autistic people suffer more the issues of the cognitive part of empathy. They can get people can be sad, hurt, etc, but they struggle to pick up on the signs and clues, worse still they usually suffer really bad with frequency of what people mean, it's why they take rejection of any kind so bad is they can't comprehended why they are not front and center of others and if rejected it means in their mind the person must hate them rather than the more obvious realities such as the person might not have the time or be interested in what's being offered.
