The only game I ever played where one could pick was Diablo III where I just picked whichever of both options I liked the look of more, Wizard was the only one that was close enough that I did both as in I picked the other sex when made my second wizard for some online party.

This is the genesis of this nonsense to begin with, people don't play "as" a character when they're playing video games, they control a character, this isn't D&D where you're literally acting out a character, and even there, when I did that in secondary with a party of 2 males and 4 females, like half of us played opposite sex at any given time and that wasn't a consistent thing either, just whatever we felt like at the moment. People read far too much into this shit.
