I'd probably ask your sister/brother about it. Say something like "Did I offend [niece] or did something go wrong on the outing? She wouldn't speak to me during our time together, and sent me a message after saying it was just a one-off thing. I wasn't sure if there is something I should apologize for."

And it will either result in them apologizing for the nieces behavior, and hopefully correcting her behavior so she doesn't keep acting like a total dick and grow up to be worse; or you'll see it's the fault of the parents that the kid acts like a dick. I was raised as a kid to never look at my phone when I'm with company, unless they are doing the same, as it's rude. It's not a hard thing to teach your kids to do if you actually raised them to have empathy

Regardless, you should 100% not blame yourself. It's either poor parenting or a teenager who was embarrassed to be seen at the mall with someone older. Not sure if you ever felt like this, but I was embarrassed going to the mall with my mom or relatives, as what if someone my age saw me; which is ridiculous in hindsight.

I'm sorry you feel that way anon, and I hope you are able to get therapy. It's not good for you to be faced with a rejection and the first thought is to hurt yourself. Therapy can help you build up some self worth/confidence in yourself. So when this stuff happens again, you don't think "She acted like a dick because it's my fault and nobody loves me", but rather "I think she acted like a dick and it was rude. But that has no reflection on me as a person, but rather her."

Best way to resolve it is going through the parents in a non-confrontive way. Either fixes the misunderstanding on why the teenager was rude, has the teenager learn to not act like such an asshole, or makes OP realize that they aren't really good parents. Do I think if the parents correct the teenager, that the teenager will be mad? Yes. But like, clearly the teenager wasn't going to spend time with OP anymore anyways. It's the best way to help the situation

So the way social connection works, the way you make connections, to not end up like a painfully alone dickhead, is you are respectful to people. You have manners, this helps you make and keep connections with others. So a regular kid, who was raised well, their aunt may ask them to go to the mall. As a kid, they may think "I don't really want to hang out with my aunt.. Sounds boring." but they won't act like that to their aunt. Their aunt is trying to be apart of her life, even spend money on her; this is someone who is going out of their way to try to make a connection with me. I should at least give the bare minimum level of manners in return.
Why is it rude to not do this? It's not rude to reject someone trying to build a connection with you, don't get me wrong; it would not be wrong of the kid to turn down the aunt from the get go and say that they didn't want to go to the mall. But lets say the parent said they must go out with the Aunt; then the kid has beef with the parents, not with the Aunt, and shouldn't take it out on the aunt. It's not the Aunt's fault the parents forced the niece to go with the parents. Since this is a seemingly one time occurrence, then yeah, the niece owes the Aunt the bare level amount of manners.

So like yeah, if the kid is showing signs of anti-social traits (Which you have) it's VERY important to teach them differently. Unless you think it would be ideal for anyone to turn out like you

If a relative took me somewhere I would be expected to be thankful, sometimes we'd go there to help with the garden or whatever and we were happy to help because they gave us birthday presents
We didn't go out with relatives much so the couple of times we did we enjoyed doing something a bit different (places like a national park or the beach)
But also we did have relatives that we basically never see and only came around when they wanted something or on their own terms so I wouldn't have liked going anywhere with them
