when I was 13 (early 2000s) all the girls in my class were dating college guys with cars, jobs, their own apartments etc.

later on in our senior year I remember there was a lot of drama surrounding the prom dance because all the girls wanted to bring their much older BFs along (who in some cases were almost 30) and school authorities couldnt allow them into the school grounds because some of the parents complained they did not feel safe with their underage children being around those 27-28 year old guys, and then the BFs retaliated by simply stating plainly that they would not allow their GFs to attend the prom dance without them because they did not want them dancing with other guys. this caused a TON of drama. through our senior year we wasted a ton of time holding "meetings" where teachers would talk to students and parents and try to reach a compromise. pretty much every other day we would waste an entire morning holding these meetings in the auditorium.

in the end the parents and older BFs reached a compromise, the older bfs would be allowed to attend, but the prom dance would only last 10 minutes (speech+photo slide etc) and would be strictly supervised, and then the girls would leave for their own privately organized prom dance. lol
