I worked once with this cool aspiring pastor, he was studying masters in catholic theology and worked at the store part-time to pay fees. Despite being agnostic, we talked about different aspects of faith and he even shared his Master's thesis with me, as I asked to read it when he published. He was just a good, well-meaning person.

my dad got scammed into giving nearly six figures to a ponzi scheme "tech company" that's supposedly in a field very close to mine. it was on its face entirely science fiction -- a hotel on mars tomorrow is more likely than their product will ever be -- and a straight up evil idea at that.
he told me about it (and tried to recruit me) a year after the person he heard about it from was charged with felony securities fraud and the entire operation was in hot water in multiple states, which you could have found by typing in the very unique name of the company.
