requirements.
Fortunately, I already get 'bux; but I want my 'tism on the record someday, so they can never take it away from me, or put me back on pointless appointments.

I will never understand the desire to be diagnosed or pride in ever having autism. Not only is it rare, it overlaps with other disorders such as narcissism (by about ~60%). Every time I interact with these freaks, they act like they are on the verge of curing cancer by rotting inside or being slightly above average at ping-pong. Theres never any traits or characteristics that make them relatable and many autists I have interacted with are both socially and intellectually impaired. Literally the definition of "I have no mouth but I must scream".

So by believing they have some special talents they can keep from fitting into society and not feel bad about it, while the other way around they will feel disadvantaged while feeling the urge to fit in anyway.

And modern culture is just very unforgiving. People are very scared of doing their own thing, so anything that deviates from normal literally activates their fight-flight response, making you the "enemy". People just are not themselves.

Then I too am a statistical anomaly. I lost my v card a 25 and im as neurotypical as they come. Ive had girls show interest since I was a kid and got asked out by a girl in college. I didnt lose it earlier because I wanted to be with a girl I felt I had shit in common with, not because they liked my face. Im actually really good at reading social cues and body language, love trying new foods, have no sensory issues, im spontaneous and hate planning and routines, i dont struggle focusing on a task, im adaptive/reactive over being rigid and i like meeting new people as long as theyre not idiots and trashy.

I'm starting to wonder if I am actually. I always dismissed the idea because generally I am very socially aware and get along with everyone, I just prefer solitude. ideally, there'd be a cure. 'neurodiversity' is all well and good, but take other cases where a child's brain hasn't developed typically. language acquisition or similar. if you could just install that in their brains as adults, you would. it's a problem to be solved.

It's the opinion of one psychiatrist, another may have a different one and there's no objective way to tell which of both is wrong, unlike corporal medicine where if one doctor says you have cancer and the other doesn't, one of them is just wrong.

When I was a child, I got told that I had ADD, then many years later, I got told that I had Asperger's too. I got placed on an IEP and was medicated. Most of the people I get along with are ND, as well. I've had some NTs try telling me that I don't act like I have ADD or Asperger's, though, so I don't know. Maybe I've just got better at masking?
