And then you have guys like picrel, who used to write an unknown blog for 10 years with no traction at all but kept persisting when finally 10 years later he got recognition and fame.

But it took 10 years of him grinding nonstop dedicating his life to technology while literally being about NOTHING ELSE in his life.

No girls, no wife, no grooming, overweight, terrible fashion, and even with money and fame he DOESN'T CARE.

how is that possible?

I admit I'm a good looking guy lost in 4chan and I am a hardcore gamer too, but if I don't talk to a girl for 2 days I start going insane. I need femininity in my life and thankfully I haven't gone a week without sex for 2 years but even the idea of being a lonely loser and being fine with it is INSANE to me

I'm finally getting around to reading Theodore Kaczynski's Anti-Tech revolution. It's the second book I've read with the word anti in the title this year, but that's neither here nor there.
I try to imagine the level of conviction required for him to mail those packages. Even if I disagree with the premise, there's no denying that it was 100% effective in achieving his goal, and may very well have been the only way to realize it. There are very few things I would kill someone over. Self defense, defense of property from theft or damage, or an immediate threat to family are about the only things that make the list. It's hard to imagine shedding blood over ideology, but having identified an existential threat to not just humans but the greater planet as a whole, it is not terribly difficult to justify it as a utilitarian sort of self defense.
Still working through the book. I can tell he was a brilliant man. To produce such writing while suffering inhumane conditions and torture, extremely limited access to books, and communication at the speed of postal stamped letters, it's quite impressive.
I'm not sure if the problem of technology is solvable. Roko's basilisk type shit. He writes about Moore's law, and social media, parasocial relationships, and leftism being the ideology of losers. Such bright eyed optimism seems unrealistic with the current surveillance state and billions being thrown at ai for no other reason than to damn humanity to the most miserable conditions imaginable and unprecedented in the scale of misery in the totality of human history and all its miseries. He writes on people who see the extreme interdependence on technology and looming competency crisis and rightfully feel anxiety from it, read books on technology as a form of therapy to soothe the anxious thoughts. Big fan of GN and I think Steve is just autistic and as someone who scores 60-65% in online autistic spectrum tests, I think I might know why he is the way he is. I knew around my teens already that I don't have any real chance at ending up with a woman. Then as I aged into my mid 20s, I realized I don't even want to be with a woman for reasons that don't involve sex and cuddling:

Motivation is a weird animal. Some people just have a natural (or learned at a young age) drive to do things, so they get a steady supply of pleasure chemicals in their brain from doing those things, and as long as they can keep doing what they want, they don't need much else.

I always showed deep interest in computers and science and stuff, but aside from reading books, I didn't really have much opportunity to meaningfully engage in it much while growing up. By the time I figured out how important it was for my well-being to have a meaningful intellectual pursuit (i.e. a job that's not for braindead monkeys), I was 30. By the time I figure out how to actually get a real job I'll probably be 40.

I really wish I had someone to nurture and guide me with these things, because having to all of a sudden produce the motivation that you never had your whole life is... extremely difficult. That's on top of the pressure of having to meet the expectations of other people, all while trying to figure out how life works, seemingly all by yourself.
