Someone explains this to me please
I work in a small office, with my coworkers being mostly female, i've noticed that sometimes women just "complain outloud" for some reason, like one day it was just me and a girl in the office and she just randomly said "uggh, my head hurts", in other instances they complain about being cold or sleepy, etc. My question is, why do they do it? When i'm hurt or something i just complain inside my head. Is this a way for them to start a conversation? I tend to not speak unless someone directly asks me something so when they complain about something i just remain in silence but it's all very puzzling to me.

When I was a kid and felt too tired to be socially engaging, I would feel insecure about it and verbalize how sleepy I was. They're addressing a perceived awkwardness that maybe isn't even there. just be there to reflect their bs and they'll think you're a good listener

the thing is that they do it when they aren't in a conversation, we are in our sits typing away looking at our monitors and suddenly one of them complains about something

My female coworkers keep changing the temperature of the air condition, it's annoying.

we like to verbalize our complaints as a way of processing or to seek minor comforts.
'my head hurts' getting the acknowledgement, 'that sucks, im sorry' provides a small validation to how we're feeling and an amount of empathy, even if it's a pretty compulsory response.
it's like how when women vent about problems, they're not necessarily looking for a fix, they just want someone to listen and validate their emotions and empathize with them, which some men can find awkward or silly/unnecessary

that makes sense, my question then would be why women seek those minor instances of comfort, even from people who aren't really significant, but i suppose that's a different topic.

I'm wondering now if i should reply or not the next time it happens

if you have good rapport with the woman in question, the response would likely be appreciated and seen as a warm gesture. if it's someone you don't have a great relationship with, it might be seen as a little forced or facetious.
as to why women do it, i think it's just part of the social pack bonding thing that women are more prone to. casual reassurance from peers is an important part of knowing the that you're an accepted part of a social group and gives a sense of security on a primal level

That's just a normalfag thing they do it when they want to make conversation or kill time. People do it all the time to me in the grocery store line or events where there is idle time. They genuinely see it as fun like irl omegle
