I'm a 45-year-old neuroscientist and I've made a breakthrough so significant that it will most likely grant me Elon Musk tier fame and fortune. But there's a problem: if I ever come out in public, you guys will cancel the shit out of me.

When I was 19, I was an edgelord who said questionable things online. In my defense, it was a very different time and hindsight shaming is kinda flawed. By today's standards, I would definitely be labeled a pedo, a racist, a misogynist, a transphobe and all that stuff. And yeah, a motivated person can definitely dig that shit back up. I can already see the headlines and Twitter posts so clearly it's insane.

This is a very interesting conundrum when you think about it. There are so many celebs who fuck up and get cancelled, but in my case it would be the other way around: I was initially a nobody who had fucked up, but later rose to a significant position in society. What bothers me about my future cancellation is that they won't see the order of events. Revealing my past isn't exactly some new information or a new scandal but they'll try to play it out like that.

TL;DR: Humanity itself will decide whether I will be a Nobel prize winner or a shunned pedo. This is no longer even in my hands. This is in Twitter's hands.

What I hate about this situation is that 20-year-old zoomers will demand an apology for things I did before they were even born. To people who existed before their time.

I don't know if you've noticed but the president is a child rapist and everyone who complains about getting cancelled is usually doing it from their podcast or netflix special. If you still have access to accounts, go in them and delete as much as you can without fanfare. It's pretty likely nobody is going to miss 25 year old posts, assuming the site is still even online. You can also take advantage of modern privacy laws (California Consumer Privacy Act [CCPA], EU GDPR, "right to be forgotten", and others) to de-list yourself from people search sites and demand sites take down your posts. Archive.org at least honors requests to de-list websites and make their archives of them inaccessible to public searches. This is normally used for hate group sites, but you can take advantage of the policy for personal privacy. You won't get everything, but you'll make it really fucking hard for the average d0xxer to get you.

This. There were regular CP threads on /b/. Yeah, on this very site. The Internet was a VERY different place just 15 years ago and people were very different as well.
Nobody wants to admit this, nobody wants to talk about it, but most of us were unfathomable monsters by today's standards. We raided websites, hacked news sites, nearly made youtubers kill themselves.. anons made headlines all the time. And it wasnt serious. Like, nobody ever got sued because the Internet wasnt real. It was just comedy. Now you go to prison for text onilne.

Kids today dont know just how much more relaxed and allowing Internet culture was back in the day. Literally everything flew. If you got offended, it just meant you got successfully trolled. Nobody even uses the word "troll" anymore. They just get offended.

Anyway, Nobel Prize winners have already been cancelled for wrongthink, the most notable example is James Watson who discovered DNA. (pic related) The difference is he said things that went against the modern narrative publicly, and after he had been awarded the Nobel prize.

So yeah, I get what you're trying to do here OP. You're showing a hypothetical situation where modern cancel culture impedes human progress by denying reality and suppressing truth.
