Why are so many people rejecting friendships and relationships despite them being necessary for an optimal physical and mental state?

We know that loneliness and social isolation have the same effect on health and mortality as smoking 15 cigarettes a day, but people still refuse to connect with others.

it's not worth the effort. humans are too complex and deceptive. I'd rather just watch anime and wait for my life to end.

Because they grew up sheltered, which fostered within them a fear of.... everything. Every possible possibility that could possibly go wrong, in their mind, will go wrong.
They're completely consumed by they own neurotic thoughts and feelings that they shelter themselves from the world in an attempt to avoid their own feelings.
But.
That's not how it works... It only makes it worse. And as it gets worse they double down on their own behaviors. Making it even worse.

I have a couple of friends left that I barely see, but that's fine.
I am practically schizoid, except that I really just want to have a lot of sex; but no woman will deliver that.
No, I can't do the dating bullshit either. I just like to chill at home, so I will never be 'exciting'. All the good stuff is the sex.
Anyway, as an incel of more than 20 years, I simply never met any woman willing enough to fuck me and keep doing it.
As a NEET, I simply can't afford to finance a social life or relationship, and I don't like going out anyway.

It always crushes me how stupidly non-self-aware an average person is, I used to think the people on this site would've been better, but so many of the times they are just man babies. There were a few times I was able to connect to a few people and think they might've been similar, but I just seemed to have overestimated them and ended up being disappointed in the end. Many of the people who are rejecting socialization are the ones that got fucked over by other people, betrayal, humiliation, abused, etc with very little positive outcomes, and so they find it much easier and happier to simply be alone rather than risk any more pain.
