God this shit is weird but my family encourages it too.

Back when I was 27, multiple family members tried to set me up with a then-12 year old friend of the family. She was really smart and mature for her age, and we would often talk at parties/family events (in a perfectly platonic, friendly way, started talking just because we were both the type who got dragged to events but preferred to sit around petting the cats and dogs rather than talk to anyone, and it was a way to pass the time) and we had similar interests. BUT, again, she was fucking 12. At first, I was hurt by the suggestions, thinking it was a joke and they were accusing me of pedophilia, but then it became clear that they were just serious about it and totally fine with it, which was really weird. Our family and friends aren't the sort of ultratrad types or weird extreme libertarian types who would be expected to be down with that either, mostly just pretty normal people except repeatedly insisting I date a child. Mostly I just try not to think about it because otherwise it would make it even more awkward around these people
